Articles and discussion about the planet Uranus.
Uranus is the seventh planet orbiting the Sun.
It is a gas giant, characterised by a very cold climate, a ring system, and an axis of rotation that is oddly perpendicular to the ecliptic.

Today is the anniversary Titania and Oberon were found, so which one do you think is the most interesting?
Moons that are named after characters of Shakespearean works should be referred to as “Shakespeare group,” and Pope’s referred to as “Pope group.” What do you think?
I googled it and was surprised to see that it "does not have a true surface" and the planet is just a mix of swirling fluids...what does this actually mean? Is the whole thing just one giant ocean like Millers Planet?
In his fabulous book, The Twelve Houses, Howard Sasportas writes of the Greek God Uranus: "The first sky-god, he ruled the limitless expanse of space and had the job of inventing and designing Nature. He accomplished such creative feats as fashioning the wings of butterflies, each one stamped with its own uniqueness and individuality."
I can't tell if the second sentence is meant to be just an extension of the idea that Uranus is credited with designing Nature (that by extension, this includes butterflies as a great example), OR if there is a specific mythological relationship between Uranus/Ouranos and butterflies.
So far, I can't find anything to support the latter. I see that several species of butterfly have Uranus in the name, but I imagine that must be true of most ancient deities?
