Since we all agree the Big East needs to expand to keep up with the next generation of college athletics, I propose the ultimate Big East breakaway league. This is the best idea out there. Major expansion, quadruple round robin, no more bullying by the high major conferences picking on us mid majors.
A few assumptions:
1.) this is a breakaway from the NCAA so we can really thrive
2.) ACC folds and some select schools need a landing spot
3.) double round robin (which nobody likes anyway) is replaced by quadruple round robin in division
4.) Ed Cooley is banned for life
Here are the proposed divisions:
Cathedral Division
Prop Up Division
Big Midwest Division
Too Close Proximity Division / A10 Little Brother Division
Chicago’s Team Division
We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together Division
Men’s Basketball Only Division
MSG When It’s Available Division
Somebody send the link to Fanta so he can get Val on the phone. Let’s do this thing.
Casual nonsense post for a Wednesday, but hear me out quickly.. I know this will sound a bit crazy but in the wake of all the conference realignment I had this thought that the Big East should fully lean into continuing being a basketball conference (especially since the NIT and NCAA tournament Champs currently reside in the Big East).
The conference currently holds 11 teams and is respected as a tough basketball conference to play in. Since football is not and most likely will not be the focus of this conference again, I think expanding the footprint of Big East basketball would be great for the brand. Expanding to a 14 team league might make some sense, especially targeting basketball-focused schools.
My thought is to reach out to Richmond, VCU and Dayton and add them as the 3 new members to the conference. Dayton and Richmond have FCS football programs and would bring a decent amount of basketball talent to the Big East. I think this would help the Big East expand its popularity in other markets they currently no longer hold a ton ofviewership in (Ohio & Virginia) and I think this would ultimately be a benefit to the league and its current member teams.
Just some word vomit. Anyone else onboard??
-Hurley, when asked about the KY job.
NIT CHAMPS: SETON HALL
NCAA TOURNAMENT CHAMPS: UCONN
LOOKS LIKE A SWEEP TO ME!
GO BE
Of course they WOULDN’T give the award to Danny Hurley. That’s okay, just more motivation.
LETS FUCKING GO PIRATES
Go Pirates!!!
Who watching the Indiana State/Seton Hall NIT championship game. I will because I like to say “We’re number 69&70!”
I hope you crush it in the semifinals.
Not a good day for the big East… Now we gotta root for the huskies B2B BE dreams still alive😭
…is going to lose to NC State.
It was obviously very frustrating seeing us miss a tournament I feel we defeintelt earned but past is the last and always another season.
SH hasn’t been anything crazy but we have seen great moments like BE championship in 2016, 5 tournament appearances in 6 years and overall hasn’t been totally crap like Depaul.
Still you just worry it can be like pre 2016 again and I feel even if Holloway is a great coach for me and has potential, even he can’t fix this team going forward with NIL or just never being consistent enough to be like a Marquette, Xavier, or Creighton.
I think it’s obviously hard to bet we can be an elite program or even like Gonzaga , but I do feel we can be a much more respectable program that can be a consistent tourney team.
I also feel we can be the team in NJ though I think Rutgers might have an edge, but I do feel we can and already have a good base. If we just have that one run with Holloway and develop consistency we can be like a poor man’s Zaga.
Of course this all comes down to having the right pieces and the big question with investment. From what I’ve been hearing, Holloway might be rumored to leave so all our hopes might be a wash and looks like school isn’t investing enough on the Nil?
I really hope we can try to keep SH competitive in the BE because it wouldn’t just be good for us, but for the BE, NJ basketball, and CB as a whole. NJ has been and has had a growing basketball culture. I believe SH can be that program.
What in the actual hell is up with y’all’s all-big east team? There’s literally 6 guards. I’m a Tennessee fan and I was looking at Kalkbrenner’s Wikipedia, and saw 2nd team all-Big East, and I was wondering how in the world he was not the best Center in the big east when he’s probably a top 5 Center in the country and the other 4 are in the ACC, Big Ten, and Big 12. And then I saw, there are SIX GUARDS. Couldn’t even give the 6th spot to a forward. Like how is there not a single forward on the entire first team. It doesn’t seem fair. The guards are gonna be the “stars” 90% of the time. They handle the ball, do the majority of the shooting and a lot of the scoring, etc. I know y’all don’t have football as a conference😂, but it’s like putting 5 Wide Receivers instead of Lineman cus they had more yards. Or probably more accurately, putting a WR in the TE spot. So instead of Travis Kelce being 1st team all-NFL, he’s 2nd team while the first team spot goes to Tyreek Hill. It makes no sense.
This has to be top 3 games of the tourney let’s go jays 🐐
Holy shit, the SEC is like 3/8 and the MEC is 2/6. WE ARE 3/3. This is sum BS
I see where former Husky Gafney is still with FAU. UConn fans know that Gafney was in the same class as James Bouknight who is in his 3rd year with Charlotte.
If you're like me and hate how hard it is to see the results of your picks in the brackets on ESPN, I made a small CSS tweak to make it better. This works on Firefox desktop. I haven't tested it on Chrome or mobile.

After - https://i.imgur.com/MFOGPxl.png

Create a new style, copy the code below into the box, and set the site to fantasy.espn.com
Save. The end result should look like this - https://i.imgur.com/3vMpbVL.png
Code:
/* Apply green/red bars on the bracket to make it easier to see your pick results */
.BracketProposition-header {
background: black;
padding: 6.5px 5px;}
.BracketProposition-header:has(.PickIncorrect-crossMark) {

.BracketProposition-header:has(.PickCorrect-checkMark) {

.css-mtr1p6 .BracketPropositionHeaderDesktop-label .BracketPropositionHeaderDesktop-pickText,
.css-mtr1p6 .BracketPropositionHeaderDesktop-label {

/* Filter champion logos to be faded even more */
.css-1ppih1h .ChampionshipPick-icon--greyedOut {
filter: grayscale(98%) opacity(30%);

… picked Kentucky to win it all
So Providence Nova and Xavier all went out first round of NIT. PC and Nova were the higher seeds. Maybe they didn't all deserve to make the tourney after all. And I'm saying this as a lifelong PC guy
