Pretty much the title of this post. Was it bound to happen no matter the results of the tournament or do you think the loss to Oakland was the final straw? I don’t follow Kentucky closely so I don’t know the ins and outs and bts of the program.
What happens when a team has 1-2 scholarship spots still open on the roster after the portal closes? Do they hold tryouts for walk ons or what do they typically do?
I played Juco ball and have seen some incredible REC players. I even have played with mid major D1 players and some rec dudes have destroyed them. We had a full court game and a rec player scores 30 pts and the D1 player had about 12. The D1 player was about 6ft and pretty slow. He was a bench player at a D1 and played in the WAC conference. He was also a freshman. The Rec player was 6ft4 with a 40 inch vert and was in and out of juvenile hall his whole childhood. He was around 27 and never played organized basketball besides being in a men’s league for 2 years.
These rec players were usually 6’1-6’4 athletic and in their mid to late 20s. Most could dunk and were freak athletes and played ball for years. Most had bad grades growing up or didn’t play rec ball much.
I always kind of wondered this. Especially at bigger programs like Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, UNC, etc. I'm not sure if anyone here personally knows some of these current or former players, but if you do, what is their experience like? Are they pretty much able to live their lives off the court in peace and quiet, or are people hassling them for photos and autographs?
