After March Madness was cancelled, an effort began to launch a virtual version through Reddit. It birthed Reddit March Madness, and last night, Seton Hall topped Baylor, 102-92 in OT, in the Elite Eight to get back to the Final Four for the second time ever!
If you want to celebrate this ridiculous and miraculous occasion that is getting people through this tough time, we've made some original shirts to commemorate, with proceeds also being split with the tournament's director and helping those in the basketball community affected by COVID-19. We've already partnered with the Give and Go Foundation, but if you know a worthy group that could use some extra funds, please let us know.
Also, considering Seton Hall has a real shot at its first championship right now, so we should probably count it as the real thing.
Impressions from being at the game:
Great showings from of course Powell, great play from Rhoden, and a flurry of blocks from Gill and Ike. Mamu opened the game with two straight 3s and a lot of hype. TT looked more serviceable than he did at the end of the season, although his passing had a little too much mustard on it. Ike started, but there’s surprising credibility to the thoughts going around that Gill’s experience will make him more valuable on the court until Ike gets some more game time under his belt. Overall, the team didn’t have the best night ever offensively, but defense looked very tight. Lots of good quick switching, lots of poking the ball out of dribbles, lots of passing lane steals, and of course an incredible number of blocks overall. Very quick footed on D and really hoping to see that persist into the start of the season. Cons of the night were a surprising number of blown dunks and layups from both the twin towers as well as the guards. The twin towers look like they’re afraid to hurt someone when driving or receiving the ball in the post, and as much as I hate to say it Willard is going to have to train that “gentle giant” tendency out of them and get them dunking on peoples heads. I have to imagine those kind of easy shots not falling is a bad break for the night and not a season trend, but it’ll be interesting to see what the scoring spread looks like when those are going in.
Let’s go pirates!
