On another note, I am a Sooner fan and miss my Big 12 bros :(
Recorded before the OSU game, but still feels relevant.
ESPN is so self masturbatory when it comes to SEC and B1G football. "Everyone" agrees that they are the best. Then we get a season like this, and they can't stray from their script. They start saying the exact things they were saying about The 12 they were saying a few years ago. They seem so slow to give credit where the evolution of football spawns. As Big 12 fans we are aware of these tropes, no defense, wide open league, etc.
Yet, with basketball, they admit The 12 is clearly the most dominant.
How much of this is driven by ESPN as they have financial gain at stake. How much is other media influencing it?
Polls are polls, yes. But there are two unblemished teams getting disrespect. If the schedule falls a particular way, there could potentially be three 1 loss Big 12 teams. Why would a 1 loss Iowa State miss the playoffs this year? BYU has a top 5 strength of RECORD, yet SEC and B1G teams with SoR outside of top 10 are ranked above. K-State could have their only loss be BYU with a revenge win in the championship. Three one loss teams. Only one or two making it in would be a shame.
Rant over. At least we can all agree that the only thing worse than Big 12 officiating is the media coverage of the conference.
Edit: i stated BYU strength of schedule in top 5, their strength of record is top 5, (#4 for the record, ISU is #6). Alabama and Texas are 13 and 14, respectively.
Anyone excited for this? Any exciting players or coaches?
Winner of West Virginia - Arizona gets to beat the piñata and enjoy the treats inside.
ISU moves up to #8. Texas drops to #5 and the current #2-#5 teams all bump up 1 apiece.
Miami stays at #6, LSU #7, ISU #8, Tennessee to #9 and Clemson #10.
Hedge bet: Tennessee to #8, ISU stays at #9 and the rest is accurate
Edit: welp.
