Hey folks, have you seen any products similar to this:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1340586-REG/marantz_professional_turret_broadcast_video_streaming.html
--but with the option to connect external mics, and with a higher quality camera?
Hi all,
I was wondering on how you reboot a Crestron DM Scaler? Do you just pull the power and plug it back in or is it something else entirely?
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.
Hey guys, looking to crowd-source some product recommendations - do you guys have a specific speaker impedance tester that you like? Doing some bid-spec work, and I need to take readings at different frequencies, and specifically with an AC impedance measurement device, so my multi-meter doesn't count. Something like this, just hoping for specific product recommendations. Ideally not too expensive as this will be part of my personal kit, not bought with a company CC.
Has anyone switched from Zoom for conferencing to MSFT Teams? We use Zoom for VC and Teams for chat, but there is talk of consolidating to one platform. So we would have to convert all our Zoom Rooms to Teams Rooms. Has anyone gone through that switchover before? What were the major roadblocks or benefits to the switch?
Hi, I work for a school district and have been trying to get a setup working with 2 projectors and haven't had much luck. Our conference room has 2 projectors that shoot onto opposite walls. Right now we have this HDMI splitter that splits the HDMI between the projector and runs one long HDMI through the ceiling and out a wall plate that can then be connected to a laptop to present powerpoints, videos, etc.
The video works fairly well. Sometimes it shows a screen full of static and you just have to disconnect and reconnect to get it to work. I'm sure a better quality HDMI cable would probably take care of that. It's about 60-70 feet from the projectors to the connection point so if someone has a suggestion on what type of HDMI cable to get for that length of run that would be great.
The main problem is the audio though. It's very hit and miss but I can usually get it to work if I mess with it for a while. The splitter seems to be the problem because if I connect just one projector it seems to work every time without a problem. Is there a better solution than a splitter like that? Even if it costs more we just want something that is reliable and someone can just come in, plug in the HDMI and not have to worry about troubleshooting to get video or sound working correctly.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
So I’m looking for a double gang pass through plate. Currently the one we use has the same size grommet as the single plate size. So I’m looking for one that would allow more room for wires to pass through from inside a wall. here is what the double gang we currently use. Which doesn’t work 9times out of 10. What does everyone else use or ideas you have?
Hi All, i've got a client who is in love wit the surface hubs, and apparently all the C-suite want them in their offices to replace older tvs. normally i wouldn't think this a problem except that i'm seeing mixed information on hdcp compliance on the hdmi port. The c suite wants these but also doesn't want to give up cable tv.
Does anyone have a definitive answer on hdcp compatibility with the surface hub2s. Or alternatively has anyone run into this and solved it in some way shape or form? I'm trying to avoid a splitter that strips the hdcp, i'd rather tell the client it simply won't work.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a small single outlet relay controlled power pass through? I want something I can stick between the 120v AV cable and the power outlet. Preferably under 2" and roughly the size of the plug itself.
I took over this unmoderated subreddit a few years back and ya'll have been incredible, growing us to over 3000 members, helping each other out, and generally just being good to each other. Members of the community have helped with career and training efforts, helped keep each other honest, and helped us all grow.
But there's always been this weird two-subreddit system that just didn't make sense. After speaking with the mods over at /r/CommercialAV, I've been added as a mod and we're going to go ahead and move operations under one roof (theirs has the bigger footprint, so away we go). I'll still be a mod, we'll still put up career threads, training information, and other special posts. I'll still be super active as a mod and poster. And we'll keep the subreddit squeaky clean of spam and other garbage.
This subreddit will continue to accept posts for another week or so, but at some point it will not and there will be a permanent post directing you over to /r/CommercialAV. We'll keep all of the historic posts so you can still do a search to find answers to questions (you won't, I know, it's okay).
With that, please head over to /r/CommercialAV, hit JOIN, and let's keep our momentum!!!
Be safe and see you on the other side!
Hello All, I’m wondering if anybody has any suggestions or can brainstorm with me for a idea I have.
I want to put up a projector outdoor with content and need a way to broadcast the audio with minimal Latency.
I do have a commercial FM transmitter(the way we do drive-ins) but issue is people watching this feed in a building most likely don’t have a FM receiver.
Anybody run into a situation like this or have any suggestions on how I can achieve this with an app out there?
All you help is appreciated, Thank you!
I was searching for a nice software/SaaS to create interactive videos (Branching, hotspots, custom player etc) and noticed HapYak, Vidzor, Adventr and Interactr all went silent since 2018. Do you guys know why?
Any alternative to Wirewax?
I'm working with a museum who's looking to implement a wearable voice amplification system that will help them facilitate content in a noisy atrium to school groups.
The suggestions the client had researched and sent my way all look like pretty cheap unknown brands with dubious build quality and even more questionable technical specifications.
Unfortunately, I don't have experience with any kind of wearables outside of Shure headsets for theatrical performance and their main motivation is to have a mobile loudspeaker in conjunction with the headset.
Does anyone have any experience with wearable products like an all-in-one headset/amplifier/loudspeaker? I have a hard time recommending anything like the products reviewed in this link as I don't think they'll have enough power for the space and there are too many negative reviews on Amazon to believe their build quality.
Thanks for your time!
Hey all,
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience mixing these two systems; they are both G3 series from Sennheiser, they just have slightly different numbers.
I currently own an EW 100 G3 Receiver (https://en-us.sennheiser.com/wireless-clip-on-lavalier-microphone-set-presentation-ew-100-eng-g3)
I'm possibly purchasing a SK 300 G3 Wireless Lavalier bodypack (https://en-us.sennheiser.com/bodypack-transmitter-wireless-microphone-sk-300-g3)
I notice there is some frequency overlap between the two units - I'm not super savvy on the technical side, but it seems to me like the two ought to be able to speak to each other. Am I correct in that assumption?
I've also sent an email to Sennheiser asking them, but thought someone here may have experienced this before.
Here's what we understand right now for US workers and small businesses: the CARES Act passed last week and was signed into law. In addition to providing several trillion in loans to businesses, it had a lot of provisions for small business and 1099/gig workers.
Unemployment
1099 and gig workers are authorized to seek unemployment insurance as well as receive $600 on top of what the state allows. Getting reports of some states doing $600 plus full amount, plus half amount, or just $600. Also seeing some states not yet processing it due to just not being ready. In any case, go here: https://www.careeronestop.org/LocalHelp/UnemploymentBenefits/Find-Unemployment-Benefits.aspx?newsearch=true find your state, and get your claim started. Even if you have a reduction in hours or work, reduced to a zero hour employee, or do on and off gig work, just apply and they'll help you figure it out.
UPDATE:
Small Business
This is where things get fun if you happen to own a small business (which a lot of us here do). There are two parts to this: SBA disaster assistance and payroll assistance.
Disaster Assistance
You can get a grant of UP TO $10,000 to cover operational costs like rent, utilities, inventory, etc. Beyond that, they can give up to $2M in low interest (under 4%, but someone correct me on that) loans to cover additional expenses. The first $10k is a free, the rest a loan. Apply here: https://www.sba.gov/page/disaster-loan-applications
Good /r/smallbusiness post about not getting the full grant amount and how to appeal: https://www.reddit.com/r/smallbusiness/comments/fteh73/in_anticipation_of_the_upto_10000_grants_not/
Payroll Assistance
A small business with fewer than 500 employees that was in business on or before February 15, 2020 can apply for up to $10 million dollars to cover payroll costs and retain employees. The amount you qualify for is based on 2.5 times your average monthly payroll costs. Your monthly average payroll is calculated based on your prior 12 months of payroll costs. You take that average monthly payroll number and multiply it by 2.5. For example, if your monthly average payroll was $20,000, then you would qualify for a $50,000 PPP Loan. Some of this will be forgiven. Good article at https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/348552 on the topic
This loan is A HALF PERCENT EDIT: Got raised to 1%, but still a good interest rate. It's basically free, plus a lot will be forgiven. DO THIS IF YOU OWN A BUSINESS so you can keep paying your employees.
Apply here: https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/loans/paycheck-protection-program-ppp
If you have more detailed info, comment, I'll add it up here. If there any state-specific info, comment here as well. Got info on what your country is doing? Yeah, comment it. Good luck out there!!

From a career perspective, we're already seeing plans by large customers to expand their AV departments, focusing on better UCC and more technology deployments. Zoom and Webex have EXPLODED. When we come out of this, there is going to be a ton of work to do. Right now, make sure you understand the technology and what's necessary to support it. This is going to position you well for diving back in later this year.

I work in an A/V department in a University that is currently shut down because of the pandemic. We have a few first-year student employees who we are allowed to give remote work to but are totally new to this world. I'd like to assign them some "professional development" work so that they can come back ready to contribute in the Fall. Are there any good online resources? I'm talking very very basic stuff (types of cable / connectors, audio fundamentals, resolution vs. aspect ratio, etc.).
This may sound dumb, but I’m taking extron training courses for the Av associate certification.
I’ve downloaded global configurator plus, and am watching how to tutorials from the extron site. Obviously I don’t have an MLC plus 200 in front of me. As an install tech I don’t really have opportunity to play around with this stuff, especially with my new company since we don’t even have a shop and office where I’m at.
This is common dilemma as a tech who’s training is pretty much online courses. How’d I follow along and get most out of training videos without hardware or equipment?
Any input would be very much appreciated!
I have a new 8U Gator Rack. I finally have enough 1U, 2U gear to fill one up. I've built up lots of racks before, but not for a long time.
However, basically, nothing fits in the Gator Rack, and I just worked out why - the rack mounting holes in the rack are unevenly spaced. Some of them are 12mm apart, and others are 16mm apart.
Is this normal? Why has the world changed so much?
R.
Hi guys! I'm looking into sourcing a new sound system setup for a theater I work in. The theater is in a museum and it seats about 150 people. We'll be screening films and having panelist discussions. I'm still learning so any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
