port tuning for kick bin?

hi guys!

I'm building a mini rig mainly for home use and small garden parties.

I'm trying to design a 10" reflex kick bin and was wondering what proper port tuning would be.

they will be crossed from 85hz to 200hz, so do I tune the port to 85hz or..?

also if internal volume of the box is slightly bigger than calculated volume from Thiele/Small parameters, is that going to have any negative effects?

thanks for your advise!

Best powered speakers for home dj setup

I’m looking to buy new powered speakers but can’t decide between the Pioneer DJ S-DJ80X or
Mackie CR8-XBT 8". Can anyone help me decide which is the better option as I’m going for good bass and volume.

Portable Power generator for qsc speaker

I don’t know much about watt usage but I’ve been searching very hard to find a cheap portable power generator to use for my qsc k12 speaker so I can play music out in the woods. I’ve been looking at the jackery power generator for $499, but I don’t think it will be strong enough to power the speaker, does anybody know of any power generators that will work please? Or cheap power generator rentals that will work?

Wiring Loom

Does anyone else make wiring harnesses for their stacks? Sure it decreases modularity, but it sure looks clean.. these ones are wrapped in electrical tape with PET braided sleeving and shrink tubing.

Can anyone school me on how powering a larger scale sound system works?

Basically, title. I keep wanting to take the plunge into building my own system using various subwoofer/mids/tops plans and in theory, I understand how hooking up the boxes to the amps work. I vaguely understand how ohms and wattage works but I’m stumped on how power works for systems that use larger amps and multiple amps on a single array of power.

I see a lot of setups that use power distribution systems but I’ve not been able to find any decent videos or articles that explain how that part of the setup works. Things like, what connections are the amps using to the power distro? How is the power distro setup beforehand? Things like that.

If anyone has videos they’d recommend or articles that go over that aspect, I’d appreciate it.

MAPPXT Windows installer

Hey! Im looking for someone that can provide me a link for MAPPXT for windows. Im currently learning diferent configurations of sound systems and I would really apreciate being able to use MAPPXT instead of MAPP3D simply because its way easier to operate.

Thank you!

Best box design for sub bass and kick drums

Sorry, I posted this earlier but wrote a sloppy post and the app won’t let me edit the title. I’m finally coming to the conclusion that I need to build my own sound system. Just wondering what you guys would recommend when it comes the the best box design for sub bass and the best box design for kick drums. Would eventually be a 4 way system for indoor club use. Have spent a while using j bins and front loaded boxes. Building specifically for drum ‘n’ bass and sub driven 140bpm. Thankyou.

Currently building a rig and looking for common mistakes...

Hey fellow noisemakers,

I'm currently putting the plans together to build a rig with a friend of mine.

We're looking at building a decent one for now that we can then add more to in the future [4x subs, 4x full range, 2x tweeters].

I'll be honest, the more I look into it, the more my brain goes ←↑↓→ all over the place with different ideas and directions we could take building a rig.

So I thought I'd ask the community for any advice, words of warning or common mistakes people make when building a rig for the first time :)

Thanks for reading through either way

:)

Just wanted to make an edit to say thanks to everyone leaving comments with advice 💙

Boring I know…advice on building 40hz - 250hz boxes.

Apologies, boring for you gear heads. Have used j bins and front loaded boxes in the past. Wanting to build the best boxes possible for this frequency range. Sub bass below kick drum. For drum n bass. Appreciate any recommendations. Thankyou.

Crossover Frequency for unknown plan sub

Hello guys, I got two of these 2x18’’ subwoofers, but I don’t know their frequency response since I don’t know which is the plan. I have some Eighteen Sound 18LW2400 to load them. I am going to use them in a 2-way sound system and I would like to get some kick from them if possible.

Is anyone able to guess a suitable crossover frequency for this type of sub?

Thank you!

Received a dented Electro-Voice sub

I got the Electro-voice ekx18sp 1300watt powered sub and it came with the grill a little dented on the corner. the total was $1500 and the seller offered to give me a partial refund to let me keep it as is. Do yall recommend I keep it for the partial refund? If so, how much do yall think that refund should be realistically for me to even consider keeping it? Or should I try returning this thing? Its like 90 pounds but they would pay for the label. I would just have to figure out how to box it properly which might be a hassle.

I used it for an outdoor gig and it performed pretty well (I actually don't have a reference as to how well an 18 inch sub should do outdoors). Just not sure if that small dent would create problems eventually. Maybe they dropped it at some point?

How do you refill your generator without stopping the music?

Hi everyone,

I am planning a 12 hour rave for 100 people and am confused on how to safely refill my 4000 watt generator. All of the online resources say to shut the generator off before refueling but I was hoping this sub had some input on how to do this without shutting the power and therefore the music off to do so?

Thanks!

Subwoofer driver transition possible?

Hey everyone :)

I’m in a bit of a bind with my old EV MTL-1 subs—they’re slowly dying on me, and I don’t want to replace the drivers with the fragile original EV DL18MT ones. One of my drivers just gave up out of nowhere this week, so now I’m considering some options.

The plan I’m leaning toward is replacing the drivers in one of the enclosures with a pair of B&C 18NW100s. I chose these because, from what I can tell, they have the closest TS parameters to the originals in the areas that matter. I'll test them out in one enclosure first, and if it works well, I'll swap the other two drivers in my second sub.

Longer term, my goal is to build a better enclosure optimized for the B&C 18NW100s. Does anyone here have solid enclosure design recommendations for these drivers? Also, does this plan sound reasonable or am I missing something that could bite me later? Appreciate any insights! My goal would also to have a sub that goes more into sub frequencies than the EV.

I have also the same problem with 2x Meyer 650 and was thinking about making a transition with b&c 18tbx100. So I have the same question with those driver :)

:)

What Amp to drive MTH-30

Heyo lads, I'm budgeting for a sub section, and I ended up figuring out that the MTH-30 scales perfectly with our indoor/limited size needs.

We will build 2 MTH-30 with the pd.123C001 But it's planned to upgrade to 4.

It's an 8 ohm 600W RMS driver.

I'm already owning a T.racks mini DSP for cuttoffs/EQ and I have a mesure mic.

What amp do you recommand for 2 or even 4 MTH-30 ?

Should I use a dedicated limiter for it ?

Thanks you for your answers :)

Multiple Entry Horns

Lately I got really fascinated by Multiple Entry Horns (MEH, Unity horns, Synergy horns, etc). I didn’t hear one for now but I’ve read enough very good things about this kind of speaker. And now I wanna build a pair for my (mostly) outdoor Soundsystem. I already asked for some help/ideas for top speakers and someone recommended me the SyntripP build. Now I wanna know, are there more multiple entry Horns out there, which I can build by my own? I know that these Speakers are a challenging build but I think I can do it. The guy who recommended the SyntripP build said I can calculate with 2000€ for a pair. Which is a lot of money that I don’t really have for now. Does somebody know a build that can be cheaper? Or more easy to built? I already looked through some other Horns and saw that many multiple entry horns are working with 5-7 Drivers/speaker. That’s maybe too much for my budget so I’m not sure if there is another build similar to the SyntripP with 3 Drivers/speaker. If somebody got some tips/ideas or design/plans. Fell free to share it with me and the community :)

DIY 'Portable' 12" Sub

Hello,

I want to make a subwoofer that works battery-powered and contains a 12" driver. Sadly, I'm a complete noob at sound things and wanted to ask If i should build a Horn subwoofer or If i rather should make a Bass-Reflex Subwoofer. It is 90% of the time used Indoor but i also want to be able to use it outdoors.

I apologize for my english :)

Thank you!
