RULES/GUIDELINES
How to ask good questions: http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
2. Find and Read the product manual before posting - A lot of answers can be found in the product manual. Seriously, that's what I do when someone posts a question, I first go to the manual, and most of the time, the answer is there.
3. Post Formatting Matters - No one likes to read through a wall of text, you can easily add paragraph breaks by adding double line breaks.
4. Put effort into your Titles - Vague post titles such as "Help", or "Please Help", or "Question" will be a sure way that no one will want to help you. Use a succinct, clear, and helpful title when creating your posts.
5. Try Google First - Before you post, you should try typing your question into google.
6. No piracy or distribution of copyrighted content - No piracy or distribution of copyrighted content. Violation of this rule may lead to permanent ban with no warning.
7. No offering money or services in exchange for help - We are here to help. Do not try to incentivise getting help by offering to pay or exchange goods or services for help.
8. No promotion or self promotion - Posts should be made to inform or facilitate discussion. Any posts with the intent to self-promote, enter contests or sweepstakes, sell products or services, or are appeals for money / funding will most likely be removed. If you feel an exception should be made, please message the moderation team.
9. There may be a better subreddit for your post - For example, if you have a question about car audio, try posting in r/carav.
10. No solicitation of services - If you are looking for someone to do some work for you, or if you yourself are looking for work, there are other subreddits in which you could post.
11. No Legal Advice - We are not a Legal Advice Subreddit. DO NOT post asking for assistance cleaning up audio for any legal matter which may be used in a court of Law. Specifically, for audio to be used in a legal matter, (depending on the state) it MUST remain unaltered. Consult your locality/attorney for best advice for your situation. Don't let some rando on reddit complicate your situation.
12. No Click-bait, "snake-oil", or unverified/unsubstantiated theories - Posting “snake-oil” products or theories will be removed. Also, Clickbait and Clickbait formatted titles.
13. Don't be a dick - If someone posts something you don’t agree with, don’t belittle, start a discussion. If you have nothing nice to say, move on, don’t say it. Follow the rules of Reddit, and observe reddiquette. Remember, on the other side of the computer is a person. Failing to adhere to this rule may result in a mute or temp ban.

Phones, computers, etc. all seem to use M4A in those goofy voice recording apps (Windows Voice Recorder and Samsung Voice Recorder being the two I know of currently).
Is there any particular reason these recorders decided to use a format that isn't even possible to open in Audacity with extra FFMpeg encoding extensions? I'm surprised the audio isn't done in MP3 with an adjustable bit rate setting since MP3 is compatible with (in all practical senses) everything.
And yes I looked it up and couldn't find any information that was useful. Does anyone know what dictated this choice for most voice recording utilities?
Honestly just really stumped why this would be practical in the first place apart from the obvious that M4A is technically lossless and is.... I heard: more efficient or something? Even though it's not as compatible as other formats 🤔🤨 (MP3 at 128 kbps still has an accurate sampling rate of what, at least 32000 hertz?)
I'm brand new about these stuff and don't really know where should I go for answers, anyway, I'm currently have a Fiio k5 pro for both my pc and ps5 (via usb and rca), recently I just got two studio monitors so I'm looking for any solution that I'll be able to adjust the volume separately for my headphone and monitors. I wonder if I can use the headphone or rca output from my Fiio and connect to the line inputs to an audio interface ( for example like scarlet solo) and use that as an output to my headphone and monitors. Or that line in jack is only for instruments and mics etc.? Thank you so much and plz excuse me if I post in a wrong place:/
I have Mackie CR3 Monitors, they go to my headphone jack in my computer's sound card.[Aux L R to 3.5mm cable to headphone jack[(green)] When I increase my pc volume and have monitor volume simultaneously it sounds really reverby and distorted. So I have to keep my computer on low volume like 10 and turn the speakers up all of the way .What is this called? Are they not in sync or is it my settings? When I plug in head phones to the monitor it's not that loud
I recently bought a new blue bird microphone and a scarlet focusrite solo 4th gen) it worked well for the first week but then started to crackle and pop. I downloaded latest drivers, changed the cables, set my buffer size to 1024 and 512, sample rate to 41000, my computer has nothing on it except my daw, and it crackles even when I’m not even using it. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong
Hi All,
I'm currently trying to remove White Noise from .wav files on M series MacBook. iMovie does not accept .wav files
Are there are other pre installed apps aside from Audacity?
Sorry if the title was mediocre or vague. I am working on an acedemic project that is meant to emulate the look and style of an 80's/90's children's cartoon, complete with fake VHS distortion filters. As someone with not much experiance in editing non-musical audio, I have been trying to look for tutorials online on how to do so, but I've had no luck. If possible, could anyone tell me how I can distort my audio so that it sounds like it's from a well worn VHS tape? If it helps, the program I use is Audacity. Thanks
So, with Christmas coming, I have myself an opportunity to get some headphones, I’ve fell in love with different audio settings and formats in college and AirPods aren’t really doing much for me anymore,
I had my eyes on a set, “Marshall Major V Bluetooth Wireless Headphones”
My question is…; “are they good with listening to music from an iPhone 12?”
-a bit specific I know, but I want to be sure prior to getting something fairly pricey for myself.
I'm learning to play guitar again, and I'm currently using a drop pedal, that goes into a direct injection box, that then goes into my audio interface (Scarlett Solo 3rd gen) and into my PC. My PC is running a guitar amp software to get the correct sound I want, and I've configured it to output BACK to my audio interface using ASIO so that I can plug my headphones in and listen to everything. It works perfectly with zero noticeable delay.
However, I also want to be able to record the sound sometimes, through other means such as OBS or something else. But if I use my interface, I end up with the sound that I'd get before it gets to the virtual amp.
Any ideas? I've tried using software such as voicemeeter but I can't for the life of me figure it out.
I was gifted 2 Klipsch RF15 tower speakers. Just picked up a Yamaha HTR-5550 receiver last night. Got it connected and sound is coming through but is like coming in waves. It'll be good for a second or 2 then get quiet for a second then back to normal. I made sure all connections are secured and ran through everything I could think of. I haven't tried different speaker cables so maybe these are defective? Anything else it could be?
So. This is probably a weird question, but I’m a scientific researcher who, for a study I’m conducting, needs to be able to create an artificial delay (that I can control)
I need two people to be able to be in a room together talking, but one person’s half of the conversation is delayed by between 200-1000ms. I was thinking a set up where one person speaks into a mic -> it routes the audio into either a computer or something that delays the audio-> and then into noise cancelling headphones worn by the other person. I’m just not quite sure how to make that middle part happen! I thought maybe a delay pedal or something, but it looks difficult to connect a mic and headphones to a typical pedal without some other connections, and I need very controlled delay so I don’t want to add anything that might affect that.
Let me know if there’s anything you can think of, thanks!
Hi, I'm looking for recommendations for a mixer/receiver device to expand my desktop audio capabilities a bit.
I have currently a Klipsch 2.1 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000062VUO) speaker system which I use with 2 computers. This accepts two 3.5mm inputs - one from a mac and the other from a PC. There is no individual level adjustment for the two sources, only master volume and subwoofer knobs, so I currently adjust volume on the source device themselves and leave the master volume at about 50% all the time.
The speakers themselves are fine, but I would like to have some input sliders, to adjust the mix between the computers, as well as more inputs.
II want more input options, so I can connect additional computers, audio players, etc. Ideally it would also support Bluetooth and Airplay, however these could be external receivers wired to their own inputs if need be.
I want physical level mixer/sliders to be able to quickly adjust each device's volume from a central control on my desk.
I have a concept of what I want this device to be (attached diagram showing current and desired setup). I have attempted to shop for something like this a few times and I end up overwhelmed with choices. Additionally much of what I find is geared towards audiophile/professionals - far beyond my needs and budget. Obviously I don't want it to sound like trash but I am certainly no hardcore audiophile.
Additional thoughts:
Budget - ideally < $100 (I'm sure that is probably unreasonable, so I will consider up to ~$300-400)
I host small dances using a Yamaha Stagepas300 PA system + a Yorkville YXL12P powered speaker on the ground. At our last event, the low end on the Yorkville would cut in and out randomly. Jiggling the patch cable in some way seemed related, but it was mostly random. Often the bass would come back just when I walked towards the speaker without touching anything.
Input from laptop music into the Yamaha Mixer (close up here) via RCA, output to the 2 PA speakers + output to the Yorkville speaker via the powered sp (monitor) mono out. I switched the output from the mono/L out to R out with no change. Monitor output volume was about 50%, aux input (music for the whole setup) around 70%, line in and volume out and Yorkville both around 50%, so nothing too high.
It SORT of sounded like the woofer cut out and just the tweeter was going but hard to say. Sound on the Yamaha speakers was not impacted. How can I check if this is an issue with my Yamaha mixer, the patch cable (it was used), or the speaker itself? The speaker was certified used and just a couple weeks left on warranty so I'm rushing a bit! Speaker was used for most of September a few hours a day on low to moderate volume with zero issues (same set up), and have used it on its own at moderate-medium volume with no issues.
thanks!
Hi! Is it possible to do this:
Take a song from Apple Music (presumably copyright protected) and edit out a short clip of it (not change the song in any way); let’s say maybe 5 seconds of the song
Add that clip to a playlist
Make that playlist available to the public
I bought myself my first ever subwoofer for my new 2.1 audio setup. The Subwoofer is a ESI Aktiv 10s and the AVR a Denon AVR X1700h.
The Subwoofer has a TRS output and I connected it with the avr in the cinch input
As you can see, I'm using a 3.5 to cinch cable with a 3.5 to 6.3 adapter to plug it into the Subwoofer.
In the AVR I have set the speaker to small.
When I play bass heavy music, I can't really notice the Subwoofer, my bookshelf speaker are moving more than this subwoofer and I don't know what I've been doing wrong. When turn the crossover setting from the sub at 180hz, I can hear a static humming noise.
Help is appreciated!
I just wanted to ask because my At2005usb is already 4 years old, and I wanted to know how long it will last?
Hello!
I recently purchased the Scarlett Solo 4th Gen interface.
Everything works perfectly in FL Studio, but I’ve noticed some audio latency in other apps, specifically Opera GX and Discord. This latency doesn’t occur when my headphones are plugged directly into the PC.
It gets pretty frustrating—for example, when I type in Opera GX, the "typing" sounds are slightly delayed.
I’ve followed all the Windows optimization steps from the Focusrite website, enabled Direct Monitoring, connected the interface to a USB 3.0 port, and experimented with different sample rates and buffer sizes in the device settings.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a known fix, or is some level of latency just unavoidable when using audio interfaces?
I use ATH-M50X headphones and I5-13600KF CPU if that helps.
So, I just bought a new prebuilt gaming pc and I am having no output audio issues but I am having some seriously bad input audio issues. When I say I am unhearable i mean it. So i did some overall testing including doing some Sound messing around with in the control panel but nothing at all can improve the issue. I am gonna try a factory reset after posting this but I wanted to hear some possible things you guys may think have happened (I am 100% its on the PC end)
I have used this mic on multiple different devices and have had zero issues with input. So I know for a fact its something with the prebuilt.
If yall have any ideas please let me know
Hey, I recently set up a turntable setup, with speakers connected to the amp, connected to the vinyl player. With no music playing, a couple hours after the set up, I heard a loud pop from the speakers and now the amp isn’t turning on. This amp and speakers have had the same problem in the past, and the amp only is able to be turned on after about a week or so. Any ideas on what might be causing this? Thanks
Over the past 2 years, Behringer UMC204HD has been the death of me with its never ending noise.
I've tried:
Nothing has worked. I keep getting noise on preamps even when absolutely no thing is connected and the volum only goes a certain % in until it is noisy even in pure silence.
I'm looking for a powerful update. I've been thinking about getting a powered USB interface, par example:
-Audient Sono (I don't play electric guitar yet, but I see it is powered by electricity and it would easily replace an amp once I get a guitar).
However, I can't stop but find interesting:
What is your opinion and suggestion?
Regarding to price, Audient Sono is the least expensive and the other ones are pretty expensive, but they are on my limit of expense (in my country, that is around $600).
FYI: I play multiple instruments, but my usual go to is (digital) piano + singing. I'd like, in the future, to do something wider live maybe, like: voice, piano, guitar and a groovebox. (However, piano and groovebox could be midi, so I wouldn't need that many inputs...?)
I am looking to get into tube amps with a budget of $250. I have heard about schitt audio being good for the price but they have quality control issues. Any recommendations for affordable amps that will play nice with my setup?
My setup : Vintage Kenwood KA-55 amp, Audio Techinca lp-120 turntable with AT-VM95ML stylus, Klipsch R50M Speakers, And Sennheiser HD 560 headphones. (I intend to upgrade my headphones soon)
Info regarding my setup and gear currently being used, and history of what I've tried:
AM5 desktop setup with 'Asrock A620m-hdv m.2+' MoBo info resource + "Realtek ALC897 7.1 CH HD Audio"Codec, Nahimic Audio
Beyerdynamics DT770 80Ohm wired headphones, but honestly I mostly listen either with my Logitech Z623 sound system which I must say have served me and others extremely well over time, without issues.
I used to have the Sennheiser EPOS GSX 1200 Link to EPOS's site for info on the GSX 1200.
I was very satisfied with just this DAC/amp? - but the MicroUSB port came loose and I haven't had luck re-soldering another one onto the PCB. And I was using its EQ to its limits - so I had to supplement with the freeware software "Equalizer APO" - any analogue signal would work perfectly when it was operational!
Sadly the DAC + EQ APO worked wonders with analogue sound systems - the the newer Sony ANC headphones (bluetooth 5.0 -> 5.2) APO wouldn't be able to interact with headphones EQ at all (at least not with XM4- like it's not supported (APO & BT) I suspect is incompatible.
I doubt there is a solution out there that would improve the music experience, mainly for my Z623 + DT770.
I mostly listen to metal(core)/melodic rock/metal/heavy metal/EDM/Electronic + BASS songs<3
But highs are more important to me than lows I think, considering 65% of my consumption is metal with screaming vocals. But I would want to have options open to be adaptable to bass-heavy music sessions if possible.
----END OF INFODUMP---- Recommendations are very welcome and would potentially be compensated with some kind of service or favour - if this actually ends up improving my world of music listening!
What kind of equipment would you recommend me to buy? I would appreciate suggestions ranging anywhere from $200 --> $500. But if someone has the perfect re-do of my whole setup I am open to this aswell - even if exceeding max budged by 200% ($1000)
But I have to assume that since I have the Logitech Z623 (2.1 ch), and if needed; Audiophile review of my speakers.
I have a lot of expeerience with building, modifying and/or upgrading desktop PCs, it is where my education and interests lead me. But sound is not something I've studied to any extent. Just know about the existence of DACs and Amps and such. Some XLR and some USB with interfaces and such.
Point: I will be able to learn to use the audiophile equipment you potentially recommend to the fullest extent, hopefully. But also then I would ask; please - do include information that would be nice to know. Like cables, interfaces and such, since I am indeed an audiophile noob, I admit it.
Feel free to recommend a whole new speaker system, headphones. I am just as open to the proposition that my current sound system is limited in such a way that buying expensive sound hardware would be waste - so please give say bluntly what would work within my budget (200-1000usd)
Hockey Arena Audio Help Needed
Hello. My beer league is the only one in the city that doesn't have audio for warmups and goals. It's run out of the university of Ottawa. Iv attached a picture of the connections below the time keepers box. Iv tried connecting my iphone to both the XLR and what i assume is the mono rca. I don't get an error on the phone but there is no sound coming out. Hoping others have more audio technical experience and can help out. My next thought is to try a mini amp to boost the signal from the phone 🤷♂️
So I got a steam deck and I like to play games while I watch tv in the background but I watch tv on my AirPods because I share my room. I want to play games and hear them through my AirPods but I also want to hear my tv through my AirPods at the same time. I thought of maybe getting a mixer with two Bluetooth transmitters or something that I could connect my steam deck and tv to through Bluetooth and plug them into a mixer then Bluetooth my headphones to the mixer. I would prefer to do it all through Bluetooth because I want the least amount of wires as possible. Does anyone have suggestions for what I could do.
Hi everyone, I'm looking for some help with locating a piece of hardware for my home setup. My current audio setup is a Mackie 12 channel mixer with various sources on the different channels. I have the main outs currently going to a Shiit Magni headphone amp. Then I have a set of aux outs going to a Avantree Oasis Plus to add Bluetooth to the mix. While the Oasis Plus is working great for aptx ll and aptx hd, I would like to start using ldac instead. It doesn't look like Avantree has anything that currently supports ldac. I found the FIIO BTR30Pro, however the only audio in is digital (USB, coax, spdif). Does anyone happen to know of a device that would work well for this setup?
Does anyone know if i can connect my studio monitor and my headset at the same time and not having to disconnect the other one when i want to use either one??
Hey, I’m not too experienced with this type of stuff and was hoping you guys would be able to help!
If I was to get an SM7B, would I be better off with a cheaper interface with lower db of gain and putting a cloudlifter on, or getting a more expensive, better interface with a higher db of gain, sufficient for the SM7B and not have to purchase a cloudlifter? I was looking at getting around 70db, which from what I’ve researched, seems to be the best.
Also if you have any recommendations for interfaces that would be great too, Thanks!
Hello, good folks of Reddit,
I am a complete noob when it comes to home audio, all I owned prior to this was simple Bluetooth speakers. I recently saved up to buy Polk XT 15, and i also got a Magnat Center Channel speaker for a throwaway price. I also brought the required cables, a JVC 7030 Stereo Reciever and a Wiim mini to connect it to Bluetooth to connect to an Apple TV. Maybe I am in over my head or just dumb, but i am not able to figure out how to put these together and play sound from the speakers and connect it to my Apple TV. i am attaching all images, would really appreciate any help to help me make sense of which wire goes where.
Thank you for your patience in advance.
Hello! I know nothing about audio or Reddit lmfao but I'm really stuck here and would appreciate assistance. I want my Nintendo Switch audio on my Macbook Air 2020 Intel so I can listen to Discord calls and the Switch audio through my USB headphones that are plugged into the macbook. Here's my current attempt:
Nintendo Switch ➡️ 3.5mm TRRS cable ➡️ Ground loop isolator ➡️ Apple brand headphone jack to USB-C adapter ➡️ Macbook Air 2020 Intel
The headphone jack to USB-C is not being recognized as an input, only an output. I'm not looking to stream or anything, so I'm looking for a relatively low-priced solution without a huge loss in audio quailty. I also wanna make sure the solution allows me to have the game's surround or stereo audio in my headphones, one adapter I tried only had mono input.
Also, should I be using a TRRS cable for this? Or a TRS one?
Thank you so so much :)
