Sign in as system owner loop fix

Hello, I have been experiencing the same issues as everybody and here is what finally worked for me, ( I couldn’t even get any speakers to add to my system since the new app update)

I downloaded the Windows Sonos app. I went to reset controller and then check for system updates. I entered my account information and when I submitted it my IOS iPhone app began functioning normally without the death loop. On one of these options a system pop up prompted me to enter my account info.

I was able to finally add a second sonos one and now the system seems to work reasonably well.

Alright fine. I get it.

I actually thought everyone was just a bunch of whiners. I thought the UI was a marginal improvement but honestly didn’t really care that much. I thought most the complaints on this sub were just overblown. I’ve been a Sonos customer for over 10 years and I have spent quite a bit of money over that time to build out a pretty nice system. Never had an issue.

But then my products stopped working for literally no reason (well we know the reason). My outdoor amp and move have been in the exact same spot for 3+ years. Literally nothing has changed and yet now I’ll maybe be able to play music for 10-15 minutes before one or both just drop connection, sporadically coming back for a second or two only to disconnect again.

How can an app update screw up this bad? Basic product features just don’t work anymore.

Youtube Music / Recent Search History

Is YtMusic working for you guys in the new app? It is my families most used streaming service, and all we see with the new app are errors. So we can't listen to music anymore.

And what about search history? E.g. Autocomplete with recent searches?

Couldn't find these issues yet...

It works well on android devices where I installed the old version.

PS: 1.1 Stars for the App now. We can't be alone...

Hey Sonos!

Go fuck yourselves, first of all. Second of all, admit defeat and give us back the old trash app that wasn’t as trashed as the current app.

Your entire user base is turning on you. Give us the option to go back/download the previous app until yall fix the shit show that y’all released.

Seriously guys, why are we not pushing for this? start tagging them everywhere. Just how they have the S1 and S2 app, they should give us the old version to download the previous less trashed and fucked app.

Help!

I don’t know if it’s because of all these new app problems but I’m having an issue.

I am new to the Sonos family, I am getting my speakers second hand but it’s a start. I have a beam gen 1 that is working great and I love it

I just found a pair of play:1 speakers that I want to add as surrounds. I can get them into my app and see them but both are failing to register.

I have tried factory resetting and using a lan cable also while resetting and connecting in various ways but I still can’t get them registered.

If any experienced Sonos pro knows what I can try it would be greatly appreciated

Back Deck

I currently have a Sonance MAG 6.0 around my pool area. I want to add 2 speakers on my screened in deck so that when we play music it’s all over and controlled with the Sonos amp. I don’t wanna break the bank. Any recommendations?

How Sonos Leaders Explained the New App and Products on the Recent Quarterly Earnings Call

The new app was released the same day as the Sonos Q1 2024 quarterly earnings call. That was not by coincidence. I've included a couple quotes below from the transcript which make give insight into why the app changed so much.

Q1 2024 Earnings Call Transcript: https://s22.q4cdn.com/672173472/files/doc_financials/2024/q2/FINAL-SONO-2Q24-Earnings-Transcript-docx.pdf

There are four things I want to highlight that stem directly from the investments we’re making,

and how we’re laser-focused on attracting new customers and getting existing customers to add more products. The first is the all new Sonos app. This is our most extensive app redesign and re-architecture yet. Our original app was designed and architected over a decade ago, when Sonos and our customers’ needs were very different. We started from the ground up so we can build an app that would deliver our customers a great experience every day, allow us to more easily add new products and categories to it, and move faster with new innovations and features going forward. Our new app brings services, content and system controls to one customizable home screen, creating an unprecedented streaming experience. Best of all, our redesigned app is easier, faster and better. It once again raises the bar for the home music listening experience, and sets up our ability to expand into new categories and experiences. Our app is a proofpoint of what we have always said: we are the story of software eating audio. Our software truly differentiates our products from everything else on the market, and is key to unlocking the opportunity ahead of us.

Patrick Spence, CEO - Sonos

You bet, Erik. I'd say for our categories, last three months have been more of the same. And I do wonder if it's our categories have been challenged for a while and maybe I think we had characterized last year kind of being in a pretty weak categories overall. And so, we're not seeing anything that makes us believe it's getting any weaker or any stronger as we go through it. And I think the – so we continue to really focus on what we can control. And I think it's a huge testament to the team, really, the state of our brand and our product portfolio that we've been able to execute across the first half successfully. And so, obviously, we take learnings from that, understanding from that. I think the other thing is we've done a lot of work to make sure we understand the new category we're going into. It's a large one. So, that gives us confidence. We believe we bring a unique perspective as well. As you might imagine, we've got lots of conversations with channel partners and we also know it's a growing category. So from our perspective, it's a little different than the other categories we're in right now because it is growing year-over-year. And so, all those things combined, plus our ability to execute across the first half, is really what gives us the confidence to keep our guidance for fiscal 2024 intact.

Anyone Using Deezer w/ Newest Version?

I installed the newest Sonos version. Bad decision. I couldn't get Deezer working. So, after an hour plus I reverted to the previous version. Now that the dust has settled a bit I'm wondering if anyone is using the newest version successfully with Deezer. If so, I might dive back in.

New App Search

When search for music in the new app, is there no longer the option to select if you are searching for a song, album, or artist? That was a standard feature in the old app.

Reset my Move 5 times and still won't show up in app

The new app is crap. We packed up all our stuff several weeks ago and moved to a different state. All my speakers were working fine but now I can't get my single Move on my new network. I've done a factory reset 5 times and then added it to the new app but keep getting this message. I reset power on the Move and...nothing. Never shows up.

Why are all my playlists missing. So sick of these grey boxes that never update.

Why does this issue not get enough coverage? I've reinstalled a few times but no change, all my playlists and stuff are presumably hidden behind grey boxes that never update. Basic stuff that used to work now doesn't. Playlists built up over years using multiple sources was a big thing or me. Yes I can stream from a single service to one or more speakers and I can have fun not being able to adjust volumes properly or add to end of queue or play next as the mood takes me or based on requests from guests but where are my playlists and when will this be fixed? Fuck sonos.

Sonosnet vs Wifi?

Oddly my system is a working (minus alarms and with a lot of latency) but I have one speaker hardwired into a router. MANY of my speakers (not all) are running on Sonosnet. My Era 300’s and Roams are running on wifi. (Station).

If that’s of any value or help to anyone. Still think this a blunder of gargantuan proportions and it makes me leery of buying any more sonos devices but….everything is working for now

Sonos App WONT WORK!!!

OMG this new app is making me want to ditch the whole system! I can not get the app to switch rooms at all - it keeps sticking to one of my rooms and won't change over to another and then music playing in one room won't come to others - it's a mess. I now have to use my laptop for access. Any ideas?

Which color?

Hi,

I'm thinking about getting a Sonos Beam gen. 2 for the TV in the kitchen. The wall color is very light gray. Which color Beam would you purchase in this situation?

Downgrade workaround

So I can't post the URL here, but the workaround posted by micdalco on the Sonos community page worked for me (basically, downloading the APK from the last halfway decent version of the app, before they replaced it with the new shitty v.80).

I'm not a techie but it only took me about 5 minutes to do, it works and (so far anyway) hasn't broken anything. Widget, queue, separate room volume controls, sleep timer are all back. The only downside I've found so far is adding new features like a new music service. Small sacrifice to get the widget back, though!

Queue manipulation

Hey all. I’m trying to be optimistic about this app. My Roam seems to be working now. But there are two functions that I can’t find.

Does anybody know how to delete songs from a queue? Sometimes I like about 90% of the playlist Spotify makes for me. Also, is there a way to do “play next”, to add a song into a queue?

Can someone create a new app already ffs?

So there the ability to rollback your Sonos app to the older version, but that will only work for so long before they force you to update again.

So is anyone working on reverse engineering this app and making a homebrew version. I mean beyond the simple api the allow for just volume and play/pause...

I think it's time we take away Sonos control oversight... Now that this has national news coverage the pressure on Sonos has to mounting, God knows im ready to start shorting their stock.

I'm sure there all kinds of legal hurtles to the app and copyright... but if Sonos themselves breaks the only way to control these devices, then the laws really won't be enforceable, as there are exceptions for these cases in some countries.

New app destroyed my Sonos system

Since installing and trying the new app, the following is broken:

  • Using the sonos connect as input for the speaker systems in my house. It activates the source, but jitter occurs in the sound. I tried to tweak any way I could, but I can not get it to work anymore.
  • I cannot group all of my speakers anymore. The 2 I tried to play music on from the app refuse to go back into the group. Even when I select "use all speakers" it refuses to join them.
  • Falling back from the app to apple music and airplay, still the 2 speakers refuse to connect

Aside from that, the app is extremely slow in pulling up information (1 have a 1 gig internet line from my provider at home and the latest Eero wifi 6 variant, when testing I was standing in 1 meter radius from the routing device. It appears that the app does not cache information, but keeps pulling it from the internet every time I take a step.

What a sh*tshow...

Cannot add back my 2 Play 5s to my Sonos Arc system since new app update

Everything was working fine before the app update a few weeks ago. I have a Sonos arc and subwoofer and 2 play 5s. Once I updated the app the play 5 disappeared and when I try to add them back I get this.

They need a new PR person too

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2024/05/17/sonos-new-app-update-problems/

Guess they don’t care about long time users given Sonos stock is up 18% in the last six months. What a colossal mistake. At least they have given the competition a playbook of what not to do. 🤯
