I've searched the web and haven't found a solution. Is there a way to create proper qr codes with data merge that actually have the "hyperlink" property? When I use it, it always defaults back to plain text.
Every tutorial I see for InDesign is for older versions where things are slightly different somehow. I’m trying number my pages and this is what I’ve tried:
Select master page, open text box, type, insert special character, markers, current page number.
All the tutorials say an “A” will show up, but it shows the current number and only shows up on the currant page so I’m basically still having to manually number my pages. I’m starting to think there’s a conflict between me having apparently the newest version and all tutorials being for at least 2023
Hey everyone,
I’ve been trying all weekend to add a 3mm bleed on all sides so I can send my document to a printing service, but I just can’t figure it out. I’ve tried Illustrator, InDesign, and even Canva, read every help page I could find, and I’m still stuck.
The printer requires 3mm on each side (top, bottom, left, and right) to ensure that nothing important gets cut off. I’d be incredibly grateful if someone could walk me through the process?
Here’s the document: GIRP Guidance Report 2024
Any help would mean the world to me—thank you so much in advance! ❤️
Hello there, I'm freaking out.
I'm making 6 bilingual books with all English on left pages and all French on right pages.
I have several 700 pages Documents (not Books). Chapters begin with a B-parent page (e.g. p.3-4), other regular pages are A-Parent (e.g. p.5-18). I want to make it so my right A-Parent pages have a little Roman numeral number at the top that indicates chapter number (I, II, III, etc.)
This seems very easy on paper, but I just can't do it. I can't seem to make the numbering and sections options work, it always either restarts at one, or sets all text variables to the same number (I've gone to chpater 47 before realizing all my chapters were now numbered 47...).
Could you recommend a tutorial that explains how to do it ?
Thanks for you help, I'm just so pissed.
I've downloaded a font and just tried to use it for the first time, but a glyph for E is missing! And I can see that letter in the font file and everything, so I'm not sure what's wrong?
Does anyone know of a free script to export pages as single pdfs from InDesign CS6? I would want it to still allow pdf export profile selection (or if not, use the last profile that was used). It would also be a nice bonus to have it export the files with a 2-digit incremental file name (01, 02, 03...10, 11, 12). I only know very low-end MacGuyver-style scripting (cut and duct tape) otherwise I would just write a script to do this.
Since InDesign is an industry-standard there HAS to be a solution for this.
First off, unfortunately, I have to use InDesign CS6 at work (no, I don't know why the company hasn't updated the software). But this is my job so I need to make it work as well as I can.
I have made sure that the appearance of black settings are set to both view and output black accurately but when I export PDFs there seems to still be at least some ghosts of other color channels (CMY) in some things that I know were set up as 100% black. Also, I'm exporting these files to make plates for newspapers so I also need to output things that are "close-to-black" as 100% black.
The process they've been using (before I got there) is to export the PDFs then open them in Photoshop, do a color profile conversion, output them as tiffs, take the tiffs back into an InDesign template for single pages (I think this step is just to ensure the pages are inside the printable borders), and output as single PDFs again for the ancient imposition software they're using (*sigh*). Obviously, all of these extra steps are very time-consuming, messy, annoying, and opens more possibilities for errors.
So, what do you think is going wrong with the original export of the PDFs and how do I make sure these output correctly so I don't have to do all this extra stuff? All ideas are welcome.
could someone export this as a IDML file please so I can use it in affinity suite please.
thanks in advance, https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-5O9AaBulSc_qr8yv6nxOhwDVF2xQ9Nw
Hey all, I'm very new to Indesign/Illustrator and was wondering if someone could teach me how to create mockups? Added one for example, I am not sure if this can be done in Indesign or Illustrator but I can access either!
Hey yall, I just wanted to see if there was a place to pay for legitimate magazine templates for indesign? I can’t figure out how to use the program (even with multiple youtube videos) and I really just want to create my magazine. I’m not a graphic designer so I want something more plug and play if that makes sense. I know that YouTube should be a great resource for me but I’m being honest with myself, most videos are talking too much, moving too fast, and not “ELI5”.
So i use a laptop usually and things are normally fine. however for some reason now all objects on my second monitor is not moveable. i can click on the object and when i attempt to move it theres a red circle icon. if i move the indesign window to my main screen everything is moveable and the problem only happens on the 2nd monitor. ive tried reseting preferences, nothing is locked.
How do you prepare a long document in Word? I have realised that this is one of the most important things, and I would like to know which styles are correct and how to prepare it.
All this focused on books: novels and essays.
Thank you very much!
Anyone know where I can and how I can get super sick graphics into it? For a HSC major work. and anyone know how to like blur things or fade things away on indesign so I can get like colour splotches. Also open to any cool ideas for graphics, my portfolio is Mario kart themed!! If anyone knows how the graphics were done in the photos pls lmk!!
I'm trying to make the leading look more like photo 1 which looks tighter but says it has the same leading as photo 2 which is 15 pt. I am using the same exact paragraph style for both but can not understand why the leading looks so much larger on text in photo 2
About how the reading order Adobe picks is almost always, without exception, the stupidest possible way that the document could read. Stuff on the bottom of the page first? Sure. One random word at the end of the paragraph designated as it's own section? Hell yes!!
It's goes on and on, and it's pushing me to the brink of insanity. If you know anything about it, let's chat.
Hey! As you can see in the picture there is a slightly blue background connected to a link. I want to remove this background/link. How do I do this? Because the background/link doesnt show up in the layers.
Hey all, I am making a foundational typography styles document which will serve as the basis for a brand's design system. I am working on custom bullets and numbering now.
Since these things are controlled used individual Character Styles, is there a way to indicate "make this bullet 80% the current size of the font" or do I just need to make a Character Style for each size?
Looking for some advice/direction. We produce a community services guide every year, and our annual editing workflow involves physically marking up a printed copy that then has to be interpreted and re-keyed into the InDesign file.
In this example, we've got five main parts of each entry:
I'd love to have a spreadsheet with columns for the each of these info categories that could be imported into InDesign each year.
As such, I'd also love to be able to map the spreadsheet columns to our paragraph styles for the import. I'm assuming we'd always need to go through the document and fix weird formatting things, but I'm still thinking that such a work flow would be better than several people making and writing notes over notes in the margins.
I know it's pretty standard to map spreadsheets to tables and table styles, but we're not using tables. Anybody done something like this?
Is this an xml thing? Any better ideas?
Thanks!
Hello Im new to easyCatalog.
When I create a new "custom field," can't it be used across the different "tabs" inside the panel?
I can't see the new "custom field" under "show/hide" when I'm on a different "tab."
Hi first time posting here - pretty regular indesign user but running into a wall with a very annoying task. Basically I'm using a font that I need to swap out for very specific characters through a large body of text. (Think replacing every ampersand in a font that is otherwise fine). I've messed around googling find/replace functions and no luck so far, any tips would be appreciated, otherwise I'm just going to be manually switching fonts for quite a while, which I'd rather not leave to human error.
Can anyone please help me get this fixed it just started doing this in the export settings menu where the text is getting cut off with … Does anyone know how to fix this?
I am working in another designer's master indesign file that I received from the publisher. There are ~300 linked images. When I export (no matter what PDF setting I choose), it takes forever to export, and it comes out as a huge file (around 890mb). Can someone please help? I am not supposed to alter/modify any of the images, and I need to get a print-ready file. My export compression settings are set to downsample color and grayscale images to 300 for images above 450, and downsample monochrome images to 1200 for images above 1800.
(image files are all .tif) and export settings have them compressing to automatic (jpg)
I have a whole package, filled with images, whenever I export to PDF, this photo does this. It's a crisp image, properly linked, good quality. It's the only image in the document doing this, and it has not done this in the past, I have used this image on several recent documents I've created... None of my export settings have changed, I have no idea whats going on? How do I fix this?!
I use indesign 2020, how can i send the the indesign file being editable with the images in place?
Is anyone else having issues downgrading from version 20.1?
Mine is losing each and every one of its marbles, and having seen the earlier post I've been trying to downgrade, but CC is showing no previous versions available. Is this the same for anyone else?
