I am fairly new to Adobe Illustrator, and trying to fill in a shape. I choose green for fill and black for stroke. I draw my line, but it isn't filling in with green, and as soon as I lift my pencil from the screen, the fill color reverts to no fill. I have searched online for instructions on how to do it, but of course none of the articles I have found say, "If your fill color disappears and doesn't actually fill, do this...." What am I missing? TIA.
Hi all, not sure if the title makes sense lol but this is my case:
I forgot to embed all images in my AI file, leaving some of them as linked files mistakenly. Iāve sent the file to my friend to edit since my pc recently crashed but the file is missing all linked images obviously.
I am wondering if I send him all the missing images to download to his computer, if he opens up the file again, will the images show up since he now has them?
Some reassurance on this will be helpful. Thanks
Hi everyone. New to the group and tried googling for the answer but always come up a little short. Iām a self taught illustrator thatās been using a combination of Illustrator and Photoshop for almost a decade. Because I'm self taught, I have a nasty habit of only ever designing with my finger and MacBook trackpad which makes pressure sensitive tools a little tricky. The tool I use most is the pencil tool. I draw all of my shapes and then pathfinder them into art. My question is when I use the Pencil tool and draw lines it's always the perfect straight line. I know I can tweak the width profile or add Illustrator FX to the line but I feel like that's about it. What I want to be able to do is draw with the pencil tool but have the line it produces be a little bit wavier, as if it's more hand drawn while still remaining a fully vectorized line. Something that remains along the path I've drawn but has some more rougher detail to the line and still can be adjusted with stroke width. Is there any way to do that with the pencil tool? And if so, how do I add it to my set up? Or would I have to utilize the Brush tool only. Thanks!
new to illustrator and having trouble with envelope distort, text has been customised and when distorting it shrink.
I want it as half circle without shrinking.
Hey queens, before I crash out, could someone help me out: my document was being all buggy (would move an object and it would appear in the new position but also in the original position) so I saved and reopened my project to see everything was white? All my images, shapes and text are white but in the layer panel everything is showing normal and when I click on text for example, it shows its the colour it's supposed to be in the properties (NOT WHITE). I am confused and perturbed.
How would I go about superimposing a pattern over an image in a subtle way like this?
Why is illustrator so hard to get? Itās my second time using this program for school and every time I want to create something, or do a specific task, it doesnāt do it?
Can anyone point me to places where I could practice more so I can actually get better at using this program?
Hi guys, so im creating a mockup of a hoodie, but when iām done and try to fill out the hoodie with color this happens, does anybody know why? (im a begginner at adobe illustrator)
Iām not sure if thereās some sort of āplace in eachā thing in missing or not but my hands would really appreciate the help!
Normally I just copy a text box into each space and manually line it up then I go back through and type the right number for each box.
Also curious if thereās a way I can drag and copy a number and have it go up by one each time?
Dear community! Canāt for the life of me figure out how they made the shape go around like this. I thought it was a blend tool but I donāt get this effect. And, is there a way to make it go around around like doughnut? Thank you!
Iāve been using adobe products for years, and hitting the F key throughout the day consistently pains me. I have yet to figure out a way to disable the F key. Please help. And please donāt tell me to not hit the F key, itās on the keyboard home row.
Iāve seen some workarounds for a plug-in, and I donāt want to do that on my work computer.

Thought that someone could use this because I looove these websites so far!! <3
I was watching a few Tarantino movies and this kind of typography caught my attention. Small caps and the text on the second line is aligned not to the baseline, but to the cap height. I'm wondering what the most effective and proper way would be to recreate this in Illustrator. Thanks!
Hi, So I'm a rookie with Illustrator so I need some help. I've made a basic coupon and now I need to make 150 same looking ones with different code.
Instead of saving it 150 times, I used date merge with excel list of codes. I can scroll through them when looking at that variable tab but I was wondering how to save them at one go, in one pdf.
So it's 150 pages of same looking coupon with different code?
Thanks!
Iāve been working on a project for many hours and it suddenly said it was not responding and had crashed, I reopened Illustrator afterward and saw that my file was still there, but was only left with the version from approx 6hours ago. My autosave is on but it did not recover the new work i had done in that time span. Is there any way to recover that version where i had done an addition 6hours of work? Please help š
My client is requesting specifically an illustrator template allowing him to customize multiple cards on one document using variable data sets. I initially set this up in a method of using 2 separate documents and having him copy/paste the custom card from document 1 into the template (document 2). This worked well for me but he didnāt like how time consuming it was and wants it to be streamlined all onto one document. From what Iāve read this is only possible to do in InDesign? Iād really rather not go that route because 1) he specifically requested illustrator, and 2) I havenāt used indesign since 2010 and saying Iām rusty is an understatement!
Sometimes, when I open panels in Illustrator, they close immediately.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Restarting the computer occasionally works, but it's not a reliable solution and quite frustrating.
Any suggestions?
(I reported this same issue on the Adobe forum, with images and videos, but they couldnāt suggest anything that solved my problem: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/illustrator-panel-issue/m-p/15114749#M433753)
Iām not sure what happenedāI havenāt changed any of my settings. I always use the Selection and Shift tools to adjust objects, but now theyāre not working. I followed my usual process for resizing and adjusting dimensions, but itās no longer functioning. Has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it? Aside from using the Scale tool, I need the Shift and Selection tools to work again.
Update: resetting preferences solved the issue
Hi! I'm new to adobe illustrator and I'm having trouble with exporting sticker designs. The edges of my words do not stay smooth after exporting and once I rasterize the design to 300 ppi, my font is no longer smooth and good quality. I also have trouble with there not being a transparent background when I save. What type of file should I be saving my designs as and how can I export while maintaining the same level of quality I see when making my design?
For context, I plan to print these stickers out using my own printer and then cut them using my cricut.
I'm practicing recreating this logo. It looks like it's made out of circles cut inside the shape of a face. I was thinking NOT to change opacities of circles cut with the face, but rather make all the parts from the intersections of the circles with themselves and the face, and recolor all the parts. Is there a simple way to take a bunch of objects (in this case circles and face) and create new paths from all of their intersections? I hope my explanation is okay, let me know if I can explain it any better.
Hi! Sorry for the bad "screenshot".
I'm trying to create a path around my entire shape, and I've run into a problem where the outer path doesn't match the pointiness of the inner path.
In order to create what I have right now, I copied the round path of the J and the G and decreased their size (definitely not the most efficient way, I know)
How might I do this? I tried the Windows > Stroke menu but the options for the cap didn't do anything except make it round.
Thanks!!
They really dont deserve the top position with all the gaslighting they put us through.
Thinking about getting the Adobe CC subscription. I just wanted Illustrator but it seems you have to get the whole cc subscription if you're a student, is this right? However I'll no longer be a student after 3 months, can I still get the student rate for the full year after I start the subscription or only the months that I'm still in education?
Thanks!
