Subreddit Rules:
1. Post must be a map, be fictional and be OC or commissioned.
Self explanatory. The purpose of the sub is to post artistic works in the form of fictional maps.
2. Finished maps only.
Do not post WIPs and updates or simple concepts. Your posts should be fleshed out and completed. If you want to get feedback on your WIP maps or show them off, the ImaginaryMaps Discord server is the place to do so.
3.No low effort maps or thoughtless content. No edits of existing maps. You should put thought and effort into your maps.
Put some effort into the aesthetics of your map. Add some details.
Have an interesting/unique concept and treat it with thought. You need not write paragraphs of lore, but put some thought into your maps.
Do not post edits of existing maps, including terrain maps and Wikipedia maps.
Do not post edits of province-based maps of the world
Maps using BAM templates must have notable changes.
Do not post flagmaps.
See FAQ
For a more in-depth explanation of rule 3, click here.
4. No support/advocation for genocidal regimes or atrocities/war crimes. No bigotry or hate speech.
Posting maps where genocides and atrocities happen does not break this rule. Explicitly supporting what’s happening in the map breaks this rule.
Do not advocate for anti-democratic and bigoted ideas and make sure to retain civil argument backed discussions.
Lastly, we deal with very sensitive subjects on this sub. Because of this, we may take pre-emptive actions to stop genocide denial from manifesting on the subreddit based on outside activity.
5. No hard-to-read or incomprehensible or low-resolution maps.
Post high resolution maps and make your maps recognisable/readable. If people don’t know what’s going on in your map or their eyes hurt while looking at it, there’s no point in posting a map.
No single frame GIFs.
No incredibly pixelated maps or images full of compression artifacts.
6. No advertising
Posts and comments where to main goal is to advertise something are not allowed. You are still allowed to make comments under your posts linking to other maps, subreddits or websites, but this should not be the main purpose of posts.
7. No shitposts, excluding those that are exceptionally well made AND original. Go to circlejerk sub!
Unless your shitpost is an artistic wonder please post it in the circlejerk subreddit. The standards for effort are higher for shitposts than it is for other maps. This doesn't mean that maps with unrealistic or wacky lore are banned, as long as they are approached in a serious manner.
What does and what doesn’t constitute a shitpost is left to mod discretion.
Please direct your shitposts to r/imaginarymapscj
8. No map generating tools or websites (excluding GIS tools)
Do not use websites/programmes like Mapchart or online fantasy map generators like Azgaar's or Inkarnate.
Don't use political/election sites such as 270 to win.
Do not just post screenshots from video games such as "Map Games"
9. Don't post more than once a day
Wait at least a day between posting maps on the subreddit.
If you wish to post multiple maps you can use Reddit's gallery feature to post them together, or pace your posts out.
Any map removed for breaking only Rule 9 may be reposted again the next day.
10. No maps about current, active or developing conflicts
No posting maps directly related to current, active or developping conflicts in real life. Exact relation to ongoing conflict is based on moderator interpretation whether the map is related to ongoing events or is based around older history.
Ongoing Conflicts currently includes:
Russian invasion of Ukraine
Palestine/Israel conflict
The Venezuela-Guyana situation
Active military coups
Other ongoing conflicts that arise over time
If you see these rules being broken, please report the violating post using the "report" button!
If your post has been removed for rule 3 and you want to know why, look here.

The future of our continent following the imminent federal collapse. These new states follow major watersheds, in an effort to localize conservation and resource management.
Lore:
1939-1941: Early War and Soviet Expansion
1939: World War II begins with Germany's invasion of Poland. The USSR, as per the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, invades Poland from the east, annexing the territories agreed upon with Nazi Germany. The Baltics (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania) are also annexed by the USSR, as in our timeline. 1940-1941: The USSR consolidates its control over the Baltics and eastern Poland. Meanwhile, Germany conquers much of Western Europe, including France, and begins its invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941 (Operation Barbarossa). 1942: Turning Points
The Allies, led by the United States and the United Kingdom, begin planning an early invasion of mainland Europe. The success of the North African Campaign and the defeat of Axis forces in Egypt and Libya allow the Allies to focus on Europe sooner than in our timeline. The USSR struggles against the German advance, suffering heavy losses but managing to hold the line at Moscow and Stalingrad. However, without the same level of respect or trust from the Allies, the USSR is seen as a secondary partner in the war effort. 1943: Allied Momentum
D-Day in 1943: The Allies launch Operation Overlord in 1943, landing in Normandy as in our timeline but a year earlier. The invasion is successful, and Allied forces quickly push into France. Italy, already weakened by the Allied invasion of Sicily, falls in 1943. The Italian government surrenders, and the country is split into two occupation zones: the North controlled by the Allies and the South by a provisional Italian government. Eastern Front: The USSR continues to fight Germany but is not given the same level of support or recognition by the Allies. The Red Army advances more slowly than in our timeline, and the Allies begin to outpace the Soviets in liberating Europe. 1944: Allied Advance and Soviet Marginalization
The Allies liberate France and push into Germany. By late 1944, Allied forces reach Berlin, capturing the city before the Soviets. This is a major blow to Soviet prestige and influence in post-war Europe. The Allies also liberate Czechia, further limiting Soviet influence in Central Europe. The USSR is left with only Poland and East Germany under its sphere of influence, as the Allies dominate the rest of Europe. 1945: End of the War
Germany surrenders in May 1945, and the Allies occupy the country. The USSR is largely sidelined in the post-war negotiations, as the Allies do not view it as an equal partner. The Potsdam Conference reflects this, with the USSR receiving far less influence and territory than in our timeline. The Treaty of Paris (1947) formalizes the post-war borders and settlements. The USSR is only allowed to annex the Baltics and its 1939 Polish territories, while Poland is compensated with Kaliningrad. East Germany retains Pomerania and Silesia, with minor adjustments to Poland. Post-War Treaties and Territorial Changes
Treaty of Paris (1947)
USSR: Annexes the Baltics (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and its 1939 Polish territories. Gains influence over Poland and East Germany but is otherwise excluded from Western Europe. Poland: Receives Kaliningrad but retains its 1940 borders. Loses some territory in the east to the USSR but gains compensation in the west. Germany: Divided into East and West Germany. East Germany retains Pomerania and Silesia, with minor border adjustments to Poland. Italy: Split into North and South, both democratic. France annexes the Genoa province, while Yugoslavia annexes Trieste and Udine. Yugoslavia: Expands its territory by annexing Szeged (from Hungary) and parts of Italy (Trieste and Udine). Greece: Gains Southern Bulgarian Thrace and Northern Epirus. Romania: Restored to its pre-WW2 borders. Liechtenstein: Annexes Vorarlberg from Austria.
Checks and balances were never incorporated because the United States Madison and Hamilton spoke loudly against checks and balances; they eventually convinced the framers to let it go.
Madison saw the War of 1812 as an opportunity to seize Canada, and without institutional constraints, the U.S. annexed the entire territory in a near decisive victory.
This union was fractured from the start—governing such a massive, culturally divided land proved impossible. The instability only grew, with economic disparities, regional rivalries, and political factionalism tearing at the seams of the American “republic.”
The Civil War wasn’t just North versus South—the Union’s overreach meant that secessionist movements took hold across the continent—Quebec, the Maritimes, California, and the western frontier all demanded independence and fought alongside the initial secessionists, the Confederates.
In the aftermath, the U.S. government, overwhelmed and bankrupt, agreed to an uneasy peace that permanently divided the continent.
With Washington unable to exert control, successor states emerged, each shaped by the political, cultural, and military conflicts of the past decades. North America would never be the same.
I haven’t made much lore yet. But it’s basically if China was never formed and the countries on the map are influenced by China.
