I had a really fun time painting this one. Inspired by an Ed Hardy tattoo and The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai, i decided to mash them up and add bubbles, glow paints, iridescents, acrylic, and spray on a stretched canvas. I'm still adding some finishing touches it 😀
Here’s the synopsis in case anyone’s curious:
Veyla never asked to be a clone of an ancient, advanced, now-extinct race known as the Primordials, but here she is: newly awakened, slightly confused, and apparently tasked with saving six whole planets. Typical things for a seventeen year old, right? Oh, and let’s not forget the malfunctioning, world-regulating AI called AION who’s supposed to be keeping things in order, but instead has decided that magickal beings are a little too much of a risk, so, as a result, is now pursuing them with ruthless precision with an army of combat bots. Of course it’s up to Veyla to fix that, too. Perfect.
Armed with a blend of tech and magick (and, let’s be real, a fair amount of guesswork), Veyla sets out to restore balance across these artificial planets called Nodes, because, apparently, that’s just what you do when you’re the Starelic. But the path to saving the solar system isn’t exactly straightforward. Between unlocking the mysteries of her past, honing magick skills she didn’t even know she had, mastering her Starelic mode, reactivating some long-forgotten planetary portals, and fighting off bloodthirsty bots along the way, there’s a lot on her plate. As if that’s not enough, she’s also responsible for gathering abandoned AI cores scattered across the planets to plug back into AION — oh, and preventing a meddlesome friend-turned-enemy from creating a magickal monopoly on her planet and hunting down and destroying AION completely, rather than helping Veyla fix their one shot at keeping the Nodes from falling apart. It’s like the universe handed her a chore list, but instead of “fold the laundry and wash the dishes,” it’s more like “outrun homicidal robots and stop cute girls from setting everything on fire.”
Joined by a ragtag bunch of unlikely allies, Veyla will need to use every ounce of wit, courage, and natural optimism she’s got if she’s going to succeed, not to mention she’ll need to learn to rely on others and trust their collective strength to overcome all obstacles. Sure, there are ancient magickal chambers to activate and looming ecological disasters to stop, but no pressure. After all, what’s the worst that could happen?
Can Veyla crack the code to saving the planets, or will AION’s temper tantrum send the whole system spiraling into chaos? At least she’ll get some great stories out of it…if she lives to tell them, that is.
