    Gu-Š-55 (First generation jet fighter)

The Gu-Š-55 also designated the Gu-Sh-55, short for Guronx Šox-55/Guronkh Shokh-55, or Guronkh jet-55, was developed first from early turbojet engine design from the earlier Gu-Š-54, which itself was a turbojet configuration of the Gu-G-53 fighter, but the Federal Republic of Gaurma. The Gu-Š-55 used the more powerful Am-So-3 turbojet engine, which gave out 13 kN over the older less reliable JD-So-2 the gave out just 8 kN, which the Gu-Š-54 had two of.

The Gu-Š-55 entered testing in early 1942 however only entered service with the Gu-Š-55A variant in late 1943. Only 430 Gu-Š-55As were built, although only 140 had been ordered for Gaurma’s aircraft, the remaining 290 units were sold to other nations like Eskida and O’orma which lacked such advanced jet technology. Larger nations like Kechnakowa, and Urma had their own jet fighter program and didn’t need to buy the Gu-Š-55A. Later the nation of Molka would buy 30 Gu-Š-55B variants, before starting their own jet program in earnest. There was a final Gu-Š-55C variant made in 1948 before the Gu-Š-56 was developed to replace the Gu-Š-55.

A total of 780 Gu-Ś-55s were built, mostly export units. Only about 26% of Gu-Š-55 units served Gaurma. The Gu-Š-55 served till 1966, even being seen on both sides of the 1954-58 Gaurmay-Shirikhan. Although they were very outdated by the late 1950s, the empire of Shirikha still had some units. However in Gaurma’s case, they used their Gu-Š-55s as jet trainers, preferring the Gu-Š-56 and the newer Gu-Š-57.

Most nations that came out as allies of Gaurma after the 1954-58 Gaurmay-Shirikhan, still used the Gu-Š-55, such as Peran. Though in 1966 the Gu-Š-55 was eventually retired from active service. No units survived to the 2000s, however a replica was made in the 1990s and displayed in Gaurma’s capital at the time, Šxi’iro.
