3-Gun shooting events are practical shooting events where the stages are shot with a combination of a rifle, handgun, and shotgun. Matches generally involve courses where the shooter must move through different stages, and engage targets in a variety of different positions. Each stage will generally require the use of different weapons and require the shooter to transition between different firearms.

Good AR optic for 3gun?

I am just getting into 3 gun shooting and currently just have a basic red dot on my rifle. Looking to get something new that can be used across a wider range of distances and is fairly durable without blowing my budget.

I was thinking of getting an Sig Tango but curious if there are other recommendations out there worth looking at?

Any advice on making a portable training course?

I just got into three gun (first event last sunday) and I was interested in ways to practice between events. My friend and I have five gongs and five poppers and are looking at grabbing some silouettes and a small spinner.

The idea is being able to throw this stuff in a pickup and set up a tiny course in public land that we already shoot at. I was wondering if:

  • anyone here has already done this?

  • budget alternatives to expensive/large targets like texas stars?

  • how do you set up shooter boxes and places to drop/pick up guns?

  • cheapest place to get cardboard targets (or do you just cut them out yourself?)

What do you recommend starting to look for equipment to participate in 3 gun matches?

I am very curious about getting a long rifle and shotgun to participate in 3 gun matches. What would you recommend for rifle and shotgun? Already have a pistol in each main caliber except 10mm, 357 sig.

How to make 3-gun exciting?

This is an open, brainstorming session as I'm entering the tail end of my deployment.

I've seen various posts about how 3-gun isn't exciting as a spectator, which I can understand.

But how can it be more exciting then?

What can I, as an aspiring content creator, do to help the sport?

Best place to live in US for 3 gun?

I live in New England and our options are bleak up here. Pretty much I only have access to 8 matches a year, four at CPFGC and four at Pemi (though now that’s only 2-gun. No shotguns -_-). That’s best case scenario, often there are not enough volunteers so the matches get canceled, such as at CPFGC next weekend. I intend to move out of the Northeast soon and I got a lot of options. So I’m wondering, is there an area of the US that would be ideal, in terms of access/distance/frequency of 3 gun matches? Assuming I could move anywhere. I want to be running matches AT LEAST monthly, ideally more frequently. I have family in Minnesota and know they do the multigun nationals every year there so this is a too contender for me, but that’s just one competition.

Suggestions for my load out.

Alright gent's looking for suggestions on what shotgun to get. I'm and advid long range shooter, AR guy, started getting into pistols a few years back, now I'm looking at what shotty to rock. I have a stock glock 19 gen 3 I'm running as my side arm, main is a ruger 556 moded with flip up sights. I'm not sure what an affordable option for a shot gun would be to complete my set up. Any suggestions?

Looking to get into 3 gun

Hello, I'm sure that its been a question asked a million times so forgive me but I'm looking to get some gear to get into 3 gun. I am looking to shoot 3 gun in my local club that has a "carry optics" division. I'm sorry for such a long post, if not allowed, I will delete.

"Carry Optics (Handgun): Handguns must be of a factory configuration. Internal modifications are allowed provided they do not alter the original factory configuration. One non-magnified optical or electronic sight may be mounted on the slide (non frame mounted) between rear of slide and ejection port. Magazines shall not exceed 170 OAL for single stacks, and shall not exceed 140mm OAL for staggered magazines. Compensators or barrel porting are NOT allowed in this class.

Carry Optics (Rifle): Same as Tactical other than only a bipod no longer than 20 inches may be attached to the rifle. 6.2c Tactical (Tac Optics): Rifles must be of a factory configuration. Internal modifications are allowed provided they do not alter the original factory  configuration. Tactical rifles may be equipped with no more than one (magnified or non-magnified) optical sight (iron and popup sights are allowed). Rifle supporting devices (ie Bipods, bags, etc.) are not allowed in this class. Rifle may have a compensator that is no more than 1” in diameter and 3” in length.

Carry Optics (Shotgun): Shotgun must be of a factory configuration. Internal modifications are allowed provided they do not alter the original factory configuration. One electronic or optical non-magnifying sight is allowed. Supporting devices (ie Bipods, bags, etc.) are not allowed. Compensators on barrels is not allowed, porting on barrels is allowed. No shotgun in Carry Optics class may be loaded with more than 13 rounds prior to the buzzer. Magazine length may not be changed for the duration of the match. Detachable magazines are not allowed in the class."

I've ran a couple USPSA pistol matches already, so I'm semi familiar with the competition scene. I am currently running a Canik Rival SFX with a holosun 507comp and T1C Optio holster on the way, a CMMG MK4 AR-15 with a red dot/magnifier, and a Mossberg Maverick 88. As well as a battle belt with 3 pistol and 1 rifle mag pouch.

I am currently looking at a beretta a300 ultima patrol for a new shotgun as well as a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 LPVO for my AR. I don't have a huge budget but I am willing to hear your recommendations.

TL;DR Looking for a entry level 3 gun set up lol.

Pistol suggestions?

My current loadout as I prep to dip my toes, that 940 JM pro series is good to go, that AR has basically a whole new uppers worth of parts coming, and for now I’m gladly going to run my M&P 4” compact, as it’s the only pistol I got. Looking for suggestions, but any reason not to go with the 5 inch Canik Rival? Seems to be the big winner for a baller on a budget.

Kansas City

Looking for clubs and ranges in the area that are OPEN to new members.

I’ve reached out to one club and was told I had to be sponsored by a member, unfortunately I’m a transplant and therefore don’t know anyone lol.

Also, I’m a member of GOA, overwhelmingly seeing NRA membership as a requirement, any insight here?

Thanks!

Suggestions for budget 3gun uppers

👋 Hey! I am looking to get into 3 gun in the Kansas City / Wichita area, and I am looking for suggestions for uppers for a lower I have, without draining my budget for some other odds and ends to break into the scene. A couple questions.

  1. Is 18” still the standard for 3 gun rifle barrel length?

  2. what are some good upper suggestions from companies like Palmetto state and the like?

Thank you guys.

Side note: anyone in my area??? Hit me up!

Hi from the UK

Hi!

Hoping someone on here might be able to give advice. I'm just starting out in PSG (we can't really do 3-gun in the UK...) and looking to get my first shotgun for it. I am a leftie (and on a tight budget) so I've seen a Benelli SBE 2 advertised that I'm wondering if it would do the job?

Trying to find the differences between that and the M2 (which really doesn't come up for sale often or at the same price point as this SBE 2) and all I've currently got is that the SBEs have a 3" chamber.

Anyone shot an SBE 2 and could advise? 😀 Alternatively, I'm looking at getting a Stoeger M3K for about the same money, and just suck it up with it being right handed controls - I'm not planning to start double/quad loading any time soon anyway because of the loading belts would set me back almost as much as the Stoeger 😅

Thanks in advance! Chris

Shotgun box mag solutions?

I get that I'll be in the open division.

I'm going to be running my BP-12. I currently have two 5 rd mags and plan on getting two 10 rd mags.

My predicament is:

Too long for mag pouches?

Are couplers legal in the open division?

Flip to side mount options

I have a Sig Romeo/Juliet5 combo, which came with their own mounts.

I hate the push button system it came with though.

I've been looking around and the only options I see are $60-$250. When the magnifier itself is about $120.

What's a good bang for the buck mount?

carrier release?

im just getting into 3gun. can someone tell me what the point is of a carrier release on a shotgun?

i understand what it does- releases a shell from tube, then you have to rack it to chamber a round. but why do some shotguns have this? im sure i just dont understand, but it just seems like an unnecessary extra step to me

In the zone today! (FMTIC)

Ran a solid 2 hour carbine course today. (Carbine my weakest platform) Feeling smug, I got home, posted a quick sweaty IG update on my shiny new Tab S9 Ultra and let it drop on the sling. Except I don't have a sling on my tablet. My $1200 brand new tablet. Polished concrete floor. Nuff said

Newbie Optics

Just getting into the sport and was wanting a few recommendations.

  1. LPVO with red dot.* Good or bad idea?
  2. If using above do you prefer to mount it above the optic or 45 offset?
  3. Red dot itself. Bigger or smaller moa dot for this use purpose?

*currently thinking I am going to run a 1-6 Burris rt6 with a smaller moa red dot offset.

Use case: local multi-gun comps (nothing major) and similar gun and gun events. I’m trying to make this setup somewhat budget friendly considering all the other shooting sports I sink money into.
