Has anyone attempted this successfully for this specific model recently? If so please give me the juice. Thanks.
I have a nook from 2011 that is no longer supported by B&N. I got it second hand and it is logged into a strangers account. If I reset the device, will I still be able to created a new profile and download books from sites like Libgen onto it? Thank you!
Did anyone figure out how to change/hack the screensaver/sleep cover on the nook glowlight 4 plus?
I have a damaged screen on an OG Nook Simple Touch Glow, model number BNRV350. Where can I get a direct screen replacement?
hi! i am selling my lightly used nook glowlight 4 with case and charging cable.
timestamp: https://imgur.com/a/z9c4cQJ asking $75 shipped CONUS only or best offer.
thanks!
Just got an old Glowlight BNVR510, the one with the slightly textured screen, supposedly waterproof, brand new in box.
The form factor is great. It feels very tough and I like the flat face. The only nook I've liked more was my original simple touch (should never have given it away).
With this one, though, I'm having a very hard time getting it to connect to anything via USB - Mac, Windows, Linux.
My other nook (glowlight) connects readily, but this one barely shows up.
Are there tricks or drivers to get this model to work?
thanks much
I had a boox device for the past 3 weeks and I'm thinking about purchasing the nook glowlight 4 plus again? Reasons tbh nothing come close to the nook built & usage even Dough the software slower it's an amazing device I wish I never returned it. Anyone else have other ereaders but still use the nook almost daily?
Between keeping my Kindles, I’m selling my GL4 Plus and Kobo Libra Colour as bundles (each come with their respective case and the Kobo has the additional stylus) on eBay! I can send you the link or we can negotiate a price. Just want them to go to a good home. They are both literally brand new and I only used each for maybe a month.
I put a 3rd party launcher on a Glowlight 4 Plus and installed Libby so I could use it directly. The process was quite easy however the app is quite laggy and glitchy. The lag seems to be worse than what is normal for an eink display and it will lock up on a page sometimes and only a reboot gets out of it.
My Nook glowlight (retired) says that it needs to connect to the network to de-register before being reset to factory settings. I think this connection functionality was removed when it was retired, so now I'm stuck. Any advice on how to wipe the Nook before I donate it? Thanks!
I've had various nooks for over a decade and loved them. I want a new eInk reader device but there's enough competition that I'm wondering if I should look at alternatives? I've read a lot of bad reviews about the current nook Glowlight 4 Plus. I like the features of the new Kindle Colorsoft, could be cool to have color. But I really don't want to leave my BN book library behind if I want to re-read something (and no, reading it on my laptop or phone with the app is not a good option, hurts my eyes on those screens).
At the very least, I wonder if I leave the nook ecosystem should I go to something agnostic that doesn't lock me into one particular store like kobo, boox, remarkable. But frankly I don't even know for sure where do you buy books from on those devices? Do they have regular android so I can just install the nook/kindle apps?
Please help with advice.
I have an old Glowlight that is on the retired devices list. Is it possible to trade this in at any B&N, or do I have to call my local store and see if they will accept it? I have no more use for this device, as I was able to get all of my books onto an iPad mini. I don't care too much about credit (although any would be nice); I just want to make sure that it is properly disposed.
Apologies if this has been answered in this subreddit already. I tried looking through old posts, but there did not seem to be a consensus. Thanks!
EDIT: OK, I was able to side-load the newest version of the Nook app that her tablet can take and now the apps are working again, but its only showing 20 books in her library but I know she has probably triple that because I can see them on the BN website.
Any idea how I can get all of her books to show so she can download them and read them?
Hello,
My mom was having some issues with her Galaxy Tab 4 7" nook where the Nook Store wouldn't load. She could still read what she had downloaded but not download or buy anything else.
I attempted to clear the cache of the Store app, but that caused a bigger issue. Now, its prompting me to sign into her Nook account (which I expected) but when I put in her email and password it just opens the WiFi connection screen. I'm already connected to WiFi, so I hit next, and it takes be back to the Nook login screen. If I hit "Log In" again, it takes me back to WiFi. This continues in an infinite loop.
I know her books are safe in her account (we can see them in her digital library on the BN website) but now she can't read them because I cannot get signed in to the Nook apps.
She has the Nook app on her S24, but only 18 of her books show up in the library in that app and she has WAY more than that. We can see them on the website.
I ended up factory resetting the tablet but these issues persist. I even went as far as to install Samsung Smart Switch to try and do an Android update on the tablet but its already fully up to date.
I was worried maybe this tablet was end of life, but this is still a supported model according to BN's website so I shouldn't be having these issues signing in.
I'm worried I've lost her access to her purchased books. I'm sure if she bought a new Nook things would work fine, and I know she wants a new one anyway. But I would like to get this one working again in the meantime.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hey all! I saw that Kindle just released a color e-reader. Do you think there will be a color Nook in 2025 to compete? What are the chances?
After the most recent software update the WC and PT showed up next to the reading time estimate. I thought at first it could be word counts and page turns, but the numbers are way to high and don't change book-to-book
Can y'all help me with this!!):
I have a tendency to lose track of time while reading so it would be nice if was a way to see the time while reading.
From my parents it’s so pure 🥺💖
For me, from me. 🥰 … used my birthday money and treated myself to the newest Nook. Okay how hard is it to navigate? lol it’s charging as we speak but I’m super excited to open my first Nook.
I have the Nook app on my phone and I was just reading an e-book that I purchased when all of a sudden I flipped a page and this white highlight started to appear behind the text. It started half-way down the page and it continues throughout the rest of the book even though the first 30 pages have normal text with no highlight.
(For clarification, on page 31 halfway down the page the white highlight behind the text starts and continues throughout the book but pages 1-30 have completely normal text).
I had the app in dark mode at first so when the white highlight appeared it was hard to read (because in dark mode the text was a light grey). I figured out how to switch the theme to a cream colored background so I could at least read it, but the highlight makes the text kind of ugly and it makes reading displeasing - which sucks because I was really excited to read this book. Has anyone had this problem before and/or does anyone know how to fix it?
(I checked my notes/annotations/highlights and there are none, I thought I might've accidentally created one somehow but it says I have none across all my books).
I recently decided, after years of consideration, to move away from Kindle because of its strict attempts to lock you in, its ability to sort-of support EPUB, but in a limited way, and of course just to get away from Amazon.
I actively do no want color e-ink, so I was left with going to the Kobo Clara BW. I will be happy with this device for its battery life, smaller screen for portability, and so on, and the new, more open ecosystem. But I am coming from a Kindle Oasis. I love the turn buttons—the flush screen too, but that’s negotiable.
So, I’m in a weird place where, from a hardware POV, the Nook is my ideal device. And last year I joined B&N premium for my book buying needs, since they package books at least half-decently, unlike Amazon. But I also know the Nook’s software is lackluster, and I’ve heard Nook is an even more extreme attempt at a walled garden in terms of file format and DRM.
Is there any conceivable reason to acquire a Nook? I like the idea of reading the free Nook book every month on a Nook, and using my premium account to get discounted ebooks. But again—the whole reason I left Amazon was because of ecosystem concerns.
Any thoughts welcome!
I keep pressing them by accident
About a year ago I bought a Nook Simple Touch 3 off ebay for all of like $8 I think. When it arrived, I quickly realized that it wouldn't hold a charge for more than a couple of days, even with no usage, which I figured was normal considering it never had a battery change in it's 10+ year life.
Just recently, it died so much I was unable to even get it to respond to being charged (several months without use). So I went on ebay and bought a new battery for it, installed it, and it booted back up fine, and was able to charge fully fine.
I figured the new battery would allow me to get several weeks of idle at a time, given e-ink screens draw basically no power, but unfortunately that's not the case. Probably a week after installing the new battery and charging fully, the nook still draws down power to 0% and won't respond to clicking the button, and will only change the screen once it's plugged in again and gives the typical "Your NOOK's battery charge is too low to power on" screen.
What should the typical idle battery life be for a ST3 with a new battery? Surely it should be at least a couple of weeks no? Are there things that are running in the background grabbing battery? I've turned off wifi, I can't think of anything else that would be drawing substantial enough battery to kill it within a day or two at idle.
Am I able to plug it into my computer and drag / drop to side load epubs?
I just bought a Nook GlowLight 4 Plus. I’ve been reading heavily and thought it would be a fun purchase. However, I’ve learned that I can’t find the books that I want to read. This is kind of frustrating since I can find all of the physical books in Barnes and Noble and some of the books are available in the Nook store but in a different language. Could I buy the book elsewhere and download into my Nook? Or am I stuck with the Nook store library? I’m a brand new e-reader and I know the kindle has great reviews, but I wanted the Nook because I didn’t want the kindle adds etc. I appreciate any advice or tips I can get. TYIA!!!
What is the state of B&N? Give us your perspective!
First, I do not work for B&N, but I have been a long time customer. I’ve supported B&N since the early 2000s. The brand has had a lot of ups and downs but has managed to survive.
The Nook business seems to be a shell of its former self. B&N could do better on the software front as it has lagged substantially over competitors. I believe a Nook with a colored EInk display would increase appeal for Nooks. I mean, folks could read magazines and comic books in color while enjoying the EInk benefits. A lot of brands have gained traction over the last couple of years through the sale of EInk tablets IE Boox and Kobo.
So what are your thoughts on B&N? Is there any hope for the Nook brand? Let me know below!
Wanting to put the book app on my Galaxy Tab A but it doesn’t show in the Play store. Is there something I’m missing? I can’t find any info saying it was discontinued.
I used some white duck tape and an exacto knife. It worked really good and doesn’t look that bad. If you use peel and stick vinyl it would probably look better. But yeah, just an easy and quick solution to fix the sticky and worn out edges on your nook simple touch!
