If i flash a rom will i retain otg functionality?
Can someone give me a firmware JELLY BEAN or the oldest firmware to downgrade my Nexus 7 me370t I searched everywhere on google I can't find
A couple of weeks back, I read posts on this forum about updating from the Official Nexus 7 (2013) image, and most recommended LineageOS 18.1, e.g. https://redd.it/15x0r5m. I checked the LineageOS 18.1 download link given in that thread, and I could have sworn that there was a downloadable image, but I can't find it now.
Has anybody got a link?
Hi I use my tablet only at my desk so I wanted to leave it plugged in all the time but didn't want to ruin my battery. Since ACCA is not working is there any alternative anyone can share? Thanks.
I have read that even Lineage wont help me much since this model is weak and too old; Id like to flash it so I can use it to browse wikipedia and stuff like this, so web browsers mainly. Is it too much to ask with this device ?
Went from 41% yesterday evening to 51% now, the tablet did not charge in between. Why? Could it be a sign the battery is dying ?
Is it worth bothering reviving it, maybe with an alternative OS ? (Linux stuff ?) it seems buggy and slow now if I can even manage to boot in the first place. Also would there be a spicy pillow problem with the battery since its so old now ?
My first tablet of any ecosystem was the original Kindle Fire. I rooted it and put Android 3.x on it. I ran into storage limitations and ended up going back to stock and un-rooting it.
In 2012, I was very stoked to get the Nexus 7 2012. It could do everything I needed and perfect size. That was until Android 5.x. Need I say more? I shelved it after that. It was a good 2 year run. I felt like I wasted my money to only use a tablet for 2 years.
I have always been an Apple iPhone user but never jumped on the iPad bandwagon because of the high price point. After my distaste for the Nexus 7 2012 after the Lollipop fiasco, I begrudgingly went with iPads. I got an iPad mini 2 and then sold it 2 years later to get an 2018 iPad. I am still using the 2018 iPad.
I was cleaning out my closet 2 days ago and found Nexus 7 2012 collecting dust. I put it in a pile to electronically recycle next week. As a last ditch attempt, I started googling to see the resale price of Nexus 7 2012. I stumbled upon a YT video showing Nexus 7 2012 running Android 7.1.2 without any lag that drove me crazy using Android lollipop. I was in disbelief. In 2019, as a last ditch attempt to not give up on Nexus 7 2012, I had put it back to Android 4.4.4. It ran well and no lag but it couldn’t run any streaming apps I use on my iPad so I threw it back in my closet.
I have the Nexus running on 7.1.2 with all my streaming apps (Plex, Jellyfin, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, Movies Anywhere, Fandango at Home, YT, YTTV).
I am working on getting Disney+/Hulu working but doesn’t look hopeful.
But I am just stunned that it’s 2024 and 12 years later, I can run 98% of what I want to run on Nexus 7 2012!
Update: I installed magisk and set that all up to “hide”. I just got Hulu and Disney+ working which Nexus 7 is supposed to be unsupported device for Disney+/Hulu.
Update 2 (after 12 days use): I am still quite satisfied with how I was able revive a 12 year old Nexus 7 2012. I would like to add that once I added the apps I wanted to try and use (basically the streaming apps I mentioned already), you must disable the “enable auto update” option for those apps. There’s no guarantee that future revisions of the apps that are working right now for Android 7.1.2 will continue to function adequately for nexus 7 2012. Timing is everything as they say. So I have disabled auto update for every Google play app and hoping that will keep this nexus 7 2012 with Android 7.1.2 running for a while.
Build number MOB30X (I think this is a 2013?)
It has android 6.0.1 on it.
The play store says "Server Error". I breifly got it to load but all the app updates failed.
Same after factory reset.
I want to get Home Assistant on it so I can use it as picture frame.
Can I load an APK or anything to get either the play store going or Home Assistant?
I have an identical nexus that runs Home Assistant just fine so I know it can do it. But I think it might depend on newer chrome etc. So I think getting play store ticking is important.
What are my options? Can a different OS be put on?
Hello,
My N7 is working great as an ebook reader but the case is falling apart. Any suggestions for a case replacement?
I think I have the original N7... How can I find out?
Thank you
it doesnt show up as a device even though usb debugging and mtp is on.
As per the title. I've got as far as step 3 on the page below but I cannot install any other drivers as Windows 10 says it's already installed the latest/best driver version.
https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/flox/install/#unlocking-the-bootloader
If you don’t get any output or an error:
on Windows: make sure the device appears in the device manager without a triangle. Try other drivers until the command above works!
I'm completely stuck as to what to do now. The Device Manager shows "Android" and "Base System Driver" with a yellow triangle when I get the Nexus into Fastboot Mode. Any ideas what I can do to fix this please?
Anyone tried divestOS on the 2013 nexus 7? Just ordered one off eBay and was hoping to install since I saw it was supported but on XDA it says that there’s an issue with it rebooting was just trying to see if anyone has had this experience on the rom else I’ll try another. Also Any de-googled roms recommended for N7 that perform fine and are maintained?
I'm looking at using my still working Nexus 7 (2013) as a GPS in my car. It's not rooted and the bootloader is unlocked. I can flash LinageOS without issue and boot into the OS. However, screen rotation doesn't work and GPS navigation is strange. So I thought I'd go back to the start with stock and see how that goes.
I've downloaded the stock image from Google, flashed the bootloader via fastboot, rebooted, then flashed the .zip.
However, unlike LinageOS, it'll just sit at the Google boot animation and not progress further. I'm sure the tablet is fine since LinageOS boots, so why won't a stock ROM boot?
How to fix it? Already tried reset, clear cache.
Thank you!
A few days ago I updated my stock Nexus 7 2012 Wifi (Grouper) to Android 7 using this guide:
https://xdaforums.com/t/rom-7-1-2-grouper-unofficial-lineageos-14-1-2021-03-13.4112431/
Everything went smooth, until the very last part, where I couldn't follow some of the instructions regarding the Magisk app, but I don't really think those were important. The tablet works fine, it runs fairly smooth for a 12 year old device, but the battery just drains overnight. During normal use, it lasts really fine considering it's original and the tab is unopened, but the moment I put it to sleep, it drains drastically.
The first night I upgraded the tablet, let it sit at night with 90% battery remaining and it was completely dead by the morning.
The second night, I left it with about 73% and it was at 50% next morning, much better, but still a lot of consumption compared with other devices I fiddle around.
Any recommendation for me?
TIA, it is amazing to see such an active community on such aged and amazing device. I had mine since it came out, can't let it just die, this thing took me through university.
I found my nexus 7, and I used to have a lot of app games on it and deleted them all bc it was running so slow. I want to use this as a display for my outlook calendar (which the outlook app isn’t supported for this? But I got something called PWA and it’s similar to the outlook app?) I have no idea what I’m doing.
The battery is pretty dreadful too but I can keep it plugged in 24/7. I just want a display of my outlook calendar on 24/7 bc my adhd brain would really like constant visuals of what I need to do/reminders in my face.
Is there a way to get this thing to not go into sleep mode either? I feel like it gets so much worse when it goes to sleep.
And I feel like it’s constantly downloading things from the internet in the background and that’s also why I deleted apps, I tried to find any type of permissions in the settings too to have it stop constantly trying to download things but can’t figure it out.
Any help would be appreciated tysm.
I have a Nexus 7 (2013) that's in decent condition but has become painfully slow so I'm looking to replace it. A handful of apps have also stopped working altogether ("no longer compatible with your device") despite everything being up to date, which is another issue I haven't been able to get around.
My priority for a replacement is that I will be able to transfer all the apps and data as seamlessly as possible, but as I don't have a lot of experience with Android devices I'm not sure how that works when going between different brands (as I will not be able to get a newer Nexus). Looking to spend ~$150 or less, any particular brand/model that would suit?
Hi,
Recently dug out my Nexus 7 1st generation tablet and tried to turn it on. No luck, but noticed that when plugged into charge the screen is lit up but nothing is displayed. I've had a look online and tried various things; holding power and volume down; holding down both volume buttons then plugging the device into power; removed the back to check the battery cable but all to no avail.
I just wondered if anyone else had any ideas? I think it could be a faulty battery but not convinced with this idea because the screen is lighting up. Any help appreciated.
i tried so many stuff other cables other ports even factory resetted the tablet but nothing
Anyone have a solution? Just like the title says...did a factory reset on my Nexus. Everything seemed fine. At the setup screen, I can select the language, and then I'm prompted with the select WiFi screen. I see my WiFi, type in the password, but it doesn't connect. It just says "saved". And I can't skip the WiFi setup. Anyone have a solution?
I have a 2013 model that I haven't used since 2015-2016 ish and I just want to get the pictures and videos off of it, anyways, the charging port is broken as in it wiggles inside, I used to use a wireless charger for it, the screen is broken at a place where part of my password is and lastly the battery used to not work if the device was not always plugged in, I'm currently trying to turn it on using my wireless charger but I keep getting the blinking light, it's been charging for about 10 hours and I'm still getting the blinking light and I gave up hope on the battery as it way already faulty in the past, so what's the best way to get the data out of the device without spending too much on fixing it? I think fixing the charging port is a must but I don't think I'm able to replace a battery because I don't live in the US and the device is quite old to have available parts, can I move the memory chip somewhere else somehow? Or is my last chance finding a new battery?
Hello,
I've been looking at saving some $$. Have a nexus 7 (with LTE) of course. Comparing standalone/portable Android Auto headunits it seems that i can probably use the nexus 7 with the Headunit Reloaded app.
I was just wondering if this can support dual bluetooth mode like the android auto chinese units can?
This way i can get the nexus to act as a display only and bypass the audio via my phone straight to my car's bluetooth?
Hope this works?
Thanks.
I got this tablet, and when I try to go to recovery mode it's not working (I want to reset all data), it just show the google logo with a padlock in the lower part of the screen (but shows the lock state: unlocked). I tried to use adb fastboot (using Nexus Root Toolkit 2.1.9), and it's not working too, I don't know if it's a problem with the cable or something else.
Edit: I forgot to say, this tablet was turned off a long time ago (maybe months), it is a used tablet.
I wanted to get a cheap tablet to run some emulators. Mostly gba. I found a nexus 7 online for 10 bucks in good condition. I was wondering if it's still usable in 2024? Is everyone running stock android?
Is that true? If so, any other alternatives?
