I'm Searching for a macbook pro m1, 32 gb, 1tb - Are there things I should look for, test out when I'm there? Would it be strong enough to work with unity on it? Next to some AI like midjourney I would also use it for dabbling around with game development. Price scale I can expect to be ok for this?

Hello everyone, I'm having this issue with safari and it's driving me nuts. Every time I open safari I have press fn+ctrl+f to get it to fill the whole screen. If I close it, it resizes it by itself to a smaller window and I have to manually change it every time I open it again. It only happens on safari, I tried other softwares and they "remember" the size I set them at when closing and reopening. Any help?

I’ve got a 2017 MacBook Pro with an i5 since its release, and I’ve never done a clean install of macOS. I know it’s probably a good idea after all these years, especially to keep things running smoothly, but I’d love to hear your advice on this.

What’s the best way to go about it? Should I use the recovery tool to perform a clean install, or is there a better way to return it to factory settings? I’m also curious if anyone here has done it and what pros you’ve noticed afterward—did it help with performance, battery life, or anything else?

I’m planning to hold off on upgrading until 2026 because I’m super excited for the OLED screens coming up, so I want to keep this machine in top shape until then.

I was playing a video game when i realized i couldnt use my mic anymore. So I go into my system settings and see the mic input's only option is the internal mic. No matter what I try, the input device won't even give my headset as an option to use for a new input device. It had never done something like this and I didn't change anything. Im worried because i have an important recording session in 2 days, and the built in mic will sound terrible. How do I fix this?

I tried force quitting a series of "Code Helper" programs. But because the list was too long, I couldn’t scroll or see the usual options like "Quit," "Force Quit," or "Cancel." I also couldn’t close the Activity Monitor, nor could I restart my Mac.

Currently I am using MacOS 15.0.1

My last resort was to use the "top" and "kill" commands in the terminal to end the Activity Monitor. It was such a frustrating experience!

When I Cmd+Tab onto the Slack app, it automatically opens a new window. For most other apps, in order to open a window, after Cmd+Tab'ing to the app, I have to Cmd+N or Cmd+0 or something like that, it doesn't automatically open a window. That's how I prefer to have things, because it's slightly annoying to Cmd+W the window that's automatically opened every time I accidentally Cmd+Tab onto the Slack app haha.

I was wondering if folks know how one might prevent this behavior. No worries if it's not possible, it's not a huge deal at all; I just thought I'd ask in case someone knows.

I got a new MBA M2 and put my icloud on etc. new notifs for msgs dont show the contact name but when you open the messages app, it shows the name. Contacts are synced properly across all devices as well.

My MBP 2014 didnt do this but I opened my old mac, it suddenly have that same issue too where contact name isnt showing on notifs.

Need help deciding macbook air m3 13 inch 16gb (new) £999 vs macbook air m3 15 inch 8gb (out of box but new) £899

I know for some its a no brainer because of the 16gb however i’m a basic user. However the hate that 8gb laptops are getting now is making me want to get the smaller screen and pay more.

I used the chflags command to hide a folder, and it removes it from Finder but it still shows up in a terminal - is there a way to completely hide it?

I want to play a game on my iPad that isn’t supported on the AppStore. In this instance, I’m launching a game on Steam to play on my iPad. I’m using a controller connected to MacBook to play the game on my iPad. Technically, what’s the difference between using SideCar and screen mirroring? Are both using Bluetooth with the same transfer speeds etc? Will the fps and refresh rate be the same on both methods? What’s recommended in this scenario?

I'm being forced to use OSX at my job and long story short I just fucking hate OSX shortcuts, they do not make a whole lot of sense to me and while some can be fixed easily with just swapping Command, Ctrl and Option, others are probably tougher to deal with, specifically app-specific ones, I use Intellij IDEs (multiple yes) and Chrome and these seem to require specific shortcut overrides of their own even with Karabiner.

As a side note, I most likely cannot use Karabiner to automatically remap everything, I can't have a pseudo-keylogger running in background.

My question is - can I somehow remap every key combination to Windows equivalent?

Second question: can I also export/import all my keybind settings in case I need to replace my mac machine?

Third question: if export/import is possible, can I download a ready to use preset somewhere (or a baseline one)?

Can’t get my Mac to load properly. Stuck on this screen. For context, this Mac is 10 years old, but recently used open core to upgrade to newest iOS. Was working great until the thing tried to upgrade again without backing up. Just want to be able to use my computer again. Any advice? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I've read and tried everything. All looks good on my computer as far as the artwork but just won't sync. I've restarted both laptop and phone. Re-imported my music from my backup to Music and tried again. Erased the phone (music only)and resynced. Same problem. What gives?

I’m a new Mac user so I’m still getting used to it. I was told that Pages automatically saves the changes in my documents and that its why it doesn’t have a “save” button. the thing is every time I close my document, it asks me if I want to save. It makes me nervous that I cant manually save and I have to close it to have the save prompt. The document I’m working on is a Pages document, If I edit it on my iPhone it is saved automatically, but this is not happening in my MacBook. Is there a way I can turn on the auto save option? Or does Pages actually have a Save button? I write novels so I really need to make sure all my changes are saved.
