FYI US441 closure Oct 4th

GSMNP - National Park Service to close 441 due to commercial vehicle noncompliance

“The National Park Service will temporarily close US 441/Newfound Gap Road tonight (10 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.) following an influx of illegal, large commercial vehicles through the park and after responding to two significant accidents overnight—one involving a car hauler that crashed into a wall and down an embankment, and one in which a semi-truck’s brakes caught on fire.

Commercial vehicles are always prohibited on Newfound Gap Road and in all of Great Smoky Mountains National Park (with the exception of the Spur). Newfound Gap Road in particular is not safe for large commercial vehicles—it is a curvy two-lane road with steep continuous grades.” - NPS

Classic car repair recommendations

Looking for a reputable business/individual who can work on older vehicles. I have an 85 K10 that’s needs some minor engine work and probably a transmission rebuild which is beyond my capabilities. I used to take my vehicles to a good ole boy in South Knox but he’s since quit working on cars so I need someone who knows their way around something that’s not fuel injected. Thanks!

Why did the Pride Parade start at 6:30pm?

The website very clearly says it was supposed to start at 7:00pm. I happened to arrive early and was able to catch it, but some of my friends missed it entirely! What happened?

Need medical oncologist recommendation

Please help! Looking for someone good who has a decent bedside manner. Why does it seem like the two are mutually exclusive? For breast cancer. Already had surgery and radiation and need someone I can trust with the next steps who will also treat me like a human.

Thank you Knoxville 🤍🌈

While we’ve had pride parades and events for many years, seeing the bridge lit up in rainbow colors tonight might be the most accepted I’ve felt in my time in this city so far even if it’s something small. It really means a lot.

Any after Knox Pride events going on tomorrow evening?

Unfortunately this year I have to work while pride is going on, but is there anything going on afterwards? Like anything at any bars or etc?

KTFCU…most problematic and inconvenient online banking experience!

Opened an account with my husband in June. I’m a teacher so he is the secondary account holder. Nothing but problems. Can’t log in randomly every week or so, system won’t validate my credentials, took over a week to validate accounts for bill pay and external transfers, $1500 daily limit on debit card purchase transactions, can’t use Zelle, and external transfers take 3-5 business days. Now they just “upgraded” their online banking system and now only one user can have an online profile—so only one of our profiles will remain active—so only one set of bill payment and external accounts are valid. AND WORSE, 2-factor authentication sends the text code to only one number—so if he wants to log in, I have to send him the code, because it will only send it to my phone!

We even got a better car loan rate at TVA. If you’re considering KTFCU, it’s not convenient in any way—it’s backward and antiquated. Not a modern banking experience at all.

And if you have a recommendation for a local bank or credit union that is modern and convenient, please share!!

Rib Ortho Doctor in Knoxville?

Might be a long shot but I figured I’d ask here. I was diagnosed with severe Costochondritis when I was 13 by an ortho doctor at TOC and spent the next 4 years after that just getting shoved steroids, tests, several other doctors that had no idea, and having procedures that didn’t help one bit. Gave up on the journey of trying to find the cause/a solution for the last few years and it’s gotten so much worse to where I can barely get out of bed. Anyone in here in the medical field that would have an idea of a doctor that would be worth trying? I finally have had it and want to get back to trying to find some information. TYIA

Fine people of East Tennessee, fear not. The Queen has arrived.

She pledged one million from her personal bank account. Her words, not mine. She has also pledged one million from the Dollywood family of companies. She said “these are my people. This is my home.”

In a world full of shit stains, be a Dolly Parton.

Are there any Realtors in Knoxville that'd do a 1-day touring agreement?

My GF and I are wanting to view 4 houses this weekend with a buyers agent - unfortunately the Realtor we've chosen is out of town. While we're not under contract with them, we intend to be. I am hoping to find an agent that can basically open doors in exchange for a one-time payment.

How Much Should I Pay a Babysitter?

My husband and I are attempting to find a part time babysitter for our 5 month old child. The coverage we need alternates: on 1 week, we need care Mon, Tue, Fri and the next week we need care on only Wed. We are thinking of posting fliers on college campuses near the child development buildings, and have no idea what a fair wage is and if this is a practical schedule. Any input or advice?

Thank you in advance! :D

Halloween Events

Hi! Essentially, I’m sober and I can handle being around alcohol but I was wondering if there were any 21+ events/parties around the weekend before or after Halloween that would be sober friendly? I have a costume that I’d like to wear and that I’m pretty proud of but nowhere to go and I don’t mind the family friendly events but I’d like to be around people my age just eating snacks and stuff. Thanks!

Child Custody Lawyer

So, i am on Lawyer number 2 for a child custody issue. Lawyer number 1 pretty much stole 10k off me and did not do the work. Met with her on a Monday, she listened to my story and said we need an emergency hearing and the child placed with you (me). Said paperwork done by Thursday, filed by Friday. 2 Months later, the paperwork still wasn't filed. Moved to lawyer 2. Seems hungry, seems sharp, an improvement over Lawyer one but still not doing what i need. She says the right things, but this situation has dragged on for months and i just don't think she gets it. So, i am looking for lawyer number 3. Does anyone have a great Lawyer that they used for child custody and would recommend? Looking for someone sharp, and someone who cares about their work.

Thanks in advance.

Gathering info. Looking for suggestions.

Howdy ho neighbors! Earlier this week I was served a notice of lease non-renewal for the apartment I’ve lived in for six years. My lease is up in less than two months. Normally I would just find a new apartment. However, I am planning to leave Knoxville next March. This means I need to find somewhere to live for four more months after my lease or find a new job and move now.

I’m working to put together a plan and I figured why not start with some word of mouth information. So what suggestions do you guys have?

Corn Mazes

Fall is here (sorta) and I want to do fall things. Namely, I wanna go get lost in a corn maze.

Anyone have some recommendations for corn mazes in the Knoxville area? Bigger and more complex the better.

How can I volunteer with my body, not a donation, to help this weekend?

I'm not able to contribute money to this, but I really want to help. I have a car and gas, but everywhere I look is just asking for donations to an organization.

I have a shovel, I can help with the mudslide damage if nothing else. Can someone help me volunteer with what I have?

Thanks.

Is there a safe route to Dollywood for this weekend?

I have friends telling me that all the roads are closed, but I’m seeing plenty of accessible ways to get there?

New Tire Rec

Looking to purchase tires from either Tire Barn (have gotten from before and super nice) or Discount Tire. I have considered buying from Tire Rack and having one of them install but I know discount tire also is owned by them. Tire barn says their warranty is easier than going through Tire Rack but not sure how accurate that is. Discount tire offers a certificate and still beats the price of Tire Barn but also they have some pretty rough reviews convincing me Maybe the less price isn't worth it. Looking for some personal experiences/opinions

Big South Fork Camping

If you are back country camping at big south fork, where do you park? I want to be able to park as close as possible to the river so that I do not have to hike too far to a riverside camping spot.

Anyone want to hang & show me around downtown Knoxville?

I’m a 23m, I’m only in town until tomorrow night but I have nothing to do as of right now. Would anyone be interested in hanging out with me?

Or can anyone give me some solid advice on what to do for someone who’s by them selves?
