Men in Cowboy hats targeting women?

I have lived in Tennessee my whole life. Went to school with plenty of young men who wore a cowboy get up and seen plenty at fairs shows etc over the years normally think nothing of it. Lately though I have been receiving a surge of reports (I'm pretty plugged in to the local scene and know a lot of people) of these men in attire similar to this gentleman acting creepy around women and smaller men who have a more feminine frame. This photo was taken at a grocery store in the Nashville area some locals may recognize it. This guy followed a young woman I am acquainted with  for 20-40 mins earlier this week before she eventually got so uncomfortable she asked a male staff member for assistance and shortly after this photo was taken the man was escorted out. If this was a one off situation I wouldn't bother asking Reddit, but it's became a trend this is like the 20th time I have heard a story like this in the past 6 months it's weird. I've seen probably about half as many photos and videos of such things and have been seeing a report from time to time on such subjects. I know our great state is the volunteer state so if anyone has any information on the matter please feel free to contribute. Are these guys affiliated with some trafficking scheme or some sort off group?  Cross posting to other Nashville subs in hopes of answers and spreading awareness

Roadtripping thru TN and heard great things. Any places to stop by, monuments or beautiful places to see?

A lady friend and I are driving thru. We like to see beautiful sights and monuments! Just typical travel things. Like in Denver there was Estes Park, hot springs, and garden of the Gods. Also a fun nightlife. We are taking a drive from CO, to KS, MO, TN, NC, SC, GA then home to FL. Just wondering what you would recommend roadtrippers visit in your beautiful state.

What would you recommend travelers see?

Elderly License Renewal

Just a very random question that I’m not finding much about online, my grandma had called be worried that she would need to take a test to renew her license now that she is 70 years old. Is this a thing in TN? And if so is it the same as a permit test? I’m trying to find her some type of packet to study as she seems very nervous about it.

Cultural and historic experiences

Hi All, Will be visiting Tennessee with my family of 4, kids are 4 and 1.5. We are going to be in Gatlinburg and Nashville for about 5 days each. Also a 1 night stop in Chattanooga. We would like to stop somewhere that offers a historical or cultural experience. Re-enactments, cook classes, walking tours, etc. We would like to do something hands on. Would be willing to go to something between the three cities we are visiting. Or within a reasonable day trip from the centers.

As an example when we were in Virginia last summer we went to Shenandoah Caverns. The cavern was cool but the facility also had a historic village that we could explore as well as a fun Gemstone Sluice for kids. My 3 year old had a blast and we enjoyed the village. I am sure we could have found something better, and closer to what would be truly Virginian.

So what experiences are there that show, and allow one to experience, true Tennessee culture and history?

Thank you,

Work for the state??

Does anyone work for the state human resources department or had a 2nd round interview with them? I’m waiting on correspondence for a 2nd interview. It’s a county position but hired and managed by the state. It’s okay if I don’t get one, but this position is my top choice. I want to give them enough time before I move on to a different opportunity.

Driving in tennessee (for a tourist)

Heading for tennessee in September for a holiday from Ireland. We are renting a pickup and are driving from nashville to pigeon forge and back.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any "odd" do's and don'ts for driving over there? I've drove in a few European countries but never in the US.

The main reason I asked is I seen a video where a cop pulled a driver for doing 5mph UNDER the speed limit. I have no idea what state this was in, but here you have to keep below the speed limit and as a rule of thumb don't be 15mph under.

I've also heard about some law about "keeping up with the flow of traffic" (also not sure what state) so basically, of the rest of the traffic is going above the speed limit, you need to do the same.

Also we are planning on doing half the trip on interstate then switch to back roads, then do the opposite route on the way back so we can see a good portion of rural tennese, is there anything on the way you'd recommend seeing? Any BBQ spots to check out?

Edit:

Thanks everyone for all the replies and great advice, I got a way bigger response than I expected! If ye are anything to go by, we'll have a blast on our holiday!

Best Zoo/Aquarium

Hi All,

Will be visiting from the East Coast of Canada in August. My kids, like most kids, love animals. Just wondering which Zoo/Aquarium is the best to visit. We would prioritize zoologist talks with animals, access to behind the scenes attractions, and private/small group tours and experiences. We are going to be in Nashville, Gatlinburg, and Chattanooga. We will only be going to one zoo or aquarium.

Thank you

I am visiting this week for the first time and my family loves karaoke. Are there any places that do karaoke every night? Or any specific spots and specific nights you can recommend? Thanks!

best place to live recs - early twenties, single, WFH

i’m about to be 23 and i work completely remote. i currently live in alabama, but i don’t love it here… just have kinda stayed here after school. i make good money (~70k) and am really really interested in tenneesee. and i’m not too big on the city aspect…. nashville or big city isn’t for me. i would love a place where it’s a lot of country, or pretty spread out, but with maybe a cute downtown area or close to somewhere that has some fun stuff to do. i’ve been recommended lebanon - what are your thoughts? anywhere else i might be interested in?

BBQ Near the AT in Tennesse

Hello, I am doing a long section hike of the Appalachian Trail and from Canada.

A big part of my town days has been trying regional foods. Mostly I want to eat BBQ in every Southern State on the AT.

I have eaten BBQ in Georgia and North Carolina and I am coming up on the smokeys soon.

Is Gatlinburg the best option for Tennessee? I would really like to try something authentic and it seems like a tourist trap that I might want to avoid so I'm open to suggestions.

Any suggestions for other regional foods? I have already sampled biscuits and gravy, country ham (amazing), collard greens (can't get enough of these and the pepper vinegar), spray cheese (surprisingly good) and cheerwine. Bear in mind I am from Northern Canada, anything southern will be novel to me, a lot of American stuff is too.

I would love some TN BBQ suggestions and BBQ and general "home cooking/ soul food" suggestions

A little help from anyone familiar with Cocke County

Hi folks,

I've recently been doing some research into my family history, and much to my surprise, I've some pretty deep roots in the Newport area. I was born and raised in Seattle, I've never been further east than Colorado, I don't know the area at all. I've found some directions to an old family cemetery and have been trying to make sense of them - following the route on Google Maps is a little confusing.

I was hoping to ask that if anyone who knew the area would mind taking a look at the directions I've received and see if they can make better sense of them. They are as such:

" This cemetery is located in the 7th District of Cocke Co. in the Manning Chapel/Bridgeport area. Take Hwy 25/70 east out of Newport and turn right at Bridgeport and cross the French Broad River. It's located at the site of the Old Elmer Lawhorn Coal Yard and on the leftside of the highway on a hill. Property was at one time owned by Elmer Cashen.

The directions are almost identical to the directions given to the John R Brooks Cemetery, which state: from Newport take Hwy 25/70 east and turn right at Bridgeport and cross the French Broad River. Go about 1/2 mile and turn left at the old Lawhorn's Coal Yard onto Goose Hollow Road. The cemetery is up this hollow on the old Clydus Brooks homeplace. This may be one large cemetery or very near it. Not sure if two separate cemeteries or not. See the burials in this cemetery at:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=2569274 "

If anybody would care to take a crack at it, or if anyone has other information, I'd be grateful.

Thanks!!

Aurora Borealis, where to catch a view?

I was out in Alcoa trying to catch a view but didn’t see anything from 12-2am.

Would closer to Knoxville, Neyland stadium again be a good spot?
