Hello from Nashville! My wife and I will be re-visiting Upper East Tennessee in December.

We have been up there countless times in the past 50 years, but we still have a list of year-round things we haven't done. We decided to visit in December and also catch some holiday things as part of our itinerary.

What about the Bristol Speedway lights?

The Internet says Jonesborough has some nice events in December.

A friend recommended Abingdon, but I'm underwhelmed by what I see and the events aren't updated for 2024.

Your suggestions? A great Christmas concert or pageant, perhaps on campus? A parade (Jonesborough looks pretty nice on this)?

I just wanted to give this info about the wait time to vote in Kingsport. I avoided it last week as the parking lots were packed on either side. I arrived yesterday at 10:33 and was back in my car at 10:57. 24 minutes start to finish. I let the crowd intimidate me a little last week and kept on driving, but yesterday I took the day off for an appointment so I could afford to wait. They have 8 poll workers checking folks in and the line moved pretty quick. Go Vote!

Hey guys I'm back! I made a post a few months ago about living in kingsport for work (mostly during the week) and it did really well. All of you were very helpful and informative and I've actually almost completed the list of what everyone suggested! I even visited one of the theaters down town in kingsport. I also saw a bear on the trail at bays mountain when I hiked up to the fire tower, that was wild.

This is my last week here before heading to a new project and everyone is leaving work early for halloween but I will be here because I have a little bit of work to do this weekend in bluff city.

I'm looking for something to do tomorrow evening, I figured that maybe there's a few events considering it's halloween? Maybe just some live music at a bar or something at least?

You guys killed it with suggestions last time, hit me again!

I had my first Birria tacos a few months ago at Diablo Mexican Grill in Johnson City, and I was blown away. But the restaurant is a little pricey, and also a bit of a drive. Does anyone know of any Mexican restaurants in Bristol that serve birria tacos?

I have mattresses and big Hefty Heavy Duty bags full of other miscellaneous garbage that I need to dump. The only place I can find is the Kingsport Landfill and they seem to have heavy restrictions on what you can and cannot dump. I'm worried the stuff in the bags (pillows, some household garbage, etc) won't be accepted there.

Are there other places I can dump large bags and mattresses?

If you still need pumpkins check out Laurels Pumpkin Barn in Johnson City. They’re not pick your own from a field but the barn is awesome and they have pumpkins of all kinds. They also have gourds, mums, straw and a small gift shop. Hours are Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri: 3-7, Wednesday: 3-6, Saturday: 10-6 & Sunday: 1-5.

Johnson City Atlantic Ale House is doing spooky storytelling every Thursday at 7:30pm this month. On the 25th they’re hosting a “haunted formal.”

Johnson City The Philosopher’s House is having a s’mores roast on the 26th from 6-8pm (marshmallows etc provided, $5 donation suggested).

Johnson City Little Magic Bar is throwing a Halloween party with $100 to the best costume on the 31st.

Johnson City Yee Haw has two more double feature movie nights at 5pm Oct. 30th they’re showing Beetlejuice followed by Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and on Oct. 31st it’s Goosebumps & Goosebumps 2.
