An Intro to BH's Discography by /u/justagrrlinny

I've been anticipating this night for a while. Got my galaxy lights in my room, and wanted to listen to an album straight through. Third time on shrooms, first timlisteninge to a BH album while doing it.
First thought is Bloom, but there are some songs that could be a bummer. I'm trying not to be too sad.
Depression Cherry I feel could be really beautiful. Just thinking of listening to Levitation while trippin' is giving me chills. (I know it's a sad song but I'll give it a pass).
I love Thank Your Lucky Stars.
I haven't listened much to 7. Am I missing out?
Teen Dream....I'll probably start bawling my eyes out when Walk in the Park comes on, and I don't want that sadness.
I see a lot of people on older posts have mentioned OTM with the lyric videos, but that has never been my favorite, but maybe it needs another shot.
Thoughts? Experiences?
EDIT: little over 2g of anubis. Started with Bloom. eyes closed for most of it. Really beautiful. hearing lyrics that seemed like they were written for people tripping on psychedelics, especially The Hours (Deeper than you and me ' It's farther than you could see / is it too much to ask? Tell me
It's all in a glance, you'll see) I appreciated that there was really no silence between songs. Was there birds chirping that connected songs? When listening so intently, the album really does sound like perfection. Like, how did these two not win every award possible for this album? So meticulously crafted.....I don't know their process exactly, but I imagined Alex on his computer just pouring over ever sound to make it as beautiful as possible (forgive me. It's entirely possible that V is there with him when they are putting finishing touches on it). UNFORTUNATELY , Alexa fucked up and stopped in the middle of Irene. GAHHH. Alexa would not cooperate and fucked up the vibe on the last song....
I had to fumble around and get youtube on the tv, and put on Depression Cherry. I really wanted to hear Levitation. "Branches of the trees..they will hang lower now. You will grow too quick...and you will get over it". It made me think of my sons and how much I love them, and hoping that as they grow, that they will continue to love me and not "get over it". (I've read the story behind this song, about dying and grief...but trippin' on shrooms...it just made me feel love for my sons)
So I closed my eyes and kept Depression Cherry playing. ...eyes closed...visuals of dancing colors growing and retracting tendrils...and the lyrics of Days of Candy..."I want to know you there
The universe is riding off with you" ...it just made me feel like Beach House was saying that when you die, it's okay...come join the Universe...we are here for you....I don't think I listened to this album in sequence before....so when I realized that was the last song...I thought it was an incredible artistic statement to end the album on...death...we go back to the universe. Kind of a somber thought, no? And that's the "depression" in depression cherry. (but I dont really think this album is depressing at all. It was really beautiful).
At some point in the mix. "Take Care" played...and I cried because really, when I break things down...I just really want someone to care about me. I want to take care of someone...I thought how special it is to have my sons that I care for so much...but I also want a "someone", an adult, a companion, that gets me and likes me and cares for me (I was fortunate to have my friend laying next to me. Her first time tripping on 1g). I felt lucky that in that moment, I had a friend that really cares for me.
It was strange, but it just felt like these songs were really powerful and soothing. I kept thinking that there was meaning to these songs that I have been overlooking all this time.
By this time, I was partially out of the trance, and able to talk to my friend about some things...we chatted about family...life...
She was coming down on her 1g, but I was still tripping on the 2.5g...some thoughts triggered and I got very emotional about unintentionally hurting someone months ago that I guess I'm still processing. Anyhow, this is the Beach House sub, not the shrooms sub, so I'll save it for another forum.
A+ 100% Beach House all the way. I would love there to be a way to thank them beyond buying their albums and merch. Their songs can really touch you and make you feel. In a world full of noise, they are truly something special.
I’m a newer producer and I LOVE beach house and their production, it’s so lush and pretty.
I was wondering there was an interview where the band goes into depth about their production process?
Or even if a fan has found ways to emulate what they do?
Thanks in advance
My tattoo for my favorite song, Master of None. I associate “jack of all trades” with cards, and I feel like that line resonates with me. I have two playing cards, an Ace with a heart and of course, a Jack. So I didn’t know that my tattoo post would strike such controversy! It was my first time posting on Reddit, and I wasn’t aware of the etiquette/rules. I’ve only been subbed to this forum for about half a year, and the first thing I had noticed about Reddit was how nice the communities are. However, some comments under my post were pretty mean and made me feel bad in a community for my favorite band. While I can see why it is a scandalous picture, I basically never post things like that, and I didn’t expect people to jump to conclusions about me promoting an OF because I didn’t know that that was a popular issue going around. There were also random accusations of me being a poser? Which I find uncalled for and unnecessarily rude. I wanted to post this close up picture and the full body shot because I wanted to show the details and also where it was on my body. However, I didn’t know how to add multiple pictures, and the full body shot was a picture that I had liked and felt good about previously. I apologize for any upset this may have caused, but I’m not usually a poster and I hope that I can listen to Beach House without being reminded of the controversy on my tattoo post haha.
From a NME April 2012 issue
Hello Folks! I am currently taking a corporate finance class (god help me), and for my final project I was tasked in valuing an artist’s music catalogue. As your may have assumed, I chose to value Beach House :) That being said, I am struggling to find lots of statistics regarding their vinyl sales, streaming numbers, listener growth, etc. I thought I would ask all of you for help, it would mean a lot!
Things that would be helpful:
-Any knowledge about their streaming stats (I am trying to calculate the total amount of streams they received in 2023 on all platforms)
-Sales numbers for physical units, preferably in the past year
-Knowledge about their deal with record label SupPop (how much of a cut SupPop takes, etc)
-Even old Spotify screenshots from last year, 2 years ago, etc that shows how their monthly listener count has changed over time would be super helpful. I have no historical data points (I need to calculate an average growth rate for them, especially in last few years where they have grown significantly)
-Any knowledge on the revenues artists in general (or BH) make off of a vinyl or CD sale (I have a good idea for streaming revenues).
-Any other info that could be useful in valuing what BH’s catalogue is worth if I were to buy them right now (Which I would never do because I want them to make music forever!)
I know this is unfortunately kind of mathy, and also lot’s of this data isn’t publicly well known, hence me asking the super fans! Any info, advice, or guidance would be appreciated!!
Hey there, sorry if this has been asked before but i just had a sudden realization tonight while listening to TYLS. Has there ever been an answer as to who the girl is on the cover of TYLS? It looks like a pretty old photo, in my head i thought it mightve been one of Victoria's family members, like a grandmother or great grandmother? If anyone knows id love to hear the answer, if there is one.
Hi everyone! The mods have had some confusion regarding some of the recent tattoo posts. Since Beach House blew up on TikTok, we've been struggling with bots posting all sorts of photos on the sub. We try to judge these posts as best we can but, you know, art's subjective. To make things easier on us and fairer for you, we decided it's best to have some basic rules regarding tattoo posts.
Each new tattoo post has to follow each of these criteria:
We all have different ideas on art, nonetheless how to represent what we feel about Beach House, so we hope this new screening process will be more objective. This won't be a perfect system, so please contact us through ModMail if you have questions or concerns.
Random question I had while watching it high for the billionth time. Can't tell if it's a real football field or just a set. But judging that Eric Wareheim and Ray Wise are in it maybe L.A.?
Does anyone know?
This is from arouns the time TYLS came out. Charlie Rose is a pretty mainstream serious talk show that doesn't usually have musicians on. They also played the Traveller and did a sit down interview.
My first ever tattoo had to be Beach House related 🫶
hello! because of BH, im interested in learning keyboards and maybe singing, and i'm interested in playing a few BH songs whilst i'm learning (when i'm way way better, i need to start), what are some good BH songs for beginners to learn?
for my favorite song! it’s two playing cards, an ace with a heart, and of course a jack.
Listening to that song on a Sunday night is a recipe for depression
My TYLS grad cap 💗 the album that first got me into BH years ago 🌟
i’m a music student and part of the course content is composing from scratch using ideas and inspiration from any artists or composers. i was hoping to make my piece inspired by On the Sea as it is my favourite song by beach house, however i wasn’t aware of what the time signature was and i have since found that out but sadly it was after the final due date.
i am hoping that next year i can try again and i was wondering if anyone knew what key it is in so i can keep the same key with different progressions and rhythm! :)
For me, been a HUGE fan for the last few years. Just can’t get enough of them and think they are just remarkably consistent. Seriously so talented it blows my mind. Love a lot of artists and genres but love their soundscapesc lyrics, performances. One of my favorite bands ever but also IMH one of the bands ever.
I get so excited showing them to people! I feel like a proud parent.
What about you? In-person meeting? Live show experience? Favorite album? Favorite story sharing them? How did you get into BH?
Anyway, happy listening :)
Does anyone have the set list for the beach house small pools concert in Salt Lake City?
How similar are the keys for both ‘On The Sea’ and ‘Common Girl’ ?? Every time I listen to C.G. I swear I think it’s O.T.S. … I think maybe C.G.’s keys are distorted ?? What do we feel the verdict is ??
im not that familiar with beach house merch but i saw this shirt and thought it looked cool, couldnt find any official links for the shirt tho so idk if it was ever actually released
idrc if its real or fake tbh just dont want a random fanmade design😭
I saw people discuss the “secret lyrics” for Other People at the end of the song.
This is what I hear:
“Shut up, these days come and go. Oh I know, does staying makes you go?
Thoughts?
As the title says, what lyric could I use in the card for the family? He was a big fan of beach house
