It's me Amie and It's been a while...

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I updated here on Eugene Reddit, but now is as good of a time as any!

Life has been pretty rough for me over the past year... I used to see many of you quite often in my rounds, and that would always bring me so much joy. I havent been able to do that in quite a while, and I cant go into any specifics, but that doesnt mean I havent been busy!

I’m involved in numerous initiatives and leadership roles in groups that support our community. One of the things that I do is serve on the LGBTQIA2S+ Subcomittee of the Govenor's Comission on Senior Services here in Oregon working to ensure our seniors feel supported, respected, and included. I am also in a leadership role at a couple of local orginizations, where I am helping to expand services and community in local marginilized groups.

With this in mind, I have decided to launch a Pateron: https://www.patreon.com/amiealouetteannsa

You can join for free to access any of my posts, and there are a few different monthly paid options which help to support the work that I do to help people. I love it all so much, though like many great things there are some downsides and one of them is that this is all unpaid. I will continue to this no matter what as I have to; it's that important to me.

Through my work I hope to build a community with supporters like you who are passionate about social justice, advocacy, and creating meaningful change. With your support, I’ll be able to expand my advocacy efforts, participate in more community programs, and continue creating content that uplifts and empowers our community. You’ll get an inside look at my journey, from my public advocacy work to my creative pursuits like poetry and community writing. Plus, I'll be sharing exclusive insights, updates on ongoing projects, and resources that may inspire or help you in your own journey.

Let’s make a difference, spread joy, and uplift each other.

Thanks for being you <3

Feel free to share!

P.S. I love you!

Good Places to Rent for a Party?

I have some family coming to town in December and they want to have a Christmas party somewhere in town. Are there any spots to rent a private room? We’ve considered getting a larger hotel room but would love recommendations on restaurants/venues that offer this service. Thank you in advance!

Question about voting and ballot tracking

I filled out my ballot online through the form for overseas/people with disabilities (I'm the latter). I signed the envelope and it was dropped off at the same time as a family member's. On the ballot tracking site, hers shows as having been received but mine does not.

Is this normal? This is a new process to me. Would I be notified if there was an issue with my ballot? It was three-four days ago now.

There's a small but non-0 chance that my fellow voter might have opted to not drop mine off but say that she did. I hate thinking that way, but I'm wondering if it'd inform me differently based on whether it had been received but had something stopping it from being counted versus not having been received at all.

Thanks for any input :)

Health Insurance recommendations needed

Hi all! I am looking into the local Health insurance options for a local small business. We currently have Providence. Is this one of the better choices in the area? What do you all suggest?
(Input from local health care workers with experience dealing with your end of these companies welcome).

just found a lone star tick on my car…do we really have these in eugene??

mortified to have found a lone star tick crawling on my driver’s side door this morning. these are the ones that can cause a lot of problems, including alpha-gal, a lifelong allergy to red meat. has anyone else seen or heard about them here? seems far outside its range.

Place to commiserate or celebrate this Election Day evening?

Businesses like Blairally are considered the “Blazers bar” in town, but where would be the “Donald bar” or “Harris bar”?

Giant Tortilla recommendations?

I want to make a giant burrito, but none of the tortillas I've been buying are very big once I try to wrap them. I'm aiming for at least chipotle sized tortilla or bigger. Anyone know where to get some?

Public Marketing Boards?

Hi all! I work for a Non-profit and we are hosting our annual festival at the end of the month in Eugene. Any ideas of public businesses, churches, restaurants, etc in Eugene/Springfield that will allow you to put up a poster and/or leave some flyers?

Thank you so much in advance 😌

Alternatives to OCCUP

I'm sick of this bank. Account locked again and entering all my real information into their app returns an error. What's a good alternative? I'd like to stick to credit unions or smaller banks if possible. Thanks.

Looking for something to do on this gloomy Oregon day? Looking to make some friends? Want to join a supportive community? Come hang out with the Eugene Men’s Social Club today!

It’s the first Sunday of the month so you know what that means… Beers with Buds with the Eugene Men's Social Club! The event will take place from 1-4pm on Sunday December 2 at the Chambers Street Grill and Taphouse near 18th and Chambers!

If you don't know who the Eugene Men’s Social Club are, we are a social group that was created in October 2022 under the purpose of creating a place for men to socialize and hangout with other guys in a neutral, fun, supportive environment. Nearly two years in, almost all of my friends are from Men's Club and I hang out with someone at least once a week.

The bulk of our group activity happens on discord of almost 800 members where we have a very strong group of regulars who keep the community afloat. On average we have over 100 messages going out a day. We talk about everything from finance to home improvement to food & drink to video games. If you can think of a topic, there's likely someone who shares a similar interest as you.

We also do very regular in person meetup & activities, organized via roles. Our Grass Touchers like to go on camping excursions, park hangs, paddle board meetups, and more. Our Dungeoneers like to play TTRPGs together (we have a campaign that's over 20 sessions long). Our Hackers like to play around with our discords data and discern interesting insights. Our Trivia Gang likes to regularly get together for trivia nights around town. All that to say, our in person activities are just as important as our online activities.

https://mens.eugenesocialclub.com

So if you are new to the area, interested in making some friends, or just want to see what the hubbub is about, come on out!

Also, today is all genders edition! Bring a partner, bring a friend.

See y’all around!

Trans Friendly Makeup Artist Reccs?

Looking for a makeup artist who can assist with M2F makeup tutorial in the Eugene/Springfield area. Specifically someone who can understand feminizing techniques and covering 5 o'clock shadow. This would be for everyday type wear, not over the top or special occassion. Looking at tutorial videos online is not working, would love a lesson or two with someone in person, but having trouble finding anything that specific through Google. TIA!

Moving company recommendations

Hi everyone! I’m planning a move and would love any recommendations for moving companies you’ve had good experiences with. If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d also appreciate a rough idea of how large of a space you moved and what you paid.

Thanks so much!

Hey so uh... Is anyone missing a college professor who works in water treatment, or something adjacent to it?

Just had the most bizarre interaction at work today. Had a woman come in, claiming to be a college professor who was stranded here. When she'd get upset or something she'd bring up, "I'm the reason why you all have clean tap water" and claimed to work in the water treatment field. My coworker handed her our landline to use, when that didn't work we got our manager who talked with her for like 10 minutes trying to find a resolution. Even offered to let her use my phone, and for some reason she then went on to say shit about needing to get into a college building and like... Ma'am, we are a donut shop, we can't help with that. Didn't give us any names of friends or family we could reach out to, no phone numbers we could call, nothing. I tried to tell her that Whitebird or Cahoots would likely have a computer for her to use and she just starts saying some bullshit along the lines of, "Only stupid people who don't go to college work in social services" and like... What the hell kind of bigoted retort is that? First off, two good friends of mine are college grads who work in social services. Secondly, they can provide more assistance to her than A GODDAMN DONUT SHOP. So my manager sends me back to what I was doing, only for this piece of shit to say something along the lines of, "I didn't go to college for years only to be around ugly people like this" referring to A CUSTOMER. At that point my manager was like, "Okay, you've crossed a line, you need to leave." Now I'm just left wondering, was she really a bigoted college professor with a shitty personality, or is she just your average everyday delusional tweaker? If she really is a college professor... I think talking trash about people who don't go to college, and calling random civilians ugly, is reason enough to either demote or fire her sorry ass.

Best folksy pubs/bars/etc?

By folksy I mean something at the intersection of "neighbors meet here in their gardening boots" and "tilt your head just right and you might make out Gwyn ap Nudd swilling a pint at the other end of the bar". Someplace cozy where you can sit and have a round or two, maybe get to know someone without having to shout over too-loud music.

Sam Bond's might come closest to this at times. I'm aware of Pint Pot. Any secret gems I'm overlooking?

New veg restaurant at the old Cornbread Cafe location

I don't know when it opened and I haven't stopped in to try yet, but Darlene's Veg looks to have some very affordable and nutritious options. It's refreshing to see a new establishment that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I appreciate all the hard work and cost that goes into making high end food, but it's important for the community to have a range of options.
