Queer Eugene is run entirely by volunteers. Queer Eugene exists to organize support, resources, and community for queer folks in the state currently known as Oregon; we do this with our lens of "for the community, by the community". We draw in as many community members as we can to help lead "affinity projects" that develop community and relationships. One of our affinity projects is our clothing program, which many people volunteer to support. This program operates by receiving clean clothing & accessory donations; these stock our clothing closet at The Lavender Network, stock our clothing swaps we host around Eugene-Springfield throughout the year, and gives us items to redistribute to other community organizations to freely share with their participants. To learn more you can go to https://queereugene.org/ and email Lake (they/she) at Director@QueerEugene.org

Hi Friends,
I moved to Eugene about 10 months ago and had to take the first job I could get here. I have become increasingly uncomfortable…
First, HR puts on a lot of little different parties or celebrations to keep up with morale, but they did nothing for Pride Month (we even celebrated ‘Flag Day’, sooo…).
One of my co-workers went around telling everyone my sexual orientation.
Along with them purposely not including any vegetarian options for party meals- “you can pick the meat off” is the typical response. I believe I am the only one that doesn’t eat meat products, so I feel like it’s something they try to do to make me feel bad.
With all that being said:
Any places that people have felt comfortable working for around Eugene? Doesn’t need to be hiring now or anything, just places that I can keep an eye out for.
Thank you!
Help us name our new mascot! Comment or send in a message with good and fun ideas! After we get some ideas we’ll put out a poll for folks to vote on!
Hi folks! For those trans/nb/gq bbs looking for top surgery in town and who are struggling finding a surgeon they can trust, I wanted to plug Dr. Reza Najafian.
TLDR: He's a gift to Eugene, great to work with, and I highly recommend his office, especially for people who don't wanna (or can't) travel for surgery but still want to feel safe and comfortable with their doctor and their doctor's skill. They know what they are doing and they will make you feel accounted for every step of the way.
More Thoughts
I know firsthand how hard it is to find people's reflections on their experience with doctors who are less known, I wanted to put this up in case it is helpful. I was always feeling discouraged by having to consider Portland, Seattle, LA, or SF for surgery. The complicated (and costly) logistics of travel to/from, follow-up care, let alone the extensive wait many large offices have, having to wait so long after already having have waited long enough for insurance/ finances and life circumstances to allow for the surgery, was all just a lot.
After looking on and off for years, I would really struggle to find any patient testimony on any offices besides the same 3-5 big names, which really made other doctors feel like a russian roulette- you don't have much to go on. The same big names have so many testimonies vouching for them that it makes it easy to trust them, totally get it. And that's not bad at all. But given travel or insurance or other life circumstances, it always felt unrealistic and unapproachable to go to one of those offices, and the dearth of testimonials for smaller offices made that seem like a last resort which just always left me in this cycle of being unsure of how to approach top surgery. Anyway, found Najafian by chance through my insurance, thought I would at least meet him while I was still looking around and after my first consult in March 2024 I immediately stopped searching. Had my surgery by June and am insanely happy with the results, truly.
Najafian was with OHSU in Portland for a long time before moving to town and is one of very very very few gender-affirming surgeons in Eugene who has extensive experience doing work with queer folks. He's incredibly detail oriented, so thorough, so so so humble, and honestly just super thoughtful and kind. His office works hard to take care of you start to finish, they really rallied for me when my insurance was being difficult, and his surgical team was just phenomenal to work with.
I cannot speak more highly of this dude or his practice, just wanted to offer this for anyone currently in the place I was in. You can go to a "small town" doctor and have a great experience!
Anyway, happy to answer any questions if folks have them. Take care!
