Former Employer refusing W2

I’m so annoyed. I have not received my tax forms from my past employer. I sent a message to previous my manager (who is also a co owner, according to online documents) about it and he ignored me, so I messaged the main business owner. She directed me to contact payroll. I’ve reached out to their payroll that they were using at the time of my employment. They redirected me to the tax form portion of their website and said it should be uploaded from there. It was not. I sent her a follow up telling her what they had said to me in response on this issue and asked for a paper copy. She sent me a message and then “Unsent the message” so I wasn’t able to see what she said, but I did finally receive a message from my former manager about it telling me exactly what payroll had said and even went so far to tell me that I’ve had “access to it since the beginning if the month.” which is not true. As of right now, when I log in, those documents have not been uploaded. I sent a screenshot and he told me “Well I hope you figure it out! ☺️” cool. I know it’s illegal to withhold this information from current and past employees.

I am curious if anyone has had any similar issues to this and what steps did you have to take to get this issue resolved. I have read that by the end of February, I can report the business to the IRS and they will takeover over from there, but if I could, I would like to avoid that headache. Calling the IRS is a nightmare. I just want my tax forms so I can wash my hands of this awful and discriminatory business.

Thank you.

Travel to Bend in February

Hi all! This is my first winter in Oregon and was able to get some vacation over the Valentine’s Day weekend. Im a little unsure about winters here still since we haven’t had them yet (and I’m used to east coast winters), and I was curious to know what it would be like trying to get over to Bend over that weekend. I know “the pass” can be rough and tough when conditions are bad but I truly have no idea or experience driving to Bend in general.

If not Bend, other picturesque areas you’d recommend for a stay? Thanks :)

Low key, McMenamins pizza is fire

No one ever talks about this option. Low key, fire pizza (for Corvallis standards)

Anybody got a spare room for rent?

My name is Sean. I flew in today from Hawaii and I'm currently renting an Airbnb until the 2nd of February.

I'm fleeing from a difficult family dynamic and was given 2 weeks to leave my place back in Hawaii. Given the short notice, I didn't really have much saved up.

My plan is to get a place in or around Corvallis since I'm hoping to attend OSU (I was an e-campus student). So far, I haven't found a place that could accommodate my unfortunate circumstance. I'm hoping to rent month-to-month while working a job just to get me back on my feet.

With that being said, I'm looking to pay around $600 - $700 monthly rent + utilities. However, if you need the security deposit, I can pay you when I get my tax refund mid-February.

If given the accommodation, I will immediately be applying for a job. I also don't mind helping around the house and with whatever tasks or labor jobs you have in mind. Being a responsible housemate, keeping the house nice and tidy is a given.

Right now, I'm kind of running out of options. I only have 1 big luggage with clothes and pretty much starting fresh.

I can provide a 3-year rental history and a CV for work history. If doing a credit check, it would be in the lower side. On the bright side, I can definitely pass a background check and a drug screening. I also only drink socially.

If everything goes well, I don't mind doing a long-term rental agreement. Thanks for hearing me out. Hope to hear back from someone. I'll be forever grateful if you could help me out!

Help catching blazers games?

Not sure if anyone here has had any luck getting the blazers through OTA antenna T.V. But I’d love some advice. It seems Corvallis is stuck in a dead zone between Portland and Eugene where antenna coverage is spotty at best. Has anyone had good luck getting a good/consistent picture? Any help would be great.

Visiting scholar looking to meet up

Hi folks- I'm visiting Corvallis for the next month. I am a faculty member visiting for sabbatical and am curious what there is to do around here, if there are any local meet up groups, or events with friendly strangers who are a little older than the typical college student crowd. I'm from a metropolitan area in the midwest and am used to quite a bit more events/ gatherings happening every day, and poking around the meetup website and various events website, and I'm not finding as much as I'm used to (I understand it's smaller and different than a large metro area). I'd appreciate any tips for meeting cool people in my life stage, or if anyone else on here is lurking who is looking to meet up (bonus if you're faculty/staff at OSU) I'd love to connect!

Looking to build in Corvallis/Philomath

Hello everyone! Our family currently resides in North Albany and are thinking about a move to the area in the near future. Wondering if anybody might have any connections with people looking to sell off land or property in the area? We are hoping to possibly start a small homestead and are looking for a little bit of land but there just doesn’t seem to ever be much available on typical real estate sites.

Feel free to message me privately if you have any ideas. Thank you all so much!

Any place to acquire a malt shake?

Malt shakes are one of my favorite things in the world and I realized I haven't had one in years. I could really use that kind of childish joy right about now.

Anyone know where I could find a malted milkshake around here? If not, I guess I'll learn how to make one, lol.

Osborn Aquatic Center Engineer Report

Was released yesterday in the upcoming City Council Meeting agenda. The relevant report starts on page 189:

City Council 02-03-2025 Packet

(Updated with link to City Archive site)
https://archives.corvallisoregon.gov/public/ElectronicFile.aspx?dbid=0&docid=4897737

I'm not a structural/civil engineer but it doesn't sound good. It reads (to me, again not an engineer) like a design flaw in the the original construction to account for the disparate temperatures between the ceiling (inside) and the roof (outside) which allowed excess condensation to build up and prematurely rust the steel and not a maintenance failure (which there seemed to be some speculation about).

Morning Corvallis The low temps and high fog today created some slick spots on roads and exterior walkways. Especially here at Samaritan Hospital.

Duerksen is creepy..

I'm a f/t engineering student @ OSU w great rental history + great credit. It was my 1st time talking w them & searching for rentals in corvallis.. and wow! they're creepy + shady af!!

I found an apartment I really like via Duerksen. I left a vm w the manager asking for a lower rate, they called me back saying the landlord approved $1800 monthly rent as long as my application goes thro. They have a winter special - first 2 wks free.. no joke, this lady tried convincing me that starting Feb. 1st the 1st month's rent is $980 (there's 28 days in Feb, exactly 4 wks). When I call her out on it, she says well idk how much the 1st month is, u just need to submit an application (for an undisclosed amt of rent?? wtf?).

Same ph call, she changes their story & says the landlord didn't approve it but would consider a lower rate if my application's approved. So I call her out on again & she says she needs to call the landlord.. (except she didn't put me on hold/ mute) & i hear her say "this lady actually thinks we're going to give her a discounted rate.. " she come (back?) on & says, lucky for u the landlord will take your offer.

Lesson of the story - don't trust any landlord that can't do simple math & lies to customers!! Save your money & your time & stay far away from these people..

Does anyone have an acoustic guitar I can borrow?

Hey! I am working on writing my first song and I was hoping to record the instrumentals. I played guitar a few years ago, but I think I can recall the chords I need to play.

Does anyone have an acoustic guitar they are not using? I would need it for a month or so maybe shorter.

I can pay you to rent it or I can make you some food to say thanks! Old or new anything is great Or maybe want to be paid to help me record the instrumentals?

Thanks!

Really struggling here…

(20)(M) I don’t post anything really on Reddit but I’ve been really struggling with my mental well being, mostly on loneliness and isolation. Like I’ve got loving parents but other than that I’ve got no friends except one, but he won’t open up much. I really just feel stuck and almost to a point that I almost can’t take it for much longer. I’ve gone to therapist in the past before but with really no results, kinda just the same rhetoric over and over again. I’m just wondering if there is some kinda of focus group on mental well being here in the area of Corvallis where people my age can talk about their problems, communicate, and support each other and give feedback on their troubles and worries. Thanks for reading if you’ve seen this.

Speed Dating?

Maybe this is an insane thought, maybe this is an established thing and I am completely unaware.

Does Corvallis ever have speed-dating events? Is this something that would draw any interest in the area? I was chatting with some folks this afternoon, and I am convinced this would be a fun way to spend a spare evening, and maybe make a cool connection or two!

Can anyone tell me how the bike path through Pioneer Park is lately?

Please be nice ♥️ I know I will probably get comments about going to check for myself, but I wanted to make sure it’s safe and if anyone’s been through there lately I’d love a gauge on that.

I’m a woman looking to bike alone and am a bit nervous as I’ve never felt safe enough to take that path before and it’s a little hard to tell how it is from the road.

I know a lot of encampments were cleared out through there, but wasn’t sure if that’s still the case or if I should still avoid the area. Have never biked through there and have always been curious because it seems like it has the potential to be a beautiful stretch of the path, but don’t want to find myself in a shitty situation if I can help it. Thank you so much.

(Also I know the train / bridge collapse affects this area too so wasn’t sure if that area is closed currently?)

Vintage electronics repair

Hi folks, at my work we have some 1960s vintage magnetic audio recording/playback devices for a format that never caught on. As of this morning both of our machines are non-functional and we are unable to access old recorded media for them. I'm looking for any recommendations for vintage electronics repair persons who might have experience with devices of that vintage. It doesn't have to be Salem. Anywhere in Oregon or Western Washington are fair game. Just casting a wide net. Appreciate any help.

Local restaurants for working dinner

I'm looking for the best places in town to have a business meeting over a meal. I need a place that 4 people can easily have a conversation, and have at least one laptop out and connected to wifi. Good food at a somewhat reasonable price is a huge bonus!

We have monthly meetings that are always at dinner time, and I'd love to have a few different places to rotate between.
