It's been a couple years on here, so this is a new "Best Jeep Wrangler mechanic in Bend?" thread.

Looking for full fluid changes, brakes, rotate those tires, what's that whiny belt noise, etc.

Restaurants that deliver(that are not on DoorDash/GH)?

I'm rather reliant upon DoorDash and Grub Hub but would prefer some new options, especially restaurants that do their own delivery. Any recommendations please?

Visiting Bend from December 19th until after New Year's!

Hi! I'm a 33-year-old Norwegian man, and I'll be staying with family in Alfalfa during my trip to Bend. I'm looking for some great recommendations for things to do while I'm there.

I love stunning views and unique locations to visit, and I'd love to explore the quirky and cool spots in the area that I might not try unless I lived there. I'm a big fan of American Pale Ales, Margaritas, and Bloody Marys, so I'd appreciate any bar recommendations that serve great drinks.

Additionally, I'm a huge film nerd and avid reader, so if there are any special movie screenings or bookstores, I would love to hear about them.

I'm also interested in experiencing the nightlife and meeting some cool people. Any tips on where to go to enjoy the local scene would be fantastic!

Thanks in advance for the recommendations—I’m looking forward to experiencing everything Bend has to offer!

AQI SE Bend

Just checked my air quality app and the reading is 132 in the old farm district. What’s going on that’s causing it? Forest service slash pile burning?

HOA question for those who have Dog Poop Stations in their community

Our Bend based HOA is charging $4,200 annually for maintenance for our two dog poop stations (bags + disposal bin). This seems rather excessive. Does $175 a month per station for bags and removing/disposal of the waste seem like a lot to the rest of you? Would love to hear some feedback if anyone is willing to share what their HOA charges annually (and for how many stations). TIA!

I’m not a fan of Elon Musk but damn if Starlink isn’t impressive when you see it streaking across the sky.

What to do when your pet cat has gone astray?

My cat packed his shit and left. It’s awfully cold this time of year, but I suppose the cold ass ground needs another warm heart to keep it kind for those in need.

Anyway, even if I saw him through the LED and fog machines, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t come back to me. I reckon I’ll just see him across the streets some day, give a faint wave, and carry on remembering what used to be.

I feel like losing a pet is a lot like losing a friend… one day, they just decide to move on. Whether that’s because of Father Time or the grass is greener on the other side. Or maybe there’s just better ketamine, who’s to say?

This time of year is always a time of year to walk around and see ghosts of yesteryear. We make do with what’s still around. Yet, losing a cat feels quite a bit worse than losing a fellow human. I’m objectively a dog person, but I mean, cats just walk around with auras, independent of the world’s misgivings and pains. Even if it breaks my heart, and saddens the soul when they leave, I respect there ways… anyhow, we all have to carry on one day just like they do, don’t we?

I suppose it’s time I learn their ways.

But I do miss my cat. And it’s better to miss than to never experience a single hiss.

There’s something to be said for having the opportunity to be grateful… it’s not just a privilege but an honor. I’m grateful he was here even now that he’s gone. It’s better to love than never know the feeling. But love has never been just a feeling—it’s an experience. And experiences all have an expiration date. I’ll sign that contract any day of the week to experience those first months of a cats new love than never get to experience it at all. I like to think that’s worth something blanketed in gold.

I just wish he didn’t misplace my sarcastic texts as legitimate threats toward his meow mix fix.

If he ever comes on home, hopefully he knows he can just follow the lights. I keep most of them in a box, but a lantern in the window until he finds his way home, even when it’s likely he won’t be back. But I’m proud of him. And still forever grateful.

So keep that soul warm, Cat-a-mine.

I know the ground welcomes you. And if you find another, I hope they keep you warmer. Idk where you’re heading, but I hope it involves good sledding. And meow mix that reminds you of how I used to give you your fix.

Thanks for all the memories and the open soul. We had moments made of gold. And that’s something we can always hold.

Neighbors who don't move their non-functioning cars for weeks, months

Hi, just wanted to get an opinion about a situation in our neighborhood. The house next door to us is a rental with 6 people living in a 5 bedroom house. They're college aged, lifty types. Each one of them has a car. One person has 2 cars- one functions, the other doesn't and hasn't moved in months, verging on a year. That same person has a partner. The partner's car also hasn't moved in months until recently it got moved to their 2-car driveway.

Here's the issue- our guests are unable to park near our house. They have to park several houses down from us. We have expressed our frustration to the neighbor and we were promised that the non-functioning car would be gone in a couple of days. That was over a month ago. The compromise (I guess?) was that the partner's car was moved into the driveway to free up a street-parking spot.

Bend parking enforcement has now been called and they have a specific amount of time, 3 days I think, in order to remedy the situation. Now the neighbor thinks we're terrible people for reporting the dead car. I feel bad but kind of don't. The landlord of the people next door is aware of the situation and has given us her blessing to call parking enforcement.

What I want to know is are we a$$holes or are they?

Backcountry Hunters and Anglers?

Could anyone put me in touch with the local Backcountry Hunters and Anglers chapter? I know they meet at The Commons once a month but the person who told me about it didn't know the day. Been a member for a while and did a bunch of low-strand fencing projects when I lived in NM, and want to get involved in some local access or habitat improvement projects if any are going on. Feel free to reach out via PM!

Has anyone tried the Adult Performance Multiweek Clinics at Mt Bachelor?

I saw this as an option when looking at lessons and it seems like a great deal at $399 for 4 sessions but I'm curious what all is covered. I'm an intermediate-advanced skier don't mind a group setting for lessons. I'm looking to hone a few skills like riding in the bumps and steeper sections so I'm wondering if this would check those boxes or if the focus is a little more novice-friendly.

Winter Photo Ops

Hi there, I’m curious of some good photo spots that are open for winter? I really wanted to visit Sparks Lake but seems it may be closed in February.

I’ve searched this subreddit and haven’t seen anything super clear about winter specific spots. Thanks in advance:)

Alaska flight 907

With service from Redmond to Seattle, was scheduled to depart tomorrow at 8:30am. I have got a cancellation email and was told it was canceled due to weather/fog.

Seems odd, as the weather is fine and you wouldn’t preemptively cancel a flight 12 hours in advance to potential fog. Anyone else who was supposed to be on this flight or who has had trouble with Alaska Airlines recently?

Affordable Long-Term Dog Boarding in Bend? Seeking Recommendations

I´ll be on a four-week trip next year and am looking for boarding options for my dog. I know some of the "dog hotels" in the area, and I checked the Rover website, but it gets very expensive when multiplying the daily rate by 28: about $1300-$1600.

Does anyone know of more affordable options in Bend while still maintaining a good level of care? It may be a long shot, but I thought it was worth asking!

Thanks, fellow Bendites.

Frequent large drone sightings

I’ve seen several large drones lately at night. Drones that look to be 6’ or larger. Not a typical DJI or something. I brought it up to the cashier at the grocery store and she said I’m not alone, and that many customers have brought this up recently. Anyone else noticed this lately?

Anyone who’s been to southbound barbers, do you know if they do perms?

I’m looking for a new place to get my hair cut. I’ve got straight hair that doesn’t look good with the cuts I like to get so I need loose/wavy perms and I got recommended to them by a mutual friend but I’m not sure if they do perms. If not, where are some other good places?

Baby friendly dining?

Reaching out from Eugene to the Bend community with a question about dining. My husband and I will be staying in Bend for a while around Christmas with his parents and brother. As a group, we love to go out to a nice dinner usually but my husband and I recently had a baby.

He will be about 5 months old and is a very chill baby. The most we’d have to do is take a bottle out to feed him. We’re very aware that people go out to enjoy their time and would immediately take him elsewhere if he showed signs of a fit. (But this is honestly so rare.)

Our question is, how baby friendly are some of the nicer sit down restaurants? We’ve wanted to try Zydeco and it comes up as family friendly, but babies are different than kids. We’re also very into a steakhouse but we’re aware those may be reaching. We feel like Wild Rose could be appropriate but we’re wanting to try somewhere new. Open to all recommendations!

Note: We’re very familiar with more casual dining in Bend where we’re confident in bringing a baby.

NWX Foster Dog Rescue

Thank you to everyone who helped out with catching the runaway foster dog at Discover Park this morning! I've got a quick question for the foster mom/rescue, if she is on here/anyone on here knows her. Please shoot me a DM if so :) unsure of another way to reach out to her haha. Was magical to see the neighborhood come together to ensure the safety of this little pup

Reviews of Winter Wonderettes at Cascade Theater?

I just spent a bunch of money on a show in Bend that I wish I hadn't so I'm just curious if anyone has seen Winter Wonderettes at Cascade Theater? I don't really want to spend a ton of money if it is disappointing... It's worth mentioning that I'd bring my two school age kids. I've never been there before so I'm not sure what to expect.

Thank you!
