I live alone in a one bedroom apartment! I work 10 hours every day so the heat and lights are all off! November's bill was $72 and I stayed home with more appliances on! What the actual hell is going on here!? Anyone else seeing a huge spike in their bill?
Hello, my Salem neighbors! I live in Portland, but I am planning on coming down on Wednesday. I went to a protest solo in my hometown for BLM and made friends there, but I’m a little worried about a larger sized protest. I know it will be a huge turnout, but I’m nervous about being alone. Any advice about finding a community?
Something like Portland or any European city. Also, this system would go from the airport to downtown to Volcanoes Stadium. Not sure if Salem is big enough to have something like the MAX but a streetcar system could work.
Comedy at Mykies is back again with another amazing line up of comics to see in Salem, OR on a Tuesday night for FREE. 8:30 PM. It's Oregon Independent Comedy's goal to bring the BEST comedians from the PNW and beyond to Salem. This line up is no exception, with headliner Imani Denae fresh off performing on the Netflix is a Joke comedy show in Los Angeles. This is quite literally your chance to see her before she fully "blows up" in Salem, OR on a Tuesday night for no cover charge. Obviously go to the show, right? Right. TUESDAY FEB 4TH 8:30 PM
HELP!! Question. Filed for unemployment, got my first payment, missed the deadline to goto worksource. Denied my last week. They tell me I need a hearing. Going to worksource tomorrow. Has anyone missed this deadline and gotten benefits approved again. I’m so stressed. This new Frances system is crap….. half of my letters come in the mail, half to my inbox in Frances. Very misleading.
Hey folks — we have had a few of these now, and as several of you have noticed, they end up getting removed: largely because they turn into massive slapfights, and generally contain a whole lot of rumor and gossip, and very little in the way of substantiation (or, frankly, very many names that aren't already locally well-known for their support of far-right causes).
The way to do this is more threads like Inclusive, Anti-Bigotry, Ethical Businesses to Support — tell folks about the good places you think they should patronize.
Going forward, if folks keep posting these threads despite this warning, we will need to start issuing temporary bans ("timeouts").
So who tried to sign up for the new City of Salem utility billing and realized they had absolutely no idea what their account number was (old or new)? 🤪
Roommate and I are hungover and don’t want to think. We want to be fat and full. Any ideas on a good DoorDash place that isn’t fast food and has good portions?
So I came home from the gym and there is an orange tom cat hanging around my apartment complex (SE Salem). He's very affectionate, very sweet, wanted to get straight up in my lap. No collar but seemed well kept and wasn't skinny at all. I've lived in the neighborhood since Oct and I don't remember seeing him around but I'm not a cat person persay.
I would love to give him some warmth tonight but I am super allergic and have a dog who cats don't find...calming. I set up a little box with a blanket in the back yard just in case.
But if he belongs to someone please come get him! He's an absolute doll and clearly loved
Hey y'all, I used to go to ventis for karaoke and I'm not sure if that still goes on but I was curious if anyone knew what other places offer decent karaoke during the week or weekend. Thanks!
I know Bend is getting snow, but I'm hoping there's something in the valley so I don't need to drive through mountains or drive that far
Does anyone know what the interview process is like for Salem Clinic PC (NOT Salem Health). I have applied and waiting to hear back for multiple positions. Also curious about if they care about testing positive for thc on the drug test?
I don’t live in Salem, but I’m planning a shopping trip for Presidents’ Day, and I’m thinking of stopping at the Goodwill bins. I haven’t been there before, so I was wondering if anyone could let me know if it’s usually pretty crowded or not? Thank you!
I've got a hot water valve to my washing machine leaking. Does anyone have a recommendation or a warning for any plumbers in the south salem area?
F23 why are there no jobs in salem???
Can anybody give me a recommendation for a great barber shop or hair salon where I can go to get a short haircut or a fade for a female? Preferably somewhere where I could get in as a walk-in today or I could call and get an appointment before the end of the day. Thank you 😁
I'm getting this text:
METCOM 9-1-1 is experiencing a 911 line outage. If you have an emergency and are ... https://evb.... Replay yes to acknowledge
Edit: thank you for the responses, I just get so frustrated with so many spam texts that I wanted to verify without actually calling them in case it was real which it apparently is!
Why is it so hard to find friends in oregon??.. it seems so odd here
Who has the best chai in Salem? Bonus points if they have a drive thru.
work by David Grimes @masgrimes of Portland,Oregon
A fascinating opportunity to learn from acclaimed penman David Grimes of Portland, Oregon. If you've been curious about calligraphy outside of traditional lettering and "writing", offhand flourishing is a fantastic skill of bringing art to life using the same tools we use for pointed pen calligraphy.
Nineteenth and twentieth century American penmen produced gems of flourishing that depicted the natural world, icons of the penman's art, and graceful expressions of calligraphic beauty.
In this presentation, we will explore the calligraphic line when it is "thrown from the elbow" with a pointed steel pen. Emphasis will be placed on graceful movement above any specific form or design.
Participants will leave understanding the Offhand Pen Grasp, the definition and foundations of Offhand Flourishing, and a practice pattern to further their explorations at home.
🖋Supply list: each participant will need a straight pen holder, a pointed steel pen nib (or several), a jar of walnut ink, and a paper appropriately sized for writing fluid.

Hi! Looking for recommendations for a new water heater and install. I’ve seen a few places pop up online google search, obviously - but if anyone has either recommendations or places to avoid (and why) would love to hear it! Thanks
Edit to fix autocorrect*
I have 2 boxes of Baush and Lomb Infuse one day contacts, only one set missing. PWR -2.75. Spherical. Any takers? Or know where if they can be donated? Seems a shame to just toss them.
Hello Salem friends! The performance company eXs (aka the combined forces of Empowerment Pole and Salem Aerial Dance Company) is putting on an original show this upcoming Saturday, February 8th. There will be tons of aerial arts (think Cirque du Soleil), pole, and dance. It’s at the Grand Theatre. We just had our tech rehearsal yesterday and it’s a gorgeous show—I so hope you can join us! The theme is 90s/2000s rock music. You can follow the performance company page on Instagram for sneak peaks of the show: exs_performanceco
Let me know if you have any questions! Thank you for supporting local arts. 💕
I’ll be at the corner of Rickey and Lancaster with a sign in solidarity around 430 PM today. I’ll be out there for at least a half hour if anyone wants to join. You don’t have to be in a big group, or sacrifice your entire day to make an impact. Any effort is important.
Last year I was was an absolute mess, I was assaulted and it took me longer than I'd like to admit to put myself back together. Some days I still find myself crumble for no reason. I mostly stopped seeing friends, I rarely go out to just do stuff anymore unless i have to. My chronic illness seems to have stabilized on "everything hurts" mode. My sleep schedule, self esteem, and ambition have all apparently set themselves to NO.
My partner has been my rock, my lifeline, my lighthouse in a hurricane this past year, and I'd like to do something special for him for Valentines day this year to thank him for the unbreakable foundation he's given me to hold me up when, to be perfectly honest, any other relationship I've ever been in would have let me fall. We usually don't celebrate Vday because it's just a HersheyHoliday to us, but I'm gonna use it to surprise him with some things i know are super important to him. I'm just a little lost at what to focus on because some of his favorite things in life are things I have never really been a part of or know much about.
One of his love above all loves is action figures. He's a toy collector right down into his little metalhead soul. He has filled our garage with collectibles and they're scattered throughout our home both in boxes and out (because he also likes to customize/rebuild/cannibalize and use them to make stop motion short films). He doesn't dislike getting extras or doubles of any for this reason. So I thought I might try to buy him a bulk of action figures, preferably from a fellow toy lover who would know good quality ones or has taken good care of them.
He also dreams of being a musician, he's a metalhead all day every day, and I've bought him special Avenged Sevenfold custom heavy metal guitar strings and special picks, but he's always wanted a whammy bar on his flat V. I don't know much about guitars but I think those are an aftermarket addition, so they need to be bought and installed? If anyone has suggestions on where to go for those kinds of things I'd appreciate it (aside from guitar center, I called them they had no idea so either the employee was new/dumb or it's an unusual request). I would also love to set up some kind of heavy metal jam session with other local musicians, I know there's got to be some around he just doesn't know any of them and frankly neither do I. Thought about getting him an amp but I'm not sure if there's a brand or type or size that goes best with that kind of music, so suggestions for that are also welcome.
Finally, art. Easy unique kind of artist and his current preferred medium is Trading cards. He collects multiple individual trading cards such as pokemon/magic the gathering/force of will/Etc and carves out sections of them and puts them together into a 3D image. They can be found all over tick tock and he tends to leave some around town with his artist card in a little plastic sleeve, he has sold them in the past but it's mostly for fun. Suggestions on new types of art to use for that would be fun, he started with simple Pokemon card designs, until some friends of mine gave him a ton of Force of Will cards and with all of the practice from them he moved on to making some magic the Gathering cards and they look pretty awesome. I'm not super into TCGs but some of them have some pretty epic art styles, and he ends up needing a BUTTLOAD for this hobby because it takes 4-6 if each card to make a quality 3D image. I even got some Mica powder I use for dice making and used them on some of his card designs that he ended up sealing with glue afterward and it added new depth to them. But outside of Pokémon, MTG, Force of Will, and Yu-Gi-Oh, I'm not really sure what other TCGs that might make fun art projects?
Thanks for reading my long, LONG word vomit, and if you have any suggestions on the things I'm looking for feel free to drop them here in comments or to send me a private message about them. If you'd like to see examples of some of the odd things he makes for more clarification also send me a message and I can send you some photos or links to his tiktoks.
I want to share my thoughts with respect and without offending anyone. I know I can't please everyone, but I do believe in showing empathy and being mindful of how I express myself.
I recently saw a protest scheduled for this Saturday, primarily involving people of Mexican descent. On TikTok, I saw videos of people drifting cars and waving the Mexican flag, and honestly, it bothered me. I found it disrespectful and morally wrong. As someone of Mexican descent, I am proud of my heritage, but I also believe that respect should go both ways.
I've seen situations in Mexico where Venezuelans or Colombians displayed their flags, only to be met with hostility—people telling them to put their flags away or even taking them down. That kind of reaction makes it clear how hypocritical it is when people do the same thing here in the U.S.
I fully support immigrants coming here for a better life, but I also believe in respecting the laws and customs of the country we’re in. Protesting is a right, but it can be done peacefully and respectfully, without reckless behavior. Since when has it been necessary to wave a Mexican flag in the U.S. while acting disorderly? I personally take pride in honoring the American flag because this country has given me opportunities I am grateful for.
I know not everyone will agree with me, and I may be criticized for this opinion. But my point is simple: we can protest and express ourselves without being disruptive. Respect goes both ways.
It's come to my attention that the Salem-Keizer School District throws away literally TONS of food every week. The cafeteria's are required to cook all three of the choices every day for all of the children every day, so they are preparing three meals for each and every child every single day. This is to avoid offending anyone's preference. Then they just dump the leftovers. Literally they are not allowed to take it home. If they are caught trying to preserve any of the foods, they will be punished. Literally, auditors come around and check the dumpsters to be sure they are not trying to save the food.
We have plenty of hungry people in Salem and Keizer. Isn't there some better way to manage all these leftovers?
I hate to be this person. But please for the sanity of others if you are sick please stay home. I understand grocery shopping needs to happen, you still need to go to work. But to the parents who take there sick kids into spaces where others play. Why!!! I understand they are cooped up,your lossing you sanity. I get it I'm a mom of three. But for the curtesy others please keep them home unless necessary. Please don't make it suck for others. specifically to the parent of the child at the library who told my kid I got to stay home because I had a fever and threw up. Rhymes with puck. You.
