My strawberries have woken up and are already starting to flower! This will be their third season and I’m hoping to finally get some fruit. I’m almost positive they are All Star (June bearing), but there might be Seascape also growing in the same bed. Should I snip the flowers that are coming out now since it’s so early in the season or just let them do their thing? We’re just about 4 weeks from final frost here.
Strawberries are a plenty right now in California ❤️🍓
Question in title. I’m in zone 5b turned 6a. Yesterday I checked on our raspberry plants and most of the canes had small green buds — so they’re no longer dormant, right? If I cut them down to stubs now (recommended for everbearing) will I hurt them?
Winter temperatures have been crazy warm here but are still capable of a 50-degree drop.
I have two young haskaps flowering for the first time - should I pinch the flowers to encourage other growth or leave them be? Pic if helpful: https://imgur.com/a/KqROO5D
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Going to try crossing them with my native occidentalis if flowering cycles sync up. Otherwise might try grafting.
Thank you!
I planted a lot in the ground last year (4ftx20ft) but just found it hard to see and harvest the berries. On top of that, they would touch the ground and were very prone to rot.
I was thinking about buying a few 10ft pieces of vinyl gutters, drilling holes for drainage and mounting the gutters in a stacked fashion. I could build some kind of wood frame to keep them off the dirt. Apparently the gutters are 4 inches deep which I think would be deep enough for their root system. Has anyone tried something like this?
Hi! I'm interested in paying someone knowledgeable $80 to help me get the following fruit plants to bloom and bear fruit. Excuse my poor gardening verbiage, I'm a complete beginner. I have strawberry, yellow raspberry, cherry, mulberry, elderberry, and blueberry, and cherry tomato seeds that I'd like to begin the process of getting fruit from. I'm a complete novice and have no idea where to start. TIA!
Hi, does anyone know which blackberry variety or varieties are the most heat tolerant? It gets very hot in Nothern California. Thank you.
i have 2 blueberry plants in my garden that have been near each other for 1.5 years but haven't given me fruit yet. their leaves are coming in now as we transition to spring (i'm in georgia - zone 8) and they're coming in a little different which makes me wonder if they are different types.
so i guess my questions are:
forgive my ignorance - i'm new to growing berries. thank you!
Hiya! I wanna try my hand at berries again this year. I live in indiana— zone 6b.
Can anyone link me to some pots they might suggest? I think they need to be at least 5 gallon and I’m struggling to find any that aren’t grow bags.
Also— when should I plant?
Any advice welcome
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
Finally found golden raspberries at the store and had to buy them. I haven't had the best luck with bare root plants and need some advice. I'm in the northern part of the United States so winter definitely isn't over. Can I plant them in my garage in pots until spring or how should I plant them?
I have a bunch of citrus and now a bunch of blackberries and was wondering if I could use the same fertilizer for both? It may not be ideal but will it be useless or still worthwhile?
I have a fair bit of the stuff already - should I buy something else, too?
I just purchased a bare root Brandywine Raspberry today and am so excited! I want to make sure I am doing the best I can for this plant, so if anyone is very familiar with it and wouldn't mind passing along some tips, I'd be very grateful! I live in zone 9b and will be planting in a container.
Have 5 trees, all roughly 4.5 feet tall. Growing on about a 20° incline in hard packed soil
Do dried blueberries keep their anthocyanins and phenolic compounds, or do they get oxidized? It might be harmful to consume it when it's already wrecked. If blueberries keep them, then, why? Why would they not be lost in the heat of the drying process?
I’m planning on getting a couple of varieties for a pair of pear tree guilds and I’m just wanting to make sure i pick the right varieties flavour wise. I’ve never had them but heard good things and I want to make sure my wife likes them too, she typically doesn’t like any fruit that is tart at all (so the currants, blackberries, tayberries and raspberries in our garden don’t get touched by her). She likes strawberries, pears, bananas and mangoes if that’s any help in choosing. The 2 varieties that I’ve seen that I feel might work best are ‘Straw Sensation’ and ‘Giants Heart’
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
It wasn't until my goji berry seedlings were all at least 12" tall that I discovered they reproduce in volume via runners. Is there any way this can be mitigated before they are planted out? How deep would a barrier need to be? Can productivity be adequate if they are planted in containers?
I want to plant the bushes against my garden fence... which is just a few meters from our property parameter fence. We have blackberries all along this area that I am clearing, and I don't want to have to go through this all over again with goji berries if I walk away and stop gardening for a few years.
I'm in Zone 8A (Vancouver Island). The strain is "Shanghai Express". I'm surprised that the supplier doesn't have anything to say about runners on their website, but maybe they're not as big a deal as I've been led to believe. Help me out here!
