AW3423DWF random black flashes?

Towards the middle of my screen there will be random black lines/bars that cover from top to bottom flashing and it happens every 10 minutes or so and lasts for a couple seconds. Does anyone know what is causing this? Is my monitor just screwed? Only had it for a month.

Question about arms and space saving

I’m considering getting an arm mount but my main question is when it comes to using something like the Bewiser S1020 with an Odyssey, how much space do I actually get back in terms of the monitor moving back on the desk? It’s less about moving the stand off the desk for me and more about the monitor moving back to increase the viewing distance. Like right now, it looks like the monitor itself is about 6” away from the back edge. How much would this change?

I saw that the newest firmware of the G9 57 has 3PbP. Can someone take a picture of this mode & what resolution & refresh rate each screen runs at?

Windows 11 taskbar to > dock that supports fullscreen

Hi all,

Joined the ultrawide community with a Lenovo R45w-30 which for me is a great monitor however coming from previous monitor lose a bit of screen real estate vertically.

Where I can get some of that screen real estate back is the taskbar as when it stretches across the whole screen, I jump in and out of applications all the time so need the taskbar to locate the apps in the easiest possible way.

If I try TaskbarXI then I don't get any space back it doesn't 'float' on top,

Example of my screen - where the green grass is where I would like it extended down to when apps go "full screen" or snapped into 50/50.

No picture on a 49" Samsung Odyssey OLED G9

Hello,

I've had the G9 for a few months now, and I have never been able to get it to display at 5120x1440 at 120 hz. I'm using a HDMI 2.1 (Certified) cable and my GPU is the Nvidia 4090 Gaming OC-24 by Gigabyte. Additionally, the picture will display IF I keep it at 5120x1440 at 60hz with 8bcp output color depth.

I'm not sure what a lot of that means but this is what I have working so far. Tech support from Samsung has been unable to help me. They say that it's my GPU that is incompatible with the monitor...

Help?

Issues with Pebble V3 and Lenovo Legion Y34wz-30

Hi,

Short background: I got a Legion Y34wz-30 some days ago that is connected to a laptop with USBC and to a PC with DP and USB-B.

I’m experiencing an issue with my pebble v3 (speakers connected with the second 15W usbc port): after some time I can hear a sort of electrical interference and then every sound become metallic. Turning off and on the speakers is solving the issue only for a while (no fixed time) after that I’m getting the metallic voice.

Is anybody experiencing a similar problem and/or propose some solution? For now I connected the speakers directly to the laptop USBC port and everything is working but in this way I’m not able to use my speakers with the other PC.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance for the help

Ultrawide CS2 overlay settings

Any of you that have found some useful overlay configurations for playing CS2 with ultrawide (5120 x 1440 here)? I'm just a such noob with Counter Strike console commands, so looking for some help. At least bigger minimap on the side of display, open all the time, should be a no brainer. Also at times, while cooking and clutching super focused, it's bit hard to see how many players are left.

And yes, I know about the workshop maps that enable you to tweak the overlay, but so far I have found none that support freehand editing that would work 32:9. Everything seems to be made for 4:3 or bit larger.

Dell U4021QW Soundbar?

Has anyone found a good solution to mound a soundbar under the Dell U4021QW? Dell makes a few soundbars but none of them are compatible for the 40" 5K2K it seems like. With the monitor being so wide it would seem more ideal to have a soundbar under it rather than having speakers all the way to the left and right next to the monitor.

Mac Studio M2 and Odyssey G9 Oled madness

Up until recently I had the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9c connected to my Mac Studio M2 Pro via HDMI. Getting the right resolution was no issue, and I had a decent frame rate as well.

My Neo G9 was sent in for repair due to it having dead pixels, and I was offered my purchase amount back since they couldn’t get the parts to fix it. So I went out and bought the G9 OLED (GS95C) on offer this weekend.

Since installing the OLED G9, my MAC can’t identify the right resolution, and keeps offering 3840x2160 as the highest resolution. This really doesn’t make sense to me, since I could get the Neo G9 working at 5120x1440 without issues.

So connecting it via HDMI doesn’t work, and connecting it via a USB-C to HDMI cable gives the same result. The only way I can get it working is, if I connect it via a Thunderbolt 4 dock with a built-in DP port, and connect the display with a DP cable. I also have to have Game-mode turned on which makes absolutely no sense.

My preferred setup would be to leave the DP input for my gaming pc, and use HDMI on my Mac. Is there any way to do this, any way to use the HDMI with the Mac, or am I just out of luck?

New to ultra wide and looking for advice with adjusting

As the title says, I’ve ascended from a 32 inch Samsung G8 to the 49 inch G9 and I’m loving the color representation and size of this monitor. I’m just having a hard time getting used to my games, not taking up an entire screen and instead just the center portion of the display. Is this something that I would expect to have to get used to eventually? I got an open box 4080 zotac that’s pushing the 5120x1440 and games like Star Wars Jedi fallen order cut scenes are not full screen. Banishers is the same.

Is Samsung 49″ Odyssey G93SC OLED best value for money now at 999 bucks?

It's the lowest price I've seen, I know it's a beast but is it a best pick for under $1000?

An odd tale of upgrade and downsize

Greetings! I'm here to tell my tale and get some impressions of people who went on a similar path. There will be a TLDR at the end, and if you find my story not interesting feel free to just skip it, but I'm in a good mood and wanted to share.

I'm a gamer in my 40's that work in IT and is really knowledgeable on technology (although you will all find that I made some odd choices with that knowledge a couple time).

Since I began gaming in the 90's, I saw technology grow along my hobby, and one thing that stayed true during most of the years (until recently, more on that later) was that bigger is better when it comes to monitors. Honestly, for those of you who didn't know this era, seeing someone rocking a 24" CRT monitor where 19" (and even 17") was the standard was mind blowing.

So as the years went on, I always upgraded my monitor when I upgraded my PC to get that bigger "wow" factor. I went from 17" CRT to 19" CRT, to 24" LCD (16:10) to 27" LCD (16:10) to 27" LCD (16:9 because 16:10 was poorly supported by that point.

We are now in 2015 and this is where the odd things start happening. I find myself looking and shopping my next upgrade, and now the market is completely different. Monitors and TVs were getting more and more similar (or so I though), and there wasn't that many affordable options to upgrade my 27" monitor. So after a lot of shopping, I went with a Samsung 1080 VA 32 inch TV that I installed on my desk. I obviously lost some sharpness there due to lower PPI, but the bigger size made up for it and it was easy to drive for my 2015 video card. 60HZ also wasn't a problem for me, because my previous PC monitor was also 60HZ and that was completely fine for my need, 60FPS was plenty enough.

I kept this setup for a long while, until 2021 where I completely changed my PC once more. In hope of keeping growing in size again, and having had a decent experience with a TV as a monitor, I just decided to go with a 42" 4K Samsung VA TV that I got for relatively cheap. Again, 60hz wasn't an issue, I never used anything less. The PPI was higher than my previous screen, so it was ok on that front, but for the first time ever, when I booted up my new PC and played some games, the "wow" factor did not work, I felt the screen was "too" big and instead of being more immersive like it usually is, I just found that everything looks "bigger" but without any major added benefits. I know this sounds like an obvious thing, but hear me out: My upgrades before that were always more immersive because more of my viewing field was filled with screen, but now with the 42 inch, while it was still the case, it didn't improve immersion for me as characters on screen were bigger, UI was bigger, and it just didn't feel the same. It's as if it was simply "too big".

But anyway, I somehow got used to it and used it for both work and gaming since 2024. But all this time, I thought to myself, this is a little bit too big and the colors are not that great but since I'm the kind of guy who often use Reshade to desaturate colors in modern games (I hate "fake vibrancy", and prefer a more realistic tonemap for most 3D games).

So, now that I moved to a new house about a month ago, my new office space is much more lit with nature light (which I absolutely like), but the awful reflections on the Samsung TV were really distracting. I though more and more about changing my monitor, but what could I do? Get a better 42inch TV? Could I possibly even consider GOING DOWN IN SIZE???

Anyway, I was slowly getting sold on the idea of getting a smaller monitor. For the first time ever in my PC gaming career, bigger didn't felt like better anymore.

So last week, I went and started going to Best Buy and other retail shop in the hope of seeing monitors with my eyes before ordering something online. During my shopping trip, I ended up at Stereo Plus, where they had a "mega under the tent sale" and I saw a monitor standing out from the rest that got my attention standing there. An Alienware AW3423DW. It was being sold for 850$ Canadian because it has a small imperfection scratch on the screen which I could barely see when it was shown to me.

After reading a couple reviews online, I went back and decided to get it.

Oh boy. What a transformative experience it has been.

Just plugging the monitor in, I was immediately blown away by the picture quality. The OLED technology is really a night and day difference compared to my old VA TV. However, in standard mode, the saturation is wayyyy too over the top for my liking, so I put the monitor in creator mode with gamma 2.2 and sRGB color space and now it is basically perfect. Yes, the colors are vibrant, but not "fake vibrant" like we see in some games. Bear in mind, this panel is less resolution than the 4K I had before, but the PPI is higher so it feels sharper to me.

Also, the 21:9 aspect looks just so cool in Windows it's not even funny. I see all my tabs in my browser and still have place for more. I can RDP to a server, place the window on the right half and it's like having a dedicated 4:3 screen. Absolutely awesome.

Also, the 144hz refresh rate (for 10 bit colors) is much more of life changer than I though. The fluidity of working in Windows is ridiculous compared to the 60hz I used for basically 30 years.

But then when I started gaming, I was hit with what I though were oversaturated colors, even with the same desaturation Reshade presets I used on my old monitor. I was not completely sold on it at first, but the more I played, the more I realized that this is not "oversaturated", this is simply the accurate colors of the game. But since games (especially older games) were maybe not though out with OLED panel in mind, I will keep desaturating a lot of them (example, Lord Of The Rings Online, Witcher 3, Mass Effect). But even if I desaturate them, the remaining color will be extremely accurate and I really really like this.

However, after two days of gaming on it, I'm still having a slight hard time adjusting to the smaller size. This screen is basically like going back to a 27" with extended sides, so it feels quite a lot smaller than my 42" (which was too big anyway like mentioned earlier).

TLDR: Went from 42 inch 16:9 to a 34 inch 21:9. Overall 95% of my experience is extremely positive, but I'm having a slightly hard time getting used to the smaller size. Anyone did the same (reduce monitor size) and if so, what was your experience? Will I get used to it in a couple weeks? I don't consider returning it, I just want to get used to it!

GIGABYTE M34WQ through USB-C

Hi, I am looking to buy an UW monitor and want to make sure I understand something before I go ahead and spend this much money on a product.

I have a Macbook Pro M1 (14") and want to get the GIGABYTE M34WQ. Will I be able to use the USB-C port of the monitor for both power delivery and video upstream? And will it reach the 3440x1440 at 144Hz that it promises?

Thanks for any help!

Anyone found a soundbar that attaches to a Dell ultrasharp curved monitor?

looking for a sound bar that either is wall mountable below the monitor (which will be attached to the wall), or attached directly to the curved screen. This is a small office, and space is a premium, so I don’t want anything physically on the desk. Bonus points for not having LED lights.

Just got the AW3423DWF, some questions regarding contrast

I'm absolutely in love with the monitor. Took me a few hours yesterday to set up HDR properly. In games that implement it well it's a night and day difference (F you Destiny 2).

Now, I'm interested in squeezing the most out of the SDR mode and have some questions. Sorry if it's silly, but I'm not super knowledgeable about these things.

For SDR content I'm using the Creator preset with sRGB color space and 2.4 gamma. I tried 2.2 but I prefer the darker blacks of 2.4. When it comes to brightness and contrast... a lot of mixed opinions that I've read online. Personally, I find the monitor to be quite dim if both sliders aren't at 100 (max). Is this "wrong"? I'm wondering if using max contrast messes with the accuracy of the colors in any way? I definitely like the way it looks because it increases the overall brightness.

34 office work advice

Hi folks,

I just picked up a 34” curved 1440p for work. My use case is a manager on an DevOps/ platform engineering team. All Microsoft stack. The OS is windows. I review and write code in vs code and visual studio, research topics on the web and use the office 365 suite etc. Always have multiple programs open. I have lots of meetings and need to share screen quite often. I will also have to skip from development workflows to management reporting work flows etc.

Any tips to get the best out of the screen? I have installed power toys so I have fancy zones but haven't gone deep.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I was torn between and 32 and 34. I took gamble on the utrawide.

Thanks in advance. Happy Sunday!

Upgrading from two 24" 1080p monitors to 49" ultrawide 5120x1440 - but which?

I have been looking at different ultrawide monitors for the past weeks since I will be upgrading. I won't do any gaming - so I don't care about "G-sync", anything above 144Hz or OLED/QLED. The monitor will be used primarily for work and everyday browsing (YT, Reddit etc.) I have been looking at the following monitors:

LG UltraGear 49GR85DC-B (cheap)

AOC AG493UCX2 (cheapest)

Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 S49AG950 (least cheap of the 3 but also the one that I have seen being praised the most on this sub)

I feel like if I buy the G9, I won't be utilizing most of the monitor since I don't really game nor watch movies. The AOC seems the best for my needs but I have heard not-so-great things about it on the sub.

What's your take on it? I am still new to curent gen monitors. The ones I have now are XL2411P from BenQ which I upgraded to back in 2016 when I got into gaming. The jump from 60Hz and a tiny monitor to 1080p and 144Hz felt amazing. So I can only imagine the jump to ultrawide will do. Thanks in advance!

Is it possible to trick my computer into 1440p 16:9 being native, to un-Ascend?

I have NVIDIA GPU. Currently, I have every setting on my PC basically tricking my GPU into thinking that my desktop is downscaled in aspect ratio, from 3440x1440 to 2560x1440.

This works perfectly, but any time I alt tab from game to desktop or desktop to game, I get like a ~3 second delay and some black screens, like the GPU has to work extra hard to figure out what resolution it should be in Full Screen. So...it works...and it downscales perfectly, but it is janky.

Is there a way to remove the jank? Basically tell my monitor this is 16:9, and thus my GPU would read that the aspect ratio is 16:9? I don't know if that is possible at all, or if all of this relies on the GPU to re-size/re-scale, which is maybe why theres a few seconds of lag/glitching when I open a full screen app...because full screen wants to automatically go to 21:9 and I am saying re-scale to 16:9.

Need help to buy my first Ultrawide for gaming ( ~800€ )

Hello ! I finally made up my mind between 4k and a Ultrawide 1440p !

Do you have a recommendation for me ? I read a lot of post on this sub but I'm still lost.

I don't want an OLED that's a no no.

I'd like if he could be curved ( is it better for gaming ?)

I play a lot of game variety like fps, rpg, h&s, indie, strategy etc.

I'm from Europe if that help

Thanks !

What monitor should I get?

So I use my monitor for 90% work, 10% COD PS5. Budget is not an issue. I purchased the AW3225QF but the text distortion is bugging me a lot and I am still in the return window.

I want to game occasionally for COD, but need a decent monitor given the vast majority of time I am using this for work. Budget is not an issue

Ultra wide will be ideal…

What should I get for this type of setup?

So I’m currently building my pc and it’s going to have a OC 4090(pretty sure most 4090 is OC) in it and I know for sure I’m going to get the Samsung odyssey neo g9(not sure which size just yet) for part of this setup, but I’m also curious what ultra wide monitor would be best to use as duel monitor system with it? The second monitor is going to be floating over the g9 and I’m going to use a solid wood height adjustable table
