I intend to just transplant my 3080ti until I get the 4090 or the 5090. I game, run 3 monitors, stream to multi platforms, run VMs and imaging software as well as light CAD work, the reason why I'm upgrading or wanting to is due to the PC being 5 years old and various ongoing motherboard issues like ram, bsod, etc to the point I just had to do a complete reinstall of Windows.
Not sure which is the better choice as the older PCIe slows the performance of a 4060 (not sure how significant; seen conflicting reports) but was hoping someone with more knowledge would be able to help. Thanks!
this is the setup I’m currently building. but I got the case and want to send it back because the glass is too dark to see through well. I assume that white cases yellow/fade faster than black ones so unless that’s incorrect, I’m looking for a black case with un-tinted glass but if anyone wants to share another recommendation that doesn’t fit these specifications then I would still like to hear it.
Thank you.
I am a first time builder, but I always wanted a small form factor (or small-ER form factor) build. I was hooked to the NR200p V2 because it fit the GPU and you can vertical mount it. But it doesn't show off all the components like I want to, so instead I'm opting for the Jonsbo Z20 which is a, kind-of SFF case that displays all the parts nicely. However I was wondering if I could theoretically vertically mount my GPU by moving the PSU to the back of the case by zip-tying it to the top and back of the case.
The only thing Im worried about is if I'd have enough horizontal clearance for my GPU and which mount I should use.
Hello everyone this will be my first time ever owning a PC and building one. I've normally been use Macbooks all my live for personal use. I have a budget of $2500-$3500 for a pc(all components).
Just some things to keep in mind. I will be using this computer for AI/Software Development, twitch streaming games(Elden Ring, Skyrim, Apex ...).
Thanks for all your help!
Hello!
I'm building a small factor PC for productivity, what do you thing about this configuration? Thanks!

Build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9L9Qdb But it's Win10, not Win11, as my old key worked. PSU, GPU, and CPU cooler were hand-me-downs from my old build, parts are only a year old, everything else is new.
When I first built it exactly 1 week ago, I had trouble getting it to boot, with the DRAM light being on. Tried updating BIOS via FLASH, reseating CPU, removing and replacing the CMOS battery, double checked all physical connections... what eventually worked was only booting with 1 stick of RAM in B2 slot. The monitor yelled at me that something was wrong so I put the 2nd stick into A2. It POSTed, let me install windows, and there were no major issues. I thought nothing of it, until now.
Now the computer won't boot, showing the same issue as before. DRAM amber light is on. When I unplugged the PSU from the Surge Protector and re-plugged in, it booted, but the Windows 10 "Welcome" screen was a bit slow. I ran mdsched, rebooted computer, left it running, and came back to it saying that "Windows didn't restart correctly", and it froze, couldn't interact with the buttons.
Turned off computer by holding power and powered it back on to the same DRAM light issue. Unplugged power, replugged, booted, go to windows, checked Event Viewer, said there were no issues with RAM. Thought it was all unusual. PC then randomly froze.
Turned off computer by holding power and powered it back on, booted, the Windows 10 "Welcome" screen was slow and then froze. Turned off computer by holding power and powered it back on to the same DRAM light issue. Decided to make Reddit post in hopes of advice...
Whatever issue I ran into originally clearly isn't solved. I don't like the idea of having a bricked Mobo or faulty RAM. I find it odd that there was no issue for exactly a week and now it's giving me a fuss. I'm open to any advice.
I'm thiiiiiiis close 🤏 to having all the parts I need to start my new build, but the CPU is the last piece of the puzzle. I know the 9900X3D and 9950X3D will be out soon, but unfortunately they will be cost prohibitive.
My hope is, shouldn't their release drop the price of the 9900X? It's been sitting tight at ~$400 for quite a while now, and I'm tempted to just go for it... but I just KNOW that if I buy it right now it will drop almost right after. 😖
I know a lot of you follow pricing trends and have had experience with previous AMD price drops when new ones come out... and while I don't want to buy right before a significant price drop... at the same time, if it's going to be 2 more months and only drop down to like $379, then I don't really want to hold out that long just to save twenty bucks. Any predictions for when (or estimates for how much) the 9900X is likely to drop in price? With those X3D's on the horizon, it HAS to be soon.... right??
Hello, here is the situation :
I currently have an Acer Predator G3-710 that a friend offered to me.
https://media.ldlc.com/r1600/ld/products/00/03/60/33/LD0003603336_2_0003603450_0004279322.jpg
The specs are :
I can play almost everything, but as you can see, the CPU is old. Very old. And it cannot hold the GPU correctly. While most of games run correctly, some have fps issues, others are unplayable (like Fortnite). I would like to change it for a more recent CPU
But I also need to change the motherboard. And since I'm not that rich, I would like to know if I can change this PC motherboard without buying another case (and another power supply, and another hardrive......$$$).
Does anyone have information about how I can modify this PC case ?
Is this a good config?

If not, please advise, I am new. thank you in advance.
Building a new pc. At the point in the windows installation process where in order to move forward you have to connect to internet.
The onboard wifi isn’t showing up as an option so I assume it’s a drivers thing. I installed the drivers to a usb from a laptop and all of the .exe files show up in that view. However when I plug it into the new pc nothing shows up. I can see the folders where the driver should be but it’s empty. I’ve tried multiple usb slots and don’t know what’s going on.
I recently built a brand new PC and was lucky enough to get a 5080FE from Best Buy on launch day. Slotted it in, turned the PC on and it booted fine. Installed drivers, downloaded Cyberpunk and booted it up - made it through the first couple text screens in the beginning before the main menu loaded, then the GPU fan wen to max speed (sounded like a jet, startled me actually), the lights on the GPU went out and the screen went blank. I immediately turned off the PC via the PSU.
Did this in every game I tested. Would not let me actually play any game. I switched out parts (such as PSU), nothing; no change. Then I turned off GPU Scheduling in Windows - finally able to play something! But I need this setting turned on for frame gen, so I turned it off - hard crashing again.
Switched over to PCIe Gen4 via the bios and this seems to have solved the issue. The GPU fan still seems to hit a higher RPM in menus then gameplay, which seems odd to me, but I was able to play for hours yesterday with no crashing.
I know I've seen other posts about switching to Gen4, but I haven't seen any which specifically mention the GPU fan hitting max rpm and lights turning off with the screen. Posting for awareness in case anyone else is struggling and also in case anyone has any insights. Thanks!
Looking for a future proof case with high breathability! Full size and ATX. A large mid may suffice, but idk.
I prefer a sleeker look and don't care for something flashy. My mobo has a USB 4.0 port. I'd love one on the case too. But I'll settle for a 3.2 if need be.
In case it's helpful here's my current parts:
Cpu: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X 4.4 GHz 12-Core Processor
Cpu cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler
Thermal compound: Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 12 g Thermal Paste
Motherboard: Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 ATX AM5 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6400 CL32 Memory
Storage 1: Samsung 990 Pro 4 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Storage 2: Western Digital WD_BLACK 8 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video drive: undecided, unacquired looking for rtx 4080 through 5090 considering 3090 ti if I need to.
PSU: Corsair SF1000 (2024) 1000 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular SFX Power Supply
Optical Drive: Asus BC-12D2HT Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer
OS: Microsoft Windows 11 Home OEM - DVD 64-bit
Case fan: be quiet! Pure Wings 2 87 CFM 120 mm Fan
Feel free to comment any and all recommendations. I'm not an expert in any of this stuff. I've researched a lot lately and I'm hoping for reliability, power, healthy temperatures, and quietness.
I wanted to know more about the specs, like how many GPU cores would be needed to run a 1440p 60fps or which GPU would be good to pair with which CPU to avoid bottlenecks but I don't know where to look.
Hey everyone,
I was lucky enough to snag an MSI Vanguard RTX 5080 on launch day. However, CPU availability is just as crazy right now, so I’m considering the following options:
This PC will be in my living room, connected to my LG G4 (120Hz UHD), and used exclusively for gaming and web browsing—no video or photo editing. I don’t play FPS games anymore (too old for that 😅) and mostly stick to casual and strategy games like Satisfactory, Grounded, Enshrouded, It Takes Two, Civ 7, Anno, AoE, etc.
I'm wondering if the 7600X3D would be sufficient. My main concern is that it only has 6 cores instead of 8. However, a friend of mine runs a 7800X3D + RTX 4080 Super in a similar setup and barely sees significant CPU load.
Would pairing a 7600X3D with an RTX 5080 be a bottleneck for UHD gaming, or is it a reasonable choice?
Thanks!
PS: I originally planned to go all out with an RTX 5090 + 9800X3D, but after seeing scalper prices, I quickly backed out. 😅
I'd love suggestions for a first-time builder. I plan on getting either a 7800x3d or 9800x3d and a 5070ti or 5080. Preferably also an X670E or X870E MB. I don't care about RGB or aesthetics in general. I only want it to be an easy build with good airflow. Budget would be $2500.
Just built a new PC with a 9800x3d 5080 fe and a rog strix b650e-i motherboard. I installed two m.2 storages with one being the old one from my last pc. On first boot of my new pc I am getting a screen that is telling me to “enter setup to recover bios setting. When raid configuration was built, ensure to set sata configuration to RAID mode. Press F1 to run setup.” When I press f1 or any other potential keys here nothing happens. Any ideas on what I can do next to set up bios and my pc? Would rather avoid having to get a usb stick to flash.
Basically what the title says, what's the best way for me to handle something like this. Also, other than the power supply, what other challenges might I run into?
My current set up consist of :
ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS WIFI
AMD RYZEN 5 3600 Wraith Stealth
Team T-Force Delta RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB)
MSI Geforce GTX 1660 Super
Case : Fractal Design Meshify C
Montech Century 650 Watt 80 Plus Gold Certified Fully Modular Power Supply
I’m not really knowledgeable when it comes to pc building, so any/all advice would be appreciated!
This is a weird question but does anyone remember a website where you could punch in pre-built and get the specs for each part and then that part would have manuals or suitable compatability?
Not pcpartpicker, it was had a tan navigation part on the left of the page and was kind of basic but had a lot of good knowledge.
I haven't needed it in some time, as my PowerSpec is starting to show it's age, and now I can't find it.
Any ideas would help. Thanks!
My PC crashes randomly with BSOD and error code WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR or CRITICAL PROCESS DIED. Whenever it gets BSOD it's either of the two.
At first I also thought that it's a driver issue but I have reinstalled, clean install, whatever you call it the OS. And even now February 2025 the issue is still happening and became worse.
The issue started last September 2023 whenever I am playing games only. I can for example play GTA V for a minute then it would crash. Same with other games. But I noticed that only for heavy games. Games like Stardew Valley or Hollow Knight are not affected. I suspected it's a failing GPU or RAM. What I did was bought a new set of RAM and sold the suspected failing RAM.
The issue persisted even with new RAM so I thought it's not the RAM anymore. I also sold the old RAM some time after that but even now the buyer did not even contacted me for any issue so I guess that even the old RAM is not yet failing.
Now, come January 2024 or February 2024 I have a friend with almost the same setup as mine and I have tried my GPU on his machine and everything seems to work. I have played max settings of Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, GTA V etc for about 30 or 45 mins (I guess it's enough since on my machine it won't even go for more than 1 minute haha) and the issue did not occur on his machine. I have used Display Driver Uninstaller and the proper driver for configuration so no worries in that field.
Now I have tried his GPU on my machine and it did not cause the issue. I also tried his PSU and no issue happened.
Time passed and I have not played any more on my PC due to the issue until around April 2024 (Overcooked 2) and July 2024 (Stardew, for about a week and DOOM). The issue did not occur during those times.
Then last December 2024 when playing Left 4 Dead 2 the issue occurred again. Then last January 20s 2025 the issue occured EVEN THOUGH I am not playing any games. I have just opened MS Teams and couple of VS Code running, Chrome, etc. It also crashes whenever I open Premiere Pro and for example trying to play on Premiere Pro a 200 MB .MOV video.
Sometimes the PC crashes on the "Welcome" loading screen of Windows. Sometimes the PC would freeze then 3 minutes later the BSOD would appear and it's stuck at 0% with CRITICAL PROCESS DIED error. What I was doing before that happened was just opening some images and chatting on Facebook with a friend.
The troubleshooting I did the past few days are:
I tried to remove the unit from the case and installed Windows on two separate NVMEs: Kingston, bought January 2022 and Samsung, bought June 2023.
On Kingston I managed to play AC Origins for 45 mins roaming around at High Settings (It did not crash) but on Samsung (I haven't even got to the point of the open world and it crashes immediately). Same driver version, same OS version, same temps. I tried to test this a couple of times like 4 tries and it happened the same. No crashes on Kingston, crashes immediately on Samsung. I suspected it's the Samsung SSD at fault especially considering that I bought it June 2023 and the issue started happening around September 2023.
Now come last week, the "Sometimes the PC crashes on the "Welcome" loading screen of Windows. Sometimes the PC would freeze then 3 minutes later the BSOD would appear and it's stuck at 0% with CRITICAL PROCESS DIED error. What I was doing before that happened was just opening some images and chatting on Facebook with a friend." happened even with the Kingston SSD. The game crashes just after clicking Continue (while showing loading animation) on Hollow Knight.
As for the temps I have monitored it and the CPU does not go higher than 70C and the GPU does not go higher than 70C. Utilization of GPU is 100%. I am also not overclocking anything.
I am thinking it could be an issue with the Motherboard or PSU. Please help. I just want to determine the cause of the issue. I am quite sure that software problem is out of the equation and so is the GPU but I could be wrong. Any help or suggestion is appreciated. I don't have enough money yet to upgrade my parts and just want to fix what I can. Thank you!

I genuinely feel like I'm missing something, even a quarter turn on one to get it to thread massively overlifts the other side. When i do manage to get the otherside to contact with the other screw, it just wont tighten.
I'm building my first pc, any suggestion will help, tnx !
What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.
Mainly gaming.
If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)
I'm looking to finally put to work my LG 34GN850-B (3440 x 1440 144Hz) on fairly new games.
What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?
3000-3500 USD.
In what country are you purchasing your parts?
Chile and Amazon.com
Post a draft of your potential build here.

Now that I have more disposable income I'm planning to go SFF.
This build is costing me ~3.400 USD, building a PC in Chile is generally more expensive than the US.
This motherboard I had came with a Coolermaster 212 Evo I believe. I couldn’t put it back together so I bought a new cooler to replace it but these 4 stand offs (hexagonal I believe?) are stopping me from finishing this build. Is there a good way about to approaching these?
I was settled on a Asus ROG Strix B760-F Gaming (250€) but I noticed in the specs it only mentions DDR4 memory as being supported. any idea?
Back in the days when I was cool and had some money, I was building / upgrading my own PCs, since then I had two kids, turned into a tired, drooling zombie and lost touch with reality due to not being able to play games. I am slowly coming back to life, just to realise my PC can't handle new games, I'm broke, and I got no clue. Good starting point! (Also turns out I forgot how to reddit...). Overall I am super happy with what I've built last time I did it - 8 years ago, I squeezed out great mileage from my old companion, and OC'ed the shit out of him, but Dead Space is freezing no matter what I do and I doubt FF7 Rebirth will look appealing.
The goal is to update my PC at the lowest possible cost (total approx. £700) to be able to play games like FF7 Rebirth, Dead Space, Cyberpunk, etc, at 1440p, and to slowly introduce my son to gaming, which actually I can still do with my good ol' piece of fossil, with Lego Star Wars Complete Saga and the likes, but probably soon my PC will die anyway, and my son will need something more complex. Hence I need to future proof it for hardware updates.
Below please find the best I've done with the limited time and half brain I still have. If possible, I'd like to recycle what's possible for recycling, and update only the parts which will give considerable boost and/or allow serious OC, or won't fit the new build, and somehow make it all upgrade open for when I have a better budget for CPU and memory. I don't care about RGB, future proofing for super expensive shit, got no brand loyalty. Some parts are fairly new, as due to breaks I've replaced with modern stuff, so I won't list them, and I will never get rid of my beloved museum grade Logitech Z-2300 speakers :)
I will greatly appreciate your comments regarding what I've chosen, and any tips for the stuff I had no clue about. I presume my son will appreciate even more ;)
