Finally have one!

After about a year of on and off searching for a monitor that didn’t give me significant eye strain I finally have my monitor. Amazon refurbished HP X34. I got tired of having to compromise with VA panels and having to compromise with motion blur and smearing, and this one fit the bill. I tried several OLEDs and can’t do them, and another IPS UW that I can’t do. All of them gave me some type of eye fatigue. This one did for about a week, and I tried again a week later and just pushed through it….we are now fatigue free. One of the things I can’t handle is a wide color gamut, and while this one is a bit wider than standard, it doesn’t bother me.

Some of you will remember the desk and the setup from all the posts I made about which one to get. Feels good to be able to play again and not have any issues.

How to improve my work space

I just ordered a second monitor, so my main would be a 34 inch and second would be a 27 inch. Main: Aw3423dwf Second: Aw2724DM

I’m getting a dual arm to hold both monitors, and potentially some lighting (looking at the Nanoleaf hexagon wood ones).

What else should I do to organize it better? Also need some recommendation for cable management as well

Do games put important stuff near the left and right edges of 21:9 monitors?

When running on an ultrawide 21:9 monitor in full-screen mode, what fraction of games put important game elements such as minimaps and health bars in the "extra" screen real estate near the left and right edges of the screen? I ask because peculiarities of my vision mean I'd likely need to turn my head to focus in the extra real estate (especially near the corners), which would slow me down.

New 34GN850, 1 dead pixel. Help.

Hello everyone, I recently purchased an LG 34GN850-B from the Walmart deal and I've been absolutely loving it. Unfortunately, it came with a dead pixel on the most upper center of the screen. I've tried https://www.jscreenfix.com/fix.html and shutting off/on the power to try and see if it was maybe a stuck pixel but nope it's dead.

I'm not sure what to do next. I'd like to get a replacement but I'm not sure on who to go to. Apparently LG only accepts 12+ dead pixels for RMA? Does anyone know if Walmart can allow replacements?

Anyone running a 49 or a 57 with a vertical monitor?

Wondering how you like it? What do you use the vertical monitor for? What size vertical are you using?

Strange artifacting and flashing on Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo?

Hi all, I just inherited this monitor from my partner after he upgraded to two OLED models. Every once in a while when the computer wakes up from sleep, it glitches out as shown in the video. It more frequently does a quick white flash when I'm playing a game, something I've read is pretty standard bullshit with Samsung.

I submitted a service ticket and some rando called me and said there's no service centers in my area so I'm SOL bye and hung up. Is there really nothing I can do? Are these both hardware issues? Thanks in advance for your help!

Two Samsung G9 49" or one Samsung G9 57" for the same price?

Should I go for dual 49" or just a single 57"?

Planning on using the monitor for productivity (60%) and some gaming (40%)

Dual 49" will cost about the same as a single 57" where I am.

2 monitor setup

Currently I have a Dell S2722DGM and I'm loving it for play and work on my computer. I'm debating getting a second one but am worried about seeing a big gap between the monitors and am not looking to spend $700+ on a 40" or more monitor. Anyone ever double up on this model and what's your experience with it?

Any idea when OLED gen 3 ultra wides will be available?

I can’t seem to find any information on when OLED ultrawides specifically will get gen 3 Samsung displays. Am I missing something or is there really no info on this yet? And if not, is there a list of monitors that currently have gen 3 that aren’t ultra wide?

57” G9 Odessey ultra wide into a Mac Mini M4 Pro

I’m updating my computer for the first time in 15 years. Quick question: is the best way to connect this for the highest resolution DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 cable? Thanks 🖖🏼

My first ultrawide monitor and need help please

I’m on the hunt for an ultrawide monitor and I’d love your thoughts on a few options. I’m leaning towards an IPS display because VA panels aren’t worth it until you’re spending a fortune, and the ghosting issue with the Samsung G5 Odyssey has left me a bit wary. And also i will be using it with my work laptop that is a Dell i7 and my personal macbook air m3 16 gb ram for some basic games. And if ever I buy a PS5 I can use the same monitor but that might be next year.

Here are the two monitors I’m considering:

  1. MSI MAG401QR: This one has a USB-C connection and a KVM feature, which is really handy. I got it for $279 on Black Friday.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-mag401qr-40-ultrawide-qhd-155hz-1ms-freesync-premium-gaming-monitordisplayport-hdmiusb-type-c-black/6544811.p?skuId=6544811

  1. LG 34GN850-B: This one has nano IPS, but it’s missing some features like KVM and USB-C. I got it for $329 on sale.

https://www.amazon.com/LG-34GN850-B-Inch-UltraGear-Compatibility/dp/B086XLLG28

I’ll be checking both of them out, but I’d really appreciate your advice on which one to keep since this is my first time buying a monitor. Thanks a bunch!

You think Gigabyte 3070Ti will handle a 3440x1440 21:9 monitor in gaming?

I mean demanding games on high settings.

49" Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SC) display issues

I just set my new G9 monitor and can't get the text to look decent. Furthermore, the menus and settings don't match the manual and lots of them are greyed out. Text on this monitor look like it does when you plug in a TV into a PC rather than a real monitor. The UI is also a smart tv UI, not like other monitors.

I've tried firmware update, clear type text adjustments, messed with the settings that are available.

You guys have any other recommendations?

So hard to find an IPS 34" Curved Monitor

I am building a new PC, and looking for a 34" Ultrawide. It's mostly for work, so productivity, coding, and almost never for games. However, I have not been able to find a solid option, been researching for the past few days. Here are my requirements:

  1. IPS Panel
  2. At least 120 Hz
  3. PbP/PiP (need to be able to simultaneously use with a laptop and my PC)
  4. min QHD/4K Res

Optionally, Curved, and built-in-kvm

Here are the closest ones I could find:

  1. Asus ROG XG349C - meets all req, but is old, sold out and expensive
  2. LG 34BN850B - meets all req, but sold out
  3. Gigabyte M34WQ -Not curved, and sold out near me :(
  4. LG 34WQ75-c - 60Hz is too low in 2024
  5. LG 34GP63-a - VA Panel
  6. Samsung Odyssey G5 - VA Panel

I feel like it's either IPS and low refresh rate, or VA and 144Hz, why is there nothing in between!?

I even considered some low end OLEDs like the MSI MAG341CPQ, LG 800R, but Im concerned about burn-in and text not being sharp, so I'd stick to IPS for now.
Trying to decide between LG 34WQ75 and 34GP63. Please lmk if you have come across any other option

Ascended into the community

Regular odyssey G9 finally setup! Mostly productivity but some light gaming on it will come. We are moving this Summer so I have plans for a very simple office setup that will remove the TV from above. Until then excited to get to use it as is.

Only wish this thing had two display ports so I could optimally use both my gaming PC and work MacBook. Is there anything I could do to get optimal function for both?

Odyssey G8 USB-C question

Howdy.

I'm looking to switch over to HDMI 2.1 since I'm experiencing some of the common issues people do with DP 1.4 w/ the G8; however, I can't for the life of me find an micro HDMI 2.1 where I live at the moment, but I've stumbled upon some HDMI to USB-C cables with 2.1 support.

Would that work out when using it on PC and connecting it to the GPU (RTX 4080 in this case), and are there any downsides to it? I've never really tried this before, so I'd like to find that out before buying the thing for nothing and wasting my time.

Gaming recommendations to show off the benefits of ultrawide and OLED

Looking for recommendations to specifically show off the benefits of ultrawide and OLED? (currently using a 4K 32" LED Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 but want to give ultrawide a try)

Will eventually want a 57" dual UHD monitor but thought I'd test out ultrawide/OLED first whilst graphics cards are catching up to that amount of pixels.

Picked up a Phillips Evnia 49M2C8900L 144hz 49" 5120 x 1440 screen to try it out. I've been a bit of a 4K snob for nearly 10 years so the low vertical resolution will no doubt annoy me but will try and give it a fair shake so see if I prefer OLED to mini LED.

A Kingdom Come Deliverance replay is on my list but as that is a 100 hour game any shorter games I could run through first would be great.

Anyone know if the Acer Nitro 34" UW 240hz monitor is a good buy?

I'm looking at the Acer Nitro 34" UWQHD 3440x1440 Curved 240Hz 0.5ms (GTG). It's a VA Panel. Hoping someone who has this can tell me if it has smearing and ghosting. I see it has 2x2.1 HDMI ports. Great for my PS5 as well. On PC I play COD and a lot of iRacing. Thanks.

Kogan Monitors

Does anyone here have experience with Kogan monitors? As far as I’m aware they’re and Australian brand (where I live), IPS at this resolution and refresh rate for AU$579 (376usd) just seems too good to be true. Will probably order anyway just to try it out..

My take on LG 38WR85QC-W

After some thinking I chose the LG 38WR85QC-W out of the

  • Dell U4025QW
  • LG 38WR85QC-W
  • Lenovo Y34wr-30

The reason for those 3 is HW KVM, high refresh rate, no OLED.

Lenovo felt like very little upgrade over my previous 3440x1440 monitor.

Dell seemed to be much more expensive version of the LG with a bit higher resolution, much higher DPI and same drawbacks.
Here are the good things:

  • Gaming is very good.
  • KVM works as expected for switching between macbook pro and desktop
  • Size and resolution are good for my use.

Things that could be better:

  • Dedicated input switch button - it takes 4 clicks on the the monitor to switch the input.

  • In PBP mode, when i want to switch the input, it also swaps the video - why ?

Things that are bad:

  • Light bleeds

  • black levels

  • color profiles

  • HDR performance

Overall. since I'm using it mainly for work (codding), it is fine. Kinda expensive but fine. Unfortunately, my previous monitor started to die, so I couldn't wait for a mini LED ultrawide with 5k resolution like the Dell.

Trying To Upgrade But Can't Find Good Answers.

So, I have a a Sceptre C305W-2560UN. VA panel, 85z, 1080p, curved 21:9. It's been pretty reliable but it obviously isn't the best. I've been trying to upgrade during cyber Monday, but I keep getting a lot of mixed information, as well as advice that goes directly against my lived experiences. I'm also having issues figuring stuff out because there are little to no direct comparisons to the monitor I am using.

My main confusion centers around VA black smearing. Some people are saying that this issue is so egregious it warrants staying away from VAs all together. This is highly confusing to me because even this cheap amazon monitor (the Sceptre) has very minimal black smearing (albeit at a relatively low 85hz). With a page of white text on black backgrounds, I can read everything while scrolling perfectly fine. It's almost imperceptible. My main issue with it is just how old its getting, as I've had it for 5 years and want something better. (I also want to use the Sceptre for something else once I retire it.)

I'm also confused because IPS panels have much worse contrast, and since I use my Sceptre as my main monitor, I wouldn't want to upgrade for something that makes YouTube and Anime look much worse just to gain a very a slight edge in gaming. I just want to have more fun in faster paced multiplayer games, thus I want a smoother experience with a higher refresh rate.

Also there is a price concern. IPS panels seem to consistently be 1.5x-2x more expensive than their VA counterparts, and I'm highly questioning why people think that is so worth it when in my experience the black smearing on most well built VAs is not nearly as egregious as people say it is. I love tech but I do not make that much money.

I've been looking at the dell s3422dwg but the comments around VA panels have left me confused. I looked at the LG 34GP83A-B but it's hard to warrant spending that much money. It's easier to justify the Dell because the deals during cyber monday are much better, pushing it well under 300 dollars. I also looked at the cheaper variants of the widescreen Samsung Odyssey line but have heard bad things about their build quality so I am unsure.

TLDR: I'm looking for a 21:9 1ms 1080p-1440p 144hz gaming monitor. A large issue is not being able to find direct comparisons between my Sceptre and the more widely used brands. The dell s3422dwg looks appealing but the odd statements I've seen around VA black smearing has left me confused. My budget is only ~250-300 so i can only get a $400+ monitor if it's on sale during cyber Monday. Any advice/recommendations? Widescreen curved is a must for my use cases.

Anything helps just please don't recommend non-curved or non-widescreen monitors. Thanks <3

Am I ready for ascension?

Hello, just bought this build and I want to hear what you guys think. My aims are mostly for 1440p gaming while prioritizing fps over the highest settings.

I was really tempted to get an ultrawide (3440x 1440, 21:9, 34") monitor, but I have been seeing such conflicting statements about how much that actually tanks performance, and if I can comfortably run games that way with these specs.

Thanks in advance!

--Specs--

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600

Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 X V2

RAM: Kingston FURY Beast 32 GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3200 CL 16

GPU: XFX Speedster QICK 319 Radeon RX 6750 XT 12 GB
