Rules

  1. NO PERSONAL ATTACKS - Please keep comments constructive! Personal attacks, insults, and bad faith criticism of users equipment or music will not be tolerated. Fair warning to all: racism, sexism, hate speech, political intolerance regardless of viewpoint (especially any witch-hunting or brigading), deadnaming, or harassment of any sort will result in an instant and permanent ban.

  2. NO SALES POSTS - Sale/trade/buy posts are not allowed. Please go to r/synths4sale instead. Links to uncommonly great specials/deals are allowed. If you are the manufacturer or developer of a commercial product, please message the mods before posting, but we will usually allow new product promotion as long as you stay to answer questions.

  3. ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR OWN CONTENT - Links to streams of your music are allowed only if you intend on fielding questions about your production and your use of synthesizers in your music. If you are not willing to field questions then your post will be removed.

  4. NO LOW-EFFORT CONTENT - Low-effort content includes: memes, jokes, pictures of boxes/receipts/shipping notifications, pictures of gear without explanation, self-promotion without participation, etc. Posts violating the spirit of this rule may be removed at the moderators discretion.

  5. LEAVE A COMMENT ON LINK/PHOTO/VIDEO POSTS - Link, photo, and video posts must include a meaningful comment by the OP. “Here is a track I made” or "look at my new synth" is not sufficient since the point is to encourage discussion. Posts lacking a comment will be automatically removed after 1 hour.

  6. NO PRICE SHAMING - Some equipment doesn’t cost much, some costs a lot. That is ok. Posts that contain insults, attacks, or conspiracy theories based on your opinion of the value of gear will be deleted.

  7. NO PIRACY - This is an instant ban. If you use our community to encourage any sort of IP theft you will be banned, no questions asked. Support the people that make all of this possible.

  8. APPROACH CONTROVERSIAL TOPICS WITH CARE - Discussion posts that are inflammatory, aggressive, or otherwise likely to provoke flame wars, intentionally or not, will be removed at the moderators’ discretion. When appropriate, users may be asked to resubmit their discussion topic with a more neutral tone.

Roland P-6 loop points for sustain

Hey is there a way to set loop points in the middle of a sample. Like if sampling a piano keep the attack only when first pressed but setting a loop point for when it's continued to be held down?

Should I get the Moog GMA?

Is it worth it to get the Grandmother in this synth market currently? Found a listing near me for $500 and i'm unsure if I should.

Why does my Roland S-1 do this when I connect it to Ableton Live over USB (Mac)? I've not got the hold button on and the MIDI settings for the synth are at default.

Roland Groove Gear/Merch

Who remembers all the cool Roland Groove merchandise and grabbed one of these backs. I used to carry my MC-808 in this.

Buying advice - Yamaha MODX, Roland FA-0X, Juno DS/XPS30

For context, I'm a jazz keys player and I've been invited to a touring band. The playing style is not very demanding (reggae - cumbia), so I need a good, sturdy, and light board, 61 or 73 keys, hopefully balanced outputs, to replace my YC88 that I've been painfully moving around. I'll be plaaying APs, EPs, Organs and last but not least: deep, cheesy synths.

I've considered reducing to the YC61, but as a touring act in latinamerica, with the level of crime in some places I'd like to keep it below $1200.

Been eyeing the following boards in the used and new markets, below $1500 US.

- Yamaha MODX6/MODX7
- Yamaha MX61
- Roland FA06
- Roland XPS30/DS61

Can anyone comment on these boards, and what would be the most battle proof of the bunch? How about playing shows, setlist management? Keybeds?

thanks in advance!

A new record: under 2 minutes between pressing the "notify when in stock" button and the call from Sweetwater :)

To be fair, I like the support I get from Sweetwater, I'm just amused.

The call was also helpful - they already have more pre-orders for the multi/Poly than Korg can guarantee them before year end, so I hit the pre-order button to at least get in the queue.

Here's hoping Santa Korg delivers.

Behringer 2600 keep detuning itself

I own a Behringer 2600 and for a while now it keep detuning itself. Not only one oscillator, the 3 keep drifting in and out of tune randomly every 30 or 60 seconds, sometime more frequently. I don't know if it is something normal, something I can resolve myself or if it is the synth who has a problem. Can someone explain to me what can be the cause ?

(I'm french, and my english is not that good, pardon me)

Roland E-10. Looking for info.

Hello. I’m curious if anyone knows anything about the Roland e-10. I haven’t been able to find much about it online, except for some specs and an old manual.

I know they were a cheap synth in the late 80s-early 90s, but what else? They use LA, but does that mean it’s comparable to a D10? Are they programmable, and if so, are they as difficult to program as a D10/D50? There’s a guy selling one near me for $30, so I figured it’s worth it to try, but just curious about it.

Thanks.

Polyphonic synth on a small budget?

I force myself to be incredibly frugal when it comes to buying gear, as a result I have a handful of cheap mono synths. The most polyphony I have in any of my instruments is 3 notes (volcas keys, FM). What would be your recommendation of a poly synth of any type for someone who refuses to spend more than $300 at once on gear?

I also should note I prefer to buy the forgotten about/unwanted/ shrugged off kinda stuff.

Beginner friendly Groovebox - a few questions

Hello fellow Redditors.

I Hope this is the right subreddit for my questions.

I do music production as hobby and until now I only played around with FL Studio on my MacBook Pro. I never got in touch with any kind of Hardware. I now want to get my first "Groovebox", something I can use standalone without my MacBook, for playing around and getting creative (but maybe also to record into FL Studio here and there).

I did a little bit of research and stumbled across two options:

1: Novation Circuit (Tracks) 2: Roland MC-101

As far as I understand, both can be used completely "DAWless" and both are pretty much the same price range. Besides that, are they able to record into a DAW to maybe do changes to the created music?

Do have any other suggestions for another device that fits my needs?

The genres I am into are mostly liquid Drum and Bass, Dark Ambient and some Dark Techno.

Looking forward to get some tips, Inspiration and suggestions.

Thank you all in advance! :)

Synths with best VST editor

In your opinion which synths have best VST editor to control it via PC/MAC.

For me it's very important, my favourite so far was Moog sub37 editor

Thanks

Farfisa Compact or Technics SX-KN6000 with a Farfisa V VST?

I've been thinking of getting back into keys recently after kind of falling off of it a few years back. I don't have a keyboard right now, I'm either thinking of getting a Farfisa Compact or a Technics SX-KN6000.

I always wanted a Farfisa since I'm into 60s pop and new wave and loved the sound of those old transistor organs. There's one near me for $850.

However, I was wondering if I should get something more versatile like a keyboard workstation. I'm thinking about a Technics SX-KN6000 because it has a good sound and it doesn't break the bank too much at $600. I could get something cheaper but I don't want anything too cheap since I played a $20 Casio keyboard from Goodwill and absolutely hated how it sounded. I want something that sounds good so I'll actually be inspired to play. Then for my Farfisa sounds I could just get a MIDI interface for my PC and buy the Farfisa V VST for another $150.

Thoughts?

Juno D and iPad

My iPad and my synth don’t want to talk to each other. I have a usc c to lightning cable that should work as a midi and audio connection. I had an fp30x that hooked up no problem but it had no other settings like the Juno does. Any insights you have to try would be appreciated. There are settings like those above in the menus. I have tried lots of combinations already. I have Logic Pro on the iPad and all I get is “iPad microphone and speaker” on the audio side and nothing on the midi.

Help please. I want to use my hydrasynth as a Midi controller.

https://preview.redd.it/38kurlj2ecyd1.jpg?width=792&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afb3bd3c4f3fea051f05c641cc16e807aee980d3

I tried connecting it both thru Midi in/out to my MotuM2 interface and usb directly to my laptop. Both dont seem to be able to open as Midi devices on reaper.

My synth works fine going thru in stereo. I dont know where the problem lies and what else i can try. Thank you.

Need advice, 1) Laptop + Fl Studio + Plugins + midi controller or 2) Dedicated Stage Synth for Live performances

Hello

I am joining a band for live performances and currently my setup is:

  • Laptop
  • FL Studio
  • Studio Monitors
  • 88 keys weighted midi controller
  • MPC Studio
  • Several VST plugins for music production and sounds like East West, Fabfilter pro q3, Serum and others
  • Audio Interface Focusrite with this LINE OUTPUTS: LEFT and RIGHT – 2 x ¼” (6.35 mm) TRS jack sockets; +10 dBu output level (variable), electronically balanced.

I am unsure if its worth to get a Stage Synth for Live performances or I can keep my current setup?

If current setup is good, what do I need to add to it?

Just received my used NTS-1, paired it with this old iRig Keys.

This is my first ever synth. The only annoyance is that my keyboard doesn't have split MIDI and power in (they're both handled by a micro B port), so I can't connect it directly to the NTS-1. I have to hook both up to a DAW and reroute the signal. In the near future, I'll consider a controller with MIDI out so I can simply use an adapter.
