Rules

  1. NO PERSONAL ATTACKS - Please keep comments constructive! Personal attacks, insults, and bad faith criticism of users equipment or music will not be tolerated. Fair warning to all: racism, sexism, hate speech, political intolerance regardless of viewpoint (especially any witch-hunting or brigading), deadnaming, or harassment of any sort will result in an instant and permanent ban.

  2. NO SALES POSTS - Sale/trade/buy posts are not allowed. Please go to r/synths4sale instead. Links to uncommonly great specials/deals are allowed. If you are the manufacturer or developer of a commercial product, please message the mods before posting, but we will usually allow new product promotion as long as you stay to answer questions.

  3. ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR OWN CONTENT - Links to streams of your music are allowed only if you intend on fielding questions about your production and your use of synthesizers in your music. If you are not willing to field questions then your post will be removed.

  4. NO LOW-EFFORT CONTENT - Low-effort content includes: memes, jokes, pictures of boxes/receipts/shipping notifications, pictures of gear without explanation, self-promotion without participation, etc. Posts violating the spirit of this rule may be removed at the moderators discretion.

  5. LEAVE A COMMENT ON LINK/PHOTO/VIDEO POSTS - Link, photo, and video posts must include a meaningful comment by the OP. “Here is a track I made” or "look at my new synth" is not sufficient since the point is to encourage discussion. Posts lacking a comment will be automatically removed after 1 hour.

  6. NO PRICE SHAMING - Some equipment doesn’t cost much, some costs a lot. That is ok. Posts that contain insults, attacks, or conspiracy theories based on your opinion of the value of gear will be deleted.

  7. NO PIRACY - This is an instant ban. If you use our community to encourage any sort of IP theft you will be banned, no questions asked. Support the people that make all of this possible.

  8. APPROACH CONTROVERSIAL TOPICS WITH CARE - Discussion posts that are inflammatory, aggressive, or otherwise likely to provoke flame wars, intentionally or not, will be removed at the moderators’ discretion. When appropriate, users may be asked to resubmit their discussion topic with a more neutral tone.

“Kunta Kinte” riff again, showing off the Mono/Poly’s voice rotation trick

Yes, I’m playing this fun little riff again, conveniently in the key of D#m (IYKYK).

Someone here recently asked for details on my favorite Mono/Poly trick, check the second half to hear it in action. I’ll leave a comment below with more details.

Deepmind editor slow, sluggish and even crashes at times

I just downloaded the lastest version of the Deepmind editor for PC from the official Behringer website but it is pretty slow and unresponsive. It takes more than 8 seconds to start the app and it often crashes out of nowhere.

The app also feels sluggish and slow. Clicking on the tabs or any of the parameters takes a full second to open the screen/dialog.
Other than that, the app seems to work just fine. It connects to the Deepmind and patches are getting transferred without an issue.

Loading a new sysex preset bank though always results in a crash.

I have a fairly powerful laptop (Ryzen 7, 16 GB RAM) running Win 11. Nothing running the background except for Chrome.

As I read a lot of praise about the editor, I can't help but think that this is not how the app is supposed to behave. Any ideas?

Drum machine recommendations to pair with omnichord?

My girlfriend has an omnichord OM300 which she loves and has been learning songs and wants to write songs on it. The only problem is she doesn't really like the built in drum sounds. Has anyone got recommendations for a good drum machine to pair with it? Preferably something with a built in speaker like the omnichord that she can just plug in and play. She will be looking to record and perform live further down the line but for right now it's mainly just for getting creative. It doesn't need to be able to sync up with the omnichord's tempo either. €150-200 would be ideal

RasPi Based Synths

Thanks to a previous post on here, I just discovered the Zynthian device and am very tempted to buy.

Before I I do, is there any other Raspberry Pi based kit (synths, drum machines, groove boxes) I should investigate?

PSA: Please protect your work when leasing out equipment!

We had a recent controversy in Norway where one of the big new names of the scene, Ramon, got called out by his keys player for underpaying him which made the Keys player quit. Lots of freelance work in Norway is unionized so the call out was justified. it caused a scene in the media and all that.

Now here is where it gets fucking spicy

The live production team for his tour asked to lease the Keys players' equipment for the remaining tour, to which he said yes. in a weird turn of events they cancelled and voided the deal before the first show.

Yesterday we found out why.
They Extracted every single session, backing track, midi track, sample and preset from all his gear.
And continued using it live Without notifying anyone.

So this is a PSA
if you're not allready doing so, start including clauses protecting your assets programmed into synths, drum machines, samplers. Session programming like FX chains, backingtracks and midi files.

edit: clarifyed who did what to whom

Help me find a stick-sized barebones PCB MIDI sequencer with a psychedelic print that was released recently

Saw this sequencer earlier, it’s pretty popular, but I can’t for life remember its name. When I tried to look it up, Google comes up with nothing.

Here’s what I remember:

  • It’s an elongated stick-sized barebones PCB with a cool psychedelic print

  • Has USB-C

  • Features “piano” keys and a 8 (16?) step sequencer

  • All keys are made out of miniature actuators ala pocket operator

  • Made by a company based in Europe (and probably in limited quantities)

Saw it in a few videos, but can’t remember the name. Any help would be appreciated

BEST semi modular synth for price

Hi everyone, i was looking to a semi modular synth to patch with my Edge, but im searching patchbays and functions that provides random and probability sources and good analog sound for sure, sequencer, capable for drums and synth sounds and good modulation sources...

I have seen the dreadbox typhon which ISnt semi modular but sounds good for agressive sounds and acid that i look for, and experimental harsh noises, was thinking about the crave that has good sound and assing functions, i have sell the grind because sounds so digital and low and didnt like the seq, the westpest and east doesnt convence me, the minibrute 2 s maybe yes, but IS so Big and idk if its capable of experimental sounds and the patchbay is límited, the softpop2 maybe IS expensive...

Any more suggestions at 400€ máximum? i see the mother 32 at 400 it will be good with my edge? but for that price could i get the crave and the typhon, or crave and minibrute 2s. Really thanks.

How can I use the Moog Theremini usb MIDI as a cutoff controller

I know the theremini sends out CC messages and I can get it working on my laptop, but I would rather connect it directly to my keyboard and use it as a Cutoff controller. I've tried different ways and a classical usb to MIDI adapter (for old keyboard MIDI -> laptop but in reverse :) ) but nothing makes my keyboard detect it. The keyboard is a genos2.

Is there some special adapter for that? Is it really not meant to be directly plugged into instruments?

Moog Grandmother overdrive or distortion pedals like Sub 37

I have a Moog GM and it can get pretty nicely saturated when abusing the gain stages, but I absolutely love the sound of the Subsequent 37. I want to figure out if adding some overdrive and distortion pedals to the insert point can get mono patches on the GM sounding close.

Thank you in advance!!

Looking for a website

A while back I had found a website that explained how waveforms worked. It was similar to the pudding article, but you could draw your own waveform on a graph and listen to it live. Also it was a superbly made website all throughout. If anyone has any ideas please let me know !

Need desktop synth recommendations

Wizards of r/synthesizers, I beg thy wisdom!

I need recommendations on what desktop synth to use to achieve an accordion like sound. I’d like a smallish box unit I can plug my own separate breath controller and midi keyboard into, so that I can play it like one would play a melodica.

I found this YouTube video that achieves something like the sound I’m after using a Blofeld desktop synth:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc2tpUUu8fU&pp=ygUPYWNjb3JkaW9uIHN5bnRo

However, I would like something a little simpler than the Blofeld, ideally without the screens and menu diving. Something less expensive would be great too.

Can anyone recommend other desktop synth units that can achieve a similar sound?

CHALLENGE WITH DIVA AND MAKING HERBIE HANCOCK'S CHAMELEON

Hey hey I am taking this mandatory class at school and I am struggling with the assignment of making Herbie Hancock's Chameleon bass sound on DIVA. It has to start like the screenshot, so there are things I can't use. I always reach an ok sound and then ruin it trying to add details anyone got a recipe to make it? Deadline is tonight. Also a recipe on a Juno60 or TAL-U-X would work.https://share.icloud.com/photos/042LWTJO_SI4oj5XOIT6oJ4iw the screenshot

I recently bought digitone keys, it was super hard to get here in Ireland. Do you guys think it is better to have just digitone without the keys?

Just jamming at the new place, cleaning the air with sound with Digitone keys. I am happy with the keys but it is heavy as hell so impossible to move around with.

Synth keyboard or midi-keyboard for a starter

Hello,

I'm completely new to musical instruments, but I would like to buy one to start learning. I was thinking about a midi-keyboard or synth keyboard. I know vaguely what the difference is (synth produces own sounds, midi does not), however I'm not sure at which is best suitable for a complete starter. And are there any specific models you would recommend? Price range is flexible, don't wanna cheapen out as I'd like it to last me a few years without upgrading, however don't wanna overspend as a complete beginner on features I wouldn't need.

I heard you guys like the pics of synthesizer rigs. So here is mine. As they say, this isn’t even my final form🙂 Unfortunately, lately I don’t have much time to actually play this thing, so don’t be too jealous😅

Do you need an audio interface to hear the minifreak? If what are so good options at a budget price

I don’t have an audio interface so i don’t want to fuck myself over with a synth i can’t hear.

JD-800 in Juno X

I've enjoyed the JD-800 in Roland Cloud, so I bought a lifetime key and added it to my Juno X. All of that has worked well, but I was surprised that the second bank of patches in my Juno X are different from the second bank on the software JD-800.

Is there a way to add those patches to my Juno X?

Thanks-
