Pro-tips
Soundcloud is great, and free, for posting tunes. Some apps (like MultiTrack DAW) have built in support.
There are many IOS content producers who are prolific, some of them offering free app codes and always great advice on using the apps. Please don't drive them away by reporting them as spam or downvoting their submissions, we all benefit from their involvement on this sub.
Want to collaborate with others?
Enable Downloads on your Soundcloud submissions and mention in your submission that you don't mind if others manipulate or "remix" your works. (You should label your uploads with a CC "non-commercial/share-alike" license.)
Alternately, feel free to zip up your GarageBand/NanoStudio/etc project (not a "mixdown"), upload it somewhere, and post it here if you'd like to collaborate with people by trading a project back and forth.
Put [Collaborate] somewhere in your post title if you desire collaboration. Maybe [Listen/Collaborate] if you're combining the two.

New to iPad Music?
Obviously do a search for topics of interest, there have been quite a few posts over the years and it is likely someone has had the issue. Also consider visiting the Audiobus Wiki for some expert advice on app setup and techniques.
Unfortunately our prior guru at discchord for daily apps news and videos is done. Was nice to check this out each day!
Trying to find a new app?
The Music App Guide is a helpful resource for finding apps recommended by the community.
(The Discchord website links above have gone down, they were maintained by the original creator of the sub. If somebody is interested in filling that app review niche let the mods know.)
App Creators:
Self-promotion is not frowned upon, if you're a music app developer. Feel free to link to it, talk about it, throw a contest, give out a few promo codes to people, etc.

This was a lot of fun to make. Neither of us are ācontent creatorsā, so it was a blast to try and exercise that muscle a bit. Korg Gadget ROCKED - it did everything except the piano, bass guitar, and horns. For me, itās the fastest environment to get a tune sequenced. Happy Halloween!!š
I started using the Ipad with Cubasis, and really love the tactile feeling. Sometimes some small elements are not the easiest to touch, so I am considering an apple pencil. What is your experience with that? Does it improve the work flow significantly, or is it something useful only in very limited situations?
I have an Ipad 9th generation, so I only can go for the first generation pen.
I'm having an issue here trying to get audio layer to auto sample external gear. The routing in AUM looks right.
When I use my MIDI controller I can see the signal pass through audiolayer I'm able to auto detect the key ranges I want to play. I also see the audio signal from my external device passed through audio layer and I see the little waveform. So that means audiolayer is receiving a midi signal.
When I try to sample with audiolayers to autosample piece of external gear. My external gear detects the signal coming from audiolayer is midi transmission.
So I must be doing something wrong. The audio is routed properly. Maybe somewhere in the settings or something? Anyhow could be much appreciated
Iāve been trying to find a sequencer or arpeggiator which is suitable for making slowly evolving ambient music like Steve Roach for example. Something that can play a note here and there, like even once a minute for example. If it could generate new notes that would be a bonus. Most of the generative music apps Iāve tried have been better suited to trying to make Philip Glass pieces (fugue machine, polyphase, xynthesizer for example). Much of the issue I have is that I canāt make the tempos work. I could work at 60 bpm but even that is too fast to generate one note a minute in any of those apps, also due to bar limits of 64. I wish these apps had the ability to slow a lane down to say 1/4 or 1/8th of the frequency. Fugue machine gets close, but only if I make the bpm ridiculously low, and then that messes up sync for everything else like my external drum machine, my buddyās modular rig, etc. poly2 comes close, but I canāt tell if o can slow the friend notes enough, and Drambo seems too bleeding edge - I downloaded a generative patch but it crashes repeatedly. This is meant to be improvised, so I donāt want to use a timeline based DAW, and probably wouldnāt have any generative capability then.
Thereās a hardware unit that has been rolling out called Liven, which Iāve been considering because itās sort of what Iām looking for, but Iād like to rule out using my iPad which seems like it could be perfectly suited. What Iām aiming for is a mix of slowly evolving notes , drones, and mildly chaotic generative. I would be loading midi synths and effects to drive from sequencers/drones. If anyone has any ideas Iād love to hear them. Thanks.
Recently found that Koala Sampler doesnāt have pitch scaling *and* time stretch at the same time: when you import a sample and play it with the keyboard mode, the pitch changes but so does the time, meaning the higher notes are shorter. Anyone know of a sampler app that has pitch scaling/time stretching and a keyboard mode or external MIDI keyboard support, and can be used as an AUV3 in a DAW? Iāve heard Beatmaker 3 can do the time stretching with the pitch scaling but am unsure if it can be used as an audio unit. Thanks for any insights!
Guysā¦you know when u export a track and it shows up on your voice memos app on your iphone? How can I send it back to Logic?
I deleted it without realizing from my iPadā¦and of courseā¦itās a banger
This is something I have been waiting for since release. Previewed but no release date as yet.
I'm comming from Cubasis. I want to use Scaler 2 in Logic. Essentially is the setup the same. I put Scaler 2 in MIDI FX, then select my midi instrument?I would try this myself but I'm working creating ideas without an ipad. Please note I want to record midi data only, not audio... so I don't want to use the mixer bus.
I can't find anything that direct and flexible. I wish i could integrate it to ableton haha.
Love the circular sequencing, love the elektron like step editing for almost any parameter... wish there was something close to it.
Hi,
I am considering getting the iPad mini. I will mainly use it for the synthesizer apps Waldorf Nave and Microwave, Borderlands and AUM.
I have used these apps using the 11" iPad Air before, and It worked really well. But this time i want to try a more compact iPad to carry around.
I usually don't run a lot of synthesizers at the same time through AUM, but one at a time.
Does anyone have any experience using these types of apps on the iPad mini?
Hello,
I'm wondering if there are any iPad apps that would add the following functionality to a basic MIDI controller (doesn't have to be all one app).
These are all features found onboard many MIDI keyboards, but would love to know if iPad could do it.
Also, bonus question. Anyone know an iPad app that has a "slicer" effect (can be found on this Yamaha CK demo here?
Thanks in advance for any help?
Have been using Quanta 1 for years and just went to Quanta 2, wonderful synth for sound design. The iPad version is 10% of the price of the identical VST, bonkers. https://www.audiodamage.com/products/ad055-quanta-2 not like any granular style synth I've used, very musical & detailed.
Hi redditors!
I only have an iPad Pro 5th Gen (17.6. IOS) and want to get into music and podcast production.
I am a musician but I dont have much experience in production and studio set up. Therefore, I wanted to ask you:
What I am aiming to do:
So if you have any recommendation, shoot away! Thank you for your help!
I have Octachron installed and is currently running on MacOS, i'd like to send the midi to a DAW in macOS(same machine) Is this possible?
Hey everyone,
Iām reintroducing two old iPads into my music workflow after a break and would love some advice. Hereās my setup:
ā¢ iMac running macOS Ventura 13.5
ā¢ Ableton Live 11
ā¢ Two iPads (6th gen on iPadOS 14.8 and 8th gen on iPadOS 15.4.1)
ā¢ Scarlett 18i20 interface
Iāve set up IDAM to handle audio out and MIDI in/out from both iPads, using them as an aggregate device with the Scarlett. The goal is to run multiple outputs from the iPads into Ableton for various drum machines and synths like Patterning, Fugue Machine, Tardigrain, Aparillo, etc. primarily for recording. This enables me to grab a guitar or use my hardware synths while making adjustments as and when needed.
Previously, I used AudioBus with Studiomux, which worked great, but Studiomux doesnāt seem to recognise either iPad when I load it in Ableton. The app also feels a bit clunkier than I remember.
Is there a better alternative, ideally with Ableton Link, to get multi-output functionality? Iāve read a bit about AUM but am unsure if it offers the specific routing Iām after. Any suggestions for a smooth workflow would be hugely appreciated!
I'm looking for an app where I can record a large series of notes, then have it auto chop those notes and then label them whatever it wants and then I can export them.
There will be about a 2-second delay between each note, so it shouldn't be hard for the app to distinguish a start and endpoint. Thank you!
wanted to get close to the push2 i use in studio for my away games controller. this feels pretty good w the added bonus of 16x4 encoders and 4 sequencers.
If it get one of the original 32-pin Apple Camera Connection kits, will I be able to use an iPad 2 for anything MIDI?
In case you, like me, have never found a free and dead easy way to share files between iPad and Windows, you can just use VLC and drag and drop files between the systems in your browser. I can't believe I didn't know this.
Does it suck? ā¤ļø
Sorry, for this nube questiion, and even after reading other post about this, I am still confused as I am new to the Ipad world.
I want to be able to use multiple apps and plugins at the same time (Animoog, Ruismaker Noir and other bram bros stuff, Moebius lab, borderlands FRMS, Spacecraft, Synth One, Erik Sigth's apps, and some VSTs) together in a live, improvised way, being able to easily switch back and forth, and also have everything synched. Having a DAW, or recording not really important.
What is the best and easiest way to do this? I am confused between AUM, Audiobus or if there is another option. Any suggestions? Ease of use is the most important thing. Thanx
I tried a few different cord types to see if that was the issue, but every time I plug in the pedal to the interface it kills the pedal battery. I was trying this with a Boss SL-2. If I try putting the pedal after the interface will it kill the battery? I want to ask before I have to replace any more 9 volt batteries. Many thanks!
