Pro-tips

  • Soundcloud is great, and free, for posting tunes. Some apps (like MultiTrack DAW) have built in support.

  • There are many IOS content producers who are prolific, some of them offering free app codes and always great advice on using the apps. Please don't drive them away by reporting them as spam or downvoting their submissions, we all benefit from their involvement on this sub.

Want to collaborate with others?
Enable Downloads on your Soundcloud submissions and mention in your submission that you don't mind if others manipulate or "remix" your works. (You should label your uploads with a CC "non-commercial/share-alike" license.)

Alternately, feel free to zip up your GarageBand/NanoStudio/etc project (not a "mixdown"), upload it somewhere, and post it here if you'd like to collaborate with people by trading a project back and forth.

Put [Collaborate] somewhere in your post title if you desire collaboration. Maybe [Listen/Collaborate] if you're combining the two.

Latency in AUM, buffer size ?

I have a question.

The buffer size in AUM, isn't it supposed to be like my desktop daw, only really affecting latency when you want to record something ?

Because i have an ipad 8, the basic one, and after a while i need to put the buffer size to 2048 because my dsp is going crazy otherwise.

And i could swear after i do there is a delay between the channels. Like i have Patterning 3 setup with a few multi-out channels for each drum hit, with a higher buffer size the beat feels disjointed.

Is there something i could do ? Am i even right about that or is it an impression ?

I'm going to get an Ipad Air M2 in a couple months so i imagine i won't have to touch the buffer size that much by then anyway.

Set up an iPad as a MIDI output device in Windows... without using AudioBus?

I want to expand the instruments options by using my iPad as an addicional synth (i.e. with GarageBand, Korg Gadget, Audiokit's King of FM, etc) and controlling it from FL Studio... but I start FL Studio after connecting my iPad to my (Windows) computer and it doesn't show up in the Output section.

The articles I've found suggest to install AudioBus in the iPad... but it's a paid app.

Is there any other way to do what I want? Or any free alternative to AudioBus?

Drambo still viable in late 2024?

After much research I bought an iPad pro 11 m4 just primarily to use drambo. And on features it was the right move, drambo has everything I need.

However, in practice it's just not working. The recorder and sampler crash consistently (I can crash sampler in 6 easy steps), the fact that with a slip of the finger I can wipe out an entire rack (delete module, oops you selected all first), and there's no undo to bring it back, potentially hours of work and sounds lost, sounds I will never be able to recreate. Autosave has never worked for me.

Is it because I'm on a newer ipad? Would an older one work better? Any ideas for helping me find a workflow that works with drambo would be greatly appreciated because I really like it and want to keep using it, but it keeps losing my work and the sampler is too unsafe to use

Wireless mini keyboard

Hi there, in a search for a couch-ready wireless keyboard I found the M-Vave SMK-25 II and that really works well and latency free (or probably practically).

Wired IEMs connected to my iPad mini and the M-vave connects immediately upon turning it on.

I’ll stop making promotion but thought I’d share.

Can I sample physical vinyl records using something like an mpd26 (or other models) with my iPhone.

Ive recently wanted to sample some of my records in my collection for music production. I don't know how at all, or even what I need. I found a mpd26 for pretty cheap and wondered if I could use that to sample. I don't have a pc or Mac just an iPhone. I was wondering if it was possible to sample physical records too. If someone could give some pointers or just a list of the things I could need that would be appreciated. Or even if it's possible. If so, what controllers or models should I get. (Preferably below 150)

Edit: I'm very new to music production and only have a m-cave Bluetooth midi right now.

Apogee Duet 3

Hows the compatibility with the newer USB C iPads/iphones? Thinking about entering the world of mobile recording for the first time. I currently use Logic x and would like to use the new Logic for iPad.

Debating delving into MiRack, but am curious: I'm enjoying using Drambo. Does MiRack offer anything I can't do with Drambo.

The learning curve for Drambo is relatively steep, but it seems to be able to do so much that I'm not sure I need another app.

Which iPad Pro should I buy for live performances with multiple plugins?

Hey everyone!

I’m planning to buy an iPad Pro primarily for live performances, where I’ll be running multiple effect plugins and synths. Most of my setup is geared towards processing effects with my OP-1, so I need something powerful enough to handle that smoothly.

I’m torn between the iPad Pro M1 with 1TB and 16GB RAM, and the iPad Air M2. Or should I buy an older version with usb c. My main concern is performance, as I’ll be using AUM to manage the plugins during live sets.

Which iPad would you recommend me please for this purpose?

Stylophone drone type app

https://stylophone.com/ds2-pre-order/

Hi,

What would be a good app to make sounds like the forthcoming Stylophone Drone synth?
I know Drambo could do it, but replicating this is beyond me.

Coming from a guitarist who uses a Superego+ pedal a lot.

Thanks!

Small Pedalboard Recommendations

I use my iPad to replace a lot of my pedals for both practicing and live (guitar) performance. But I’ve recognized that my dangling USB hub and audio interface are an accident waiting to happen. Does anyone have recommendations for a small pedalboard that’s easy to pack and carry that could house these two devices and maybe one more box? (Cross-posting in the iPadmusic and jazzguitar subs.)

Drambo vs Digitakt? And best "improv" jam tool?

Hello,

I'm still new to the iPad Music making world, having come from a Maschine MK3.

And it's been pretty incredible to see how capable these apps are!

I'm wondering for anyone that has experience with an Elektron Digitakt (a device that definitely seems to get a lot of love), is there anything that the Digitakt can do that an app like Drambo can't?

Second question: My favorite aspect of the Maschine MK3 was that it felt very fluid to get improv jams up and running, so I'd love to get to that point with the iPad. Is Drambo my best tool to learn deeply to accomplish that?

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

Borderlands or Soundscaper to make twisted, noisy remixes

Sorry, newbie here. I have a an indie band (think PJ Harvey meets QOTSA) and would like to do some weird, twisted, deconstructed, and noisy remixes, with just 5 to10 second samples from different parts of the songs. What is an easy way to do this? I was thinking of the Borderlands or Soundscraper app. What do you think?

iPad piano with low latency when running in background?

I’ve been experimenting with using iPad piano apps because I already use my iPad Pro (with an M1 chip) to display sheet music, and I absolutely love it. I thought it would be convenient to have my piano on the iPad as well, so I wouldn’t need a laptop to provide virtual piano sounds.

The first app I tried was Logic Pro, using its built-in pianos. It works great, and when I switch over to my sheet music app, it continues to run nicely in the background. However, after 10 to 30 minutes, I start to experience audio crackling and distortion. It seems like there might be a memory leak because nothing else changes, and the patch is really simple—just a piano and some reverb. Everything is fine until the problem starts. Once it does, the only fix is to quit and reopen Logic Pro, which is obviously not ideal, especially if it happens mid-performance.

The second app I tried was Pianoteq (which I LOVE that it lets you try it for free, unlike the other apps). The problem with Pianoteq is that when I switch to another app (like my sheet music app), it introduces noticeable latency. This happens regardless of the buffer size settings in Pianoteq. It’s fine while I’m actively using the app, but as soon as I switch out, the latency becomes apparent.

So, I’m looking for a piano app that doesn’t have either of these problems. I’m happy to spend money on a quality app, but I don’t want to gamble on something that might not work for me.

Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences with other piano apps that could help? I’d really appreciate any advice. Thank you!
