When Im writing stuff I get deep in a track and at a point it seems to gel - I can see the arrangement and know what needs to happen to finish the track. I'm genrsally really pleased with what I've done so far... however rather than push on and finish usually t.b.h. I have a little dance, daydream a bit about smashing some festivals next summer, probably smoke something etcetc ... AND THEN something will happen, like a glitch or something, or Ill fuck up some routing and all of a sudden the melancholy pounding slice of gold I've spent a good few hours on tweaking sounds like fucking shit and I can't even hear what I was JUST dancing to. It's pretty funny - does this happen to anyone else? I know its really just ear fatigue but it happens ALL the time...
Yo wasup redditfam. I’m Searching Bassline samples for hardtekk/hardtechno. No kicks only the bass . Or maybe a tutorial for Ableton/Korg ES2 to make them ?
Not by any means perfect or even impressive, but for only having been producing for a year and learning everything myself I feel like I'm making progress. It makes me feel proud a bit, hopefully I can keep improving and learning more for years to come. https://soundcloud.com/blvckglvss/insanity Not a feedback request. Just want to share my thoughts a bit. Remove if not allowed:) Have a good day everyone!
Seriously, I cannot get enough of this guy. From his tutorials on YT and his new EP Liminal Space. I tend to look at him and Sandwell District - Feed Forward as my inspiration for writing stuff. Even if my stuff sucks, I still aspire to be on this level. Anyone else?
Hey guys,
I was super interested in this video of Blawan testing out an Arturia Matrixbrute. He created a lot of glitchy FM waveshaping sounds that are signature to his style which I’d be super eager to emulate in ableton using some stock modulations / effects. Does anyone have any tips on other videos which go through how to use such stock items from ableton?
This sound is super interesting and has a lot of potential so I’m hoping someone can help!
Thank you!!
Looking for EPs or tracks (especially by artists who do Techno usually) where the kick isn’t a straight 4 equally spaced kick, but is syncopated in some way, but the time of the music is still 4/4, not 6/8 or smth else - Autechre for example have many works like this i think. diff time is cool too, but looking for 4/4 music mostly
Did you / do you find that your arrangement tends to be setup for mixing?
Would you avoid intros without a beat or create a different mix more suitable for mixing?
I’m not asking if you do it or did it purposefully but maybe just because of the fact that you know you’ll want to mix it yourself and instinctively it just happens?
Hi everyone, a lot of the live techno pages I’ve found on Reddit are just full of DJ videos, I’ve made this community page for people who would like to talk about live techno performance
Hey Reddit. I'm looking to get some decent studio monitors (for making techno) and am interested in hearing what you people use or possible recommendations. Building a small home studio. Cheers, xx
How does one sample from a song? I’m using FL Studio (I know ablation is better for electronic music but I’m working with what I have for now lol). What format is best used to sample the song from? E.i mp3, wav. What plugin should I use to sample? What am I looking for in the sample? For example, could any part of the song I’m sampling from be used or will there be some parts that won’t sound as good? I’m new to producing so any tips is welcomed! If it helps, I’m trying to make a hard groove sound.
Looking for label recommendations that focus mostly on medium tempo (130-135 range), with a deeper hypnotic sound more slower deeper groove, while still remain driving. Would appreciate some recommendations. I imagine something like these example tracks and EPs:
Fixon - Star Signs
Linear Phase - Uncertain Frequency EP
PTTRN - Change 3
Rrose - Hymn To Moisture EP
PS: bonus points if you know some that are accepting demos
Hey guys, so I moved into a new place and my current setup (monitors and acoustic treatment) are out of reach atm.
I'm producing with my HD25 headphones which is pretty good, but it seems like I cant get the low end right, I make Melodic Techno and I know the kind of kicks that I like, however with my headphones only its really hard for me to get it right.
I'm sure it wont be perfect and it's always better to have the treatment and the monitors, but what can I do for now ?
Talking mainly about the kicks, the bass are pretty much okay for now.
Especially when I'm listening the track outside of Ableton, like car speakers, it sounds really rough and subby even though I'm aiming for these short, punchy and deep kind of kicks as you can hear in the genre.
Would love to talk with someone and I can also send some tracks for feedbacking the kicks, which is the area that I want to improve the most.
Any help would be appreciated.
Other than recording vocals themselves where do producers get cool and unique vocals. Like just simple one shots and short vocal loops

Hi,
for those of you who use Session View to create/sketch their ideas as loops and then finish their tracks in Arrangement View:
What is your preferred workflow?
Do you record in the arrangement from Session View? Or do you drag and drop individual clips?
Do you record some stuff straight to audio or are you working purely with Midi?
I'm still learning how Session View and Arrangement View work together because I'd like to work on both simultaneously - meaning switching back and forth between Session and Arrangement View during the production process. Example of the process (Techno):
I create a 16 bar loop with a Kickdrum, a sub bass (<80Hz) & a low bass groove (80-200hz), a simple chord progression played by a synth "piano", a call and response mid bass (>300Hz), a texture pad, a drum rack with some Hats and Cymbals anda drum rack with some Percs. All of that as clips in Session View. I play around, create some variations, mix them and come up with maybe 3-4 scenes. From that point forward, I want to use Session View and Arrangement View - as soon as I got the fundamental loop, I want to start arranging as soon as possible because arranging/ composing is the same for me.
I don't like using only scenes in Session View to create a whole arrangement, I need a timeline with the ability to quickly drop audio samples and edit them, etc. I'm simply used to this. I need bot views at the same time working together flawlessly.
So what I want is:
Prior to using Ableton only, I had basically this workflow with Maschine as my groove box to sketch loop ideas, record (or drag n drop) them into Abletons arrangement view as audio files and start building. For example: When I got my Intro down, I went back to Maschine and played a looped intro segment in Ableton and started to add new ideas on top. When I found something, I recorded it into Ableton and started arranging. This workflow was limiting in one simple regard - I had to use mainly audio files, so after printing I couldn't tweak synth sounds anymore.
Now I want to do basically the exact same workflow, except sketching in Session View and using the Midi Clips instead of printed audio, so I can play around with different automations, tweak parameters while listening to the arrangement, etc. Basically getting rid of the limitations from Maschine. I hope this is possible like that. I got two monitors, I want to have Session View open on the left and the Arrangement View on the right and then work like that...
So - how would you do it and/ or how are you doing it? What is your workflow in that regard?
Do you have a hybrid workflow like the one I want to develop? Or do you create your scenes prior and then record into arrangement view and work from there?
I want to do it like that because I often created scenes in Maschine as a pre-arrangement but when I really started working in the timeline, I always ended up changing the arrangement completely. Working with a timeline let's me create tracks which don't just sound like one loop after the other but real music. Especially when working printed audio loops like hats or whatever, I often use FX, resample, etc. I need a sketchpad for loops and a sketchpad for a whole track at the same time to compose tracks.
Thanks in advance, I appreciate every input.
Since I'm new to Ableton - if what I want to do is easily possible and learnable from manuals, tutorials whatever, then I would greatly appreciate any comment who simply says "You have to read "here"(link)" or anything.
Cheers
Quickly making new tracks for a set, that won't be mastered so I just looking for a relatively fast bandaid solution for a set.
Recently noticed that my tracks show a thinner waveform in Rekordbox and sound quieter compared to other tracks at the same level. Even after using a limiter to push and level out peaks.
I’ve tried chaining saturation, light multiband compression and hard limiting (ozone maximizer) but even pushing everything to the ceiling doesn’t make my tracks look/sound comparable in rekordbox (still quiter and less full).
I’m not trying to create a total "sausage" but I just don't get what’s happening when I load an unmastered track into Rekordbox. Any insights?
What percentage of the time are you layering, instead of picking the perfect sample or sculpting the perfect one with kick generators
If it’s more than half the time, I am interested in learning how you go about it and why you take the time to do it
Does anybody know how to make drums like I’m hearing on most records coming out on innervisions.
How do you make the drums especially the hi- hats all seem like they’re played live. I I know maybe one or two artists that actually play their hi-hats live like Dennis Horvat but outside of that I’m thinking it’s either loops loops or or they are really good at programming one-shots . I feel like there is a trick to this and wondering if anyone has any experience making these that can point me in the right direction to make these or sample packs where I can get these type?
Here are some examples:

Thank you
Bringing you some Ben Klock if you can help with the synth lead that that fades in at 4:00
Bonus is the second synth that to me sounds like strings. It appears at 5:42
Anything is appreciated
I have the Trinity Elektron boxes. DT, ST, DN. I’ve watched numerous dub techno jams with these boxes. I just completely suck at using them. Feel like I get “better” results using Ableton. Do I HAVE to use them? No. But I spent money on these dumb boxes and I’m growing more frustrated with each new attempt. Anyone else feel this way???
Edit: Thank you all for the responses, I figured I would add an audio clip so you all can get an idea of where I'm at and how much help I need lol. Its not mixed, and I have a hard time really dialing in EQ on certain sounds. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Any big surprises? Basically Im wondering if I should implement a sub in my studio, or I can go without one
Hey guys, just wondering if there’s anything else like splice bridge?
Hi friends, I know this is a matter of taste and preference, but I still have a question to ask if you could help me or give me some ideas.
When you listen to classic house and techno tracks (more house) they usually use claps that are very funky and have a very natural sound, almost emulating organic claps (maybe some of them are) so I have a question, do these claps not come from any of the classic drum machines like the 909 and 808 or do they? Or is there some other specific machine that makes those beautiful claps?👏🏻
Here are some examples of the claps I'm looking for
I started producing december last year. I think im doing a good job so far. I use ableton and basically only the stock things, no plugins. The plugins i do use are: 185 sequencer from max, and youlean. I love the hypnotic but super groovy stuff like :
-Manic Room by Bailey Ibbs -Overdrive is the Joker by Bondarük and SMT -Interchill by Toobris
How would you guys remake the lower end of any of these songs? The rumble, kick The mid range? The percs? High end?
I still struggle a bit in the low end mainly. I tend to either overdo it a bit or feel like the track lacks energy but I would really appreciate some tips to get better at getting it in the right spot. One thing I started really improving on is the volume of things (mixing) I think that by controlling the volume faders of each element of the low end you can get really nice results. But I need more tips :) (And obviously more time, I know that I need to be patient and understand that a lot of things come with time experience)
Hi folks, I'm looking for samples of modern synths mainly: Dreadbox nymphes, Erebus, Typhoon. Arturia microbrute. korg minilogue.Pwm mantis. Elektron analog keys.
I have uvi synth anthology but it only has a few sounds of the minilogue and erebus only. Anybody know where i can find them ?
Please use this thread to ask about a specific sound you are trying to create.

Hi,
I got a simple question to all the Ableton and Push user's here (excluding our hardware comrades, sry) - do you utilize drum racks?
I'm currently in the process of learning "Ableton only". The last years I've used Maschine with Ableton - I made the initial sketch (16-32 bar loop) in Maschine and then started to arrange in Ableton by recording everything as audio files. Since the limitations regarding modulation and automation (and other factors) became a regular problem, I decided to go full Ableton. Well, I can work in arrangement view but sketching in session view is new to me.
My old workflow always had a group of sounds (like groups of tracks in ableton) specific for Kick and Sub (some kind of <80hz groove) as well as for all the drums, percs and melodic elements (depending on what was used). The great thing about Maschine was that I could create drum pattern extremely fast - group A (Kick & Sub), create 16 bar pattern, load kick & sub in sound 1&2, activate step sequencer, create kick pattern, change sounds, create sub (e.g. LP tom) pattern, done. Click on group B, load a hihat, create the pattern in the step sequencer, immediately load the next sound like a clap and continue.
Each sound is part of the group but each sound is independent - this seems to be the crucial problem when compared drum racks. Meaning: I can apply swing and adjust it for each sound, for the whole group or the master. When using a drum rack in Ableton, it creates a clip and I can only apply a groove to every sample. Sometimes I want different swing parameters, sometimes not. I also miss quick "humanization" features like a randomization function for velocity and grid offset with adjustable range for each. Is there a way to do this inside of a drum rack?
Anyway, I always grouped kick and sub and then the other drums separately in another group for processing them together. When bouncing the audio to Ableton, I then grouped the best groups together to glue them together with slight compression.
So far I'm kind of disappointed how hard it is to "humanize" a Midi Clip. For some genres or subtypes of Techno, this complete quantization may be perfect, but I always created music which has aspects of Techno, House and Trance (122-126bpm). Like using hypnotic polymeter, using a lot of LFO controlled modulation, using industrial sounds and noises, a clear focus on the 4/4 pulse with a heavy kick, while having "rusty and technoid" jacking "house" drums and an old-school synth arp who sounds like blade runner (generally I use a lot of analog synth emulations). It doesn't sound like modern festival Techno (not melodic nor hard, fast acid), like Drumcode or Ostgut Techno, not like Ibiza Tech House or like Trance. Someone described my tracks to me as "Dark Electro Wave Techno with identity problems" lol.
Anyway got carried away, back to the groups/ drum racks - how do you guys do it? Do you create a "Bass" group for kick, sub and maybe a low baseline with each sample on an individual midi track?
Or do you use a Drumrack which includes your Kickdrum as well as your other drums and keep the sub & low bass separate? If so, how do you process them (kick & sub) together then?
My idea would be to use two drum racks. One for the kick and the sub (whatever it may be, usually I create a <80hz groove from the kick or something completely random) and then one for the rest of the drums. Maybe one more for percs. My reasoning behind this is that I love using the step sequencer and that's only possible with drum racks afaik. I'd then apply the same groove to both clips in both racks, so the swing is not all over the place, and also use the same processing I used for the Kick/Sub rack (Distortion, Drum Bus, Glue Compessor) to the other drum rack, so the timber change because of the FX is the same. Then I could group them and put a final slight bus compression on it to glue the everything completely together (besides send FX like reverb and delay).
So far my pros for drum racks:
Cons:
And if you're not using drum racks but use a Push 2, how do you exactly use it for drums? Or in general?
I know that the Push isn't made for arrangement view, so I want to learn how to sketch in session view like I could in Maschine (at least similarly fast and easy) but I'm unsure what the best workflow is. In YT tutorials I often see folks putting samples straight into the timeline to create a groove. That's the last thing I wanna do. I want to create 16-32 bar loops using Pushs step sequencer for drums and my synth emulations with my Arturia Keyboard/controller, create different scenes, build a fundamental arrangement in session view by having the scenes I want, recording into the timeline and then work on transitions, fine-tuning of the arrangement, automations (which I can hopefully use while having active clip modulation), etc.
So - how do you handle drums, drum processing, kick and sub processing, etc?
I appreciate every input! Sorry for the long post and thank you!
