What does "NPD" mean?
New Pedal Day
What's in the Altoids tins?
They're used to store all kind of stuff like guitar picks, spare batteries, and slides.
What order should I put my pedals in? There is no right or wrong way! Whatever sounds best is the right order for you so experiment! If you must know what the conventional order is, check it out here.
What are the best pedals?
"Best" is subjective, however, we vote on our favorites in each category every year. Check it out!
How do I power all of my pedals?
See our very own page on power supplies in the wiki! and/or watch this video about everything pedal power related.
Why all the JHS hate?

If, like me, you once in a while get tired of reconfiguring your board to swap pedals in and out, and have an extra amp laying around not getting much use, I highly recommend picking up a used M13 Stompbox modeler and building a little 'fun rig'. It is old tech, but the quality of the effects are really impressive, considering you can pick one up for $200-300 in like new condition. Line 6 gets a lot of heat, but they also have come up with some really great ideas. You can 4-cable it if you want, it allows total control of your signal chain, it can store a whole bunch of 'scenes' and is dead-stupid easy to use. No menus really, each stomp position remembers the last setting dialed in and can be used as individual stomps or saved scenes that can be recalled with a tap. Built in tap tempo which also can control any parameter of any effect as well as two expression pedal ins that can control any parameter. Really great, portable little tool. Oh yeah, also has a decent looper bult in.
Hello guys, I need some suggestions. I am thinking of making my first pedal setup. I want to build a pedal setup for doing experimental music, noise just fool around with sound. what should I get? I was looking into the valeton gp 200 but i really think I want a analog setup or a hybrid setup. can you guys help me with pedals i should look first.
In here, or otherwise.. A friend mentiones Steve Morse, but from a quick googling i see he uses 3, havent explored in detail, though.. Something kike this could work i think very beautifuly
I wanted to get the Epstein pedal from acorn but people here sort of reminded me that it might just be a bit more edgy than funny, which I kinda get after thinking about it a bit.
Anything similar that would be genuinely useful in a rig (not like a miku stomp or something) that’s still funny in terms of motif?
For reference I play (or hope to play) more punk/metal stuff (haven’t fully picked between the two yet or even if I’ll go way different and play indie rock)
I am building an almost 100% analogue ampless rig because I really like the direct feel of an analogue signal chain. The only digital effect in the chain is a Strymon El Capistan.
Would I ruin that direct analogue feel by incorporating a TC Electronic Plethora X3 or X5? How is the latency with these units?
This looper got so much going for it:
2 channels, each can do extended loops over the initial loop. Serial mode, for 2 part songs. 24bit so any amount of overdubs won't get muddy. Stereo in/out with one switchable mic input, and mono out possibility. Midi in/out for clock sync. Footswitch port for more control options. Headphone out for night jams. Plenty of storage, and USB port for transferring loops. Drum machine, with a bit rugged sound, but hey it's there. Simple and intuitive controls. Small form factor, lightweight and well built. Very cheap...
It's like the perfect looper, except...
The two channels don't sync with each other...
Most important aspect in a dual channel looper is missing. I don't get it. I really hope Valeton will address this, and it would be an instant buy for me...
Hey!
Im looking for some examples of peoples fly rigs for bassists. Where you guys are running the patch switching from a laptop.
I'm a guitarist so for me I'm runnin a QCortex but thats massive overkill spend for our bassist.
Its likely he needs something Like Tuner -> digiDrop > Compressor -> 3 channels various distortion levels - > occational fx
The main focus is getting a good frequency split distortion as we play between drop F# and drop A on a dingwall. I've been looking at Darkglass Adams and MicroInfinity and then running a HX One for the rare occasion we use fx as a suggestion. Midi would come from ableton.
Also considering a HXstomp but concerned they are already 6/7 years old software wise.
I hoped the Nano would be useful but its really lacking in options bass wise so thats a dud.
If we can fit it in a 17 inch rack draw or put on the floor depending on the venue.
Anyways I realise I'm coming at this from a guitarist knowledge "base" so I have no clue what options are out there for bass.
Thanks guys!
I have a fender rumble 500. So I have my sansamp on my pedslboard and just a little question to find the best settings. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The only question I have left is... 1.How do you adjust the gain and the eq on the rumble 500 or does this have no influence when you go to the PA.
Thx a lot
I bought an MG300 recently and I'm loving it. I usually play lead guitar in a classic rock / blues cover band at restaurants, bars, and private events, so I just wanted to see if someone around here have used the MG300 live and have found some nice tones.
And when I talk about classic rock I'm talking about Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Zeppelin, and you get the idea.
By the way I got a Humbucker to Single switch as well, if you think that's important. Thanks so much!
The transmitter from my GLD16+ has randomly stopped charging. The unit still works (is down to two LEDs of charge). No red light, no charge going in. Here's what I've tried:
- Multiple chargers
- Tried leaving it on a charger for an hour despite the red light not coming on, to see if it was charging but the red light was just not working
- Resetting the pack
- I plugged it in to charge while using the unit, and it kept working (it should cut out while on charge).
It appears to me that the charge port has failed somehow, but if anyone's encountered anything similar and found a fix please let me know.
Anyone have experience with the Jefferey Epstein Pedal from Acorn on bass?
This goes for other fuzz pedals too but more specifically the Epstein one, how is fuzz on bass?
I personally don’t care too much for the blend knob on my orange crush bass 50 amp, if I don’t like that will I not like fuzz?
Also how does it differ from distortion & overdrive and what are its uses for a metal/punk bassist?
Started with it two days ago, for just IRs for my Tone King and other amps. Tonight tried it with some misfit utility like pedals, not on my live board currently. Running it through my Great River trying the on board first.
So far the only board is close enough to a pedal platform. It’s great to isolate pedals to stack and get a feel at home. I rent a live room so that has the final say so. But this helps me dial in at home, make demos, have a travel rig and adds 4x12 with my mic Sky King live.
So many possibilities, and so far I’d say it’s fine if you have an amp or pedalboard. Def not better or worse than Neural DSP VST plugins. I mainly bought this for minimal latency IRs for silent amp recording. But so far seeing so many more uses, especially with just song writing.
I wish this was around when I was 15 and also in college at 25, when I couldn’t blast the roof off at 1am. Owning a Captor already, boats $200 less than a Captor X.
Plus have the benefits of using things separately, with the Opus on a Fender or Marshall in between overdrive and effects. Also can record a dry signal, or double your the live path….best $215 spend on a pedal in sometime! W
I am just getting into pedals and want a similar sound. I play a tele if that helps
I have a pedal (Fuchs Royal Plush compressor) that I forgot I put a battery in and the battery exploded, the pedal still powers up and the signal is fine when the pedal is not active but as soon as I activate the pedal the signal gets cut off. My question is, is this something that may be fixed for less than the price of a replacement pedal ($140) or might it be better/easier to just get a replacement?
I did a search in the sub about battery issues and found so many varying issues that starting a new post seemed reasonable enough
I think the plan would be to get/make a pedalboard and insert that into the foam rather than using the case and foam as the board itself. The case would be merely so it could be closed and moved with little effort, as well as to give plenty of space for expansion/spacing pedals.
At a little over 4 feet wide, however, I’m worried it may be too big. They also make a version that’s designed for camera equipment, drones, etc, but that’s only 18x13”, which may be too small.
I need an amp that i can use the metal zone as a pre amp with it. What amps should I look at?
Hi all, another one of these, sorry.... Looking for suggestions to try out if anyone has any ideas.
I have an analogman DS1 that has bitten the dust and I am looking to replace it with something else.
I play mostly into the drive channel of a JCM800 or a Blu1 (that can actuallybe setup to sound pretty similar). I was using the DS-1 with the drive on low-ish straight into the amp for heavier tones or a sd-1 to wet the signal a bit when I don't need it as heavy.
Have tried a tumnus and wasn't completely sold, also a MXR super badass that I really didn't like (was too noisy and lost tone).
I am looking to buy a new processor and now I am confused with these two. I was using Zoom g1xfour, but it got damaged. I just wanted know which one of them sounds better and whether paying extra cash for mg400 really worth it or not
I'm trying to get a board together that'll fit in this case, but need a little more room. Power supply will be in a foam layer beneath these and doesn't need to be taken into consideration. What would you go with?
My band and I are planning to record our album next year, but we need a eq. Thoughts on behringer eq?
I have SFT. I want crumbling med gain with ample low end. Do I need the 5f6? What is difference? Not finding great vids for this. Thanks!
I have more or less narrow down to two pedalboard. Basically, i do not want to use Velcro.
Wondering which one would be better, given I am going to put about 4-5 pedals
Other than Pegboard or Wallgrid (or even Ikea Shoerack), please do not recommend Velcro of Dual Locks.
I want a Fender-esque amp/amp modeler on my board. So far I’m looking at the Quilter Superblock US, or the UAD Woodrow. Any recommendations?
This isn’t powering my jhs packrat to turn on any answers?
