If you're posting plans for a first rack for critique/suggestions, consider starting small! It is recommended not to exceed 7U, 168hp (Dimensions of a Popular Intellijel Case), since your needs will likely change as you start using your modular and learning more about what can be done.

Not affiliated, and they didn’t ask me to post this. I’m just sharing it as I found good deals.
Both Bastl and Magerit have great direct-to-consumer sales right now on their websites.
Hey can anyone who has purchased one confirm whether or not it can accurately display incoming tempo from its sync in? You know, beat counting!
I'm trying to use one as a drum brain using clock it receives from elsewhere, but getting a bpm readout is pretty important to me.
Thanks for reading! :)
I’m looking to get my first analog drum synth. I’m a bit overwhelmed with the search so far. I absolutely love the sounds of the Analog Rytm but it’s just more capability than I need right now (and more than I’m ready to spend just now).
I love the classic sounds of the 808 and 909. I tend towards a lot of polyrhythms and layering of percussion with heavy kicks and counter rhythms and syncopation from hats and synthetic hand percussion sounds. I also enjoy creating movement in my drums with some light melodic structures. Something focused on creating in that direction with a reasonable ability to also emulate more subdued natural drums sounds would be ideal. I’m not really looking for much distortion or filth in my drum sounds (if it’s there, that’s okay, but not seeking it out).
Live performance isn’t my priority here, but I work best on gear that allows me to tweak and manipulate parameters on a stream of sounds until it sounds right.
Any tips on what I should look at in the sub $750 price range? Also, sub $1000? Features I should consider that are commonly overlooked or common purchasing errors? Thanks in advance.
Hi! Can anyone tell me if there's something like a sampler for Eurorack but for MIDI? Essentially, you load a MIDI file, slice it up, and switch between the slices using CV. For example, the Disting mk4 has MIDI playback, but without much control.
Shakmat HiPass (queue Johnny Cash's version of Hurt). Red stripe goes on the top, not the bottom, hence the smell we all dread. Thankfully not a terribly expensive module, but anything left to do with it? Not gotten into DIY, so know nothing about module repair. I'm considering hanging it on a chain around my neck every time I swap modules to remind myself what not to do.
Hi, as the title states, been enjoying my Ikarie and Vult Freak a lot. I really like timbral design with my filters, been looking at the Morpheus but seems to have a lot of mixed opinions. It’s ok if they are pretty modulation hungry, would love to hear more opinions on what might be a good candidate!
Hello modular reddit community!
I am reaching out to get some help with my modular system. At the moment it can create some cool leads and fat bass sounds, and with clouds I can experiment with some granular synthesis. Here’s what modules I currently have:
I want to make generative stuff, arps, explore more out of what I can do, have some modules that play well with what I got. And whatever makes the most sense I guess.
My problem with what I have now is that I use windows and using the ES8 introduces some latency, and my Apollo x16 does not have ADAT :/
If you had my modules, what would the next step be?
Thank you <3

Recently purchased the Desmodus Versio plugin from Noise Engineering for use in Ableton, and I was wondering what other modular companies have plugin versions of their modules, outside of the VCV Rack format? I know VCV Rack can be a plugin, but curious about other stand alone plugins.
Is the Mutable Instruments Braids still worth it?
Or are there any other „better“ options in this price range?
The Zularic Reptitor is used to change up the rhythm of the 4 percussion voices as well as the XClock on the René. The YClock on René is a steady pulse from the RCD
It's Friday! What are you and your modulars up to?

I am struggling to get anything decent out of HMM. I am patching every out like crazy - got a snare and hi hats going. Almost got to a half decent kick but all sounds a bit half baked. What am I doing wrong? Am sure it’s me doing something wrong - this is a monster of a module size and looks wise. All the sweet spots I can find are on de-tune, snare level etc - but not patcahble? Not great. I wish I could love…
I've had a Beatstep Pro, Ketstep Pro, and currently run an SQ-64. The Keystep Pro was a great sequencer, but it was too one-track minded for me. The SQ 64 has been fun because of how all 4 tracks can be managed quickly, and the sequencer is surprisingly deep, but the workflow definitely feels clunky at times because of how it seperates gate/velocity/mod.
So I'm wondering what internet strangers think is the best standalone sequencer, and what are the pros and cons?
I'm heading out of the country for a few weeks & am considering bringing a small skiff to fiddle with while i'm gone. I'll be going through India and then Thailand - while in Thailand i'll be on a small motorcycle through the jungle for about a week. anyone have any advice on how to travel/power abroad? will also accept "leave it at home" responses for consideration!
Can you have multiple audio inputs from your DAW feeding it? Can you send CV from Ableton CV devices to Softube Modular?
Hey Community,
I've been noodling for a few years now. I have been thinking about my ideal end goal for my modular synth practice. In my perfect word, I would be able to set up my synth at a hip coffee shop or a diy art show, and just noodle away making gross noise and and talking about the process with anyone who wants to come by and interact with it. My day job is teaching science at a University, so I'm very interested and comfortable interacting with people with patience and from a teaching perspective whether signal processing or just what does this knob do?
Have any of you had success doing this, or something similar? Have any of you tried and learned that it doesn't work? Any advice for how to approach a venue? "Can I sit in the corner and make sounds that annoy your customers." Doesn't seem like a great sales pitch...
Interested to hear what you all have to say. Cheers.
Hey guys. I have this PP not working. Its not "felling" my fingers on the pannel. Could you help me out a little. i'm into diy and can solder and desolder and can read a schematic. I'm blaming the LM3900 and i can change it but would want to be sure before ordering..because i can only order from mouser and i dont want to lose all that money on shipping. So can you help me a little to wrap my head arround how lm3900 and 40106 work toghether. The 358 i think i understand...as that part i think it works, because when i touch the pcb where each channel is located it reacts. Here i attached a video so its more clear.
'm not sure if this is achievable, but here's what I'd like to do: I have a Nord Lead A1, and I want to use something like the Befaco MIDIthing in VCV Rack to convert MIDI to CV. From there, I’d like to route that signal back to hardware, using it with a hardware sequencer. I also have an Expert Sleepers ES-8 audio interface. How can this setup be implemented?
I’m thinking about buying both Bloom and Gamut Repetitor, but I like to use the Phrygian mode. neither module supports that directly, but both can do some version(s) of the major scale, and you can get to Phrygian through that. for example E Phrygian has the same notes as C Major, you just start that series of notes at E rather than C. so I believe I could get what I’m looking for in either case by using a major scale.
the thing is, if I were building a sequencer with randomness, I’d weight the randomization to favor the root note a little. it’s crucial in a bassline, and worthwhile in anything melodic. but if you’re using a major scale only because it overlaps the Phrygian mode, a melody algorithm which gravitates to the root will really be gravitating to the sixth. idk if either module does that kind of gentle probability skewing, though, so maybe this is a nonissue.
can you use these modules to do various nonstandard modes, or do I need something like a Five12 Vector Sequencer for that?
Been wanting to get into eurorack for a while with my DIY electronics hobby (been mostly pedals so far); should I build my own case/power supply or just go for the tiptop mantis to start? I can do woodworking, and have the tools, so that's not a problem.
