Rather than seeking full independence from the U.S., what do all think the prospects are for declaring more limited independence from certain US regulatory bodies, such as the FDA? Similar to the way a number of states decriminalized cannabis at the state level, despite it remaining criminal at the Federal level.
"Dozens of entrepreneurs, made newly wealthy by blockchain and cryptocurrencies, are heading en masse to Puerto Rico this winter. They are selling their homes and cars in California and establishing residency on the Caribbean island in hopes of avoiding what they see as onerous state and federal taxes on their growing fortunes, some of which now reach into the billions of dollars."
Hi, my team and I just landed in San Juan. We are pretty sure we’re going to relocate our business to PR. Anyone know any of the wave of crypto folks who made that decision and are now here? Would love to meet up/ chat!
Please post about your experience below.
EDIT: I myself couldn't go, had to do things sadly, but hopefully others went.
I don't know much detail regarding your upcoming referendum other than the three choices that are on your ballot:
I guess regardless of what happens, should you still decide to organize the Libertarian Party of Puerto Rico further, I've been notified by members of the Libertarian National Committee (Daniel Hayes and Sam Goldstein, in particular), that while statehood would be nice, you're still welcome to organize and become affiliated with the national party.
They're discussing possible locations for the national convention in 2020 (with 2018 being in New Orleans, Louisiana) and it seems some of the members of the Convention Committee would seriously consider Puerto Rico if an effort was possibly made.
Just a suggestion from an outsider.
I know with the Democrat and Republican parties even if territories can't vote in the general election they still hold primary elections and send delegates to the National Convention does the Puerto Rico LP get to send delegates also is the libertarian party trying to expand another territories like Guam the Northern Mariana Islands American Samoa or the Virgin Islands
Just checking in. Libertarian State Senator from Nebraska.
