Roe v Wade response from James'Rus" Russell Gubernatorial candidate

RE: SCOTUS letter & Roe v Wade...

This is why I support women's autonomy.

Self-determinacy is a key facet of freedom and repealing this decision would remove a key component of protecting that freedom. Kicking it back to a State's Rights issue fundamentally removes the protection that was put in place specifically to rectify and prevent infringement on that freedom (as we have ample evidence from history of federal laws being necessitated in order to create/maintain the union upon which our country relies).

I've heard the women who testify that an abortion damaged them in various ways. In each case, I've heard a failing of our system in various ways. By medical professionals not listening to or respecting women reporting additional medical concerns following the procedure. By law enforcement and legislators not taking sexual assault and rape reports seriously. By society as a whole attempting to shame a woman for being sexually active in any way to the point that they internalize the notion that any pain they feel as a result of the procedure is somehow deserved. I've heard TONS of ways in which those women were failed by society. What I've not heard, in any case, is a reason to remove rights from anyone else.

I find it particularly damning that in states like Arkansas, the age of consent is 16, yet the age at which we allow a woman to take independent proactive measures to consent in a responsible manner has yet to be determined (since we still have people who feel that access to safe birth control for women is a contentious issue).

As with so many issues we've faced, this is not an easy topic to tackle. However, there IS a clear answer. Respect women and their right to have control of their own bodies. Respect them enough to know that the decision on whether or not to terminate a pregnancy is not an easy matter nor one entered into lightly without an understanding of the magnitude of that decision. Respect the fact that simply because you may feel a certain way about something, that doesn't give you the right to infringe upon the rights of someone else when their decisions do not impact you.

The same people seeking to deny women these rights and protections certainly seem capable of following this logic when it pertains to guns, masks, vaccines, taxes, and a litany of other topics. Maybe it's time that we, as a whole, recognize that the arguments seeking to restrict women's autonomy are being made not in the interest of protecting anyone other than those in power who seek to maintain that power by any means necessary.

I really like this guy's video on how we as libertarians should better apply our principles of personal responsibility. If we within our communities can do what's right ahead of time the government can't come in and impose rules on us.

About this sub

I created this after I got banned from r/Arkansas because I am against mask mandates. I got tired of how liberal they are at r/Arkansas so I created a sub for the libertarians of Arkansas. I won’t ban anyone without notice and even then I will rarely ever ban anyone.
