Thought I'd share a few Pittsburgh-related documentaries (free to watch) from the last few years. You might have seen two of these (in some form) on WQED.

Hey Pittsburghers! I’m new to the area as I came here for school and I’m looking for an affirming/progressive church. I’m based downtown so preferably somewhere around there but distance is not really an issue so I will take all recommendations. I have been to a couple services but they have been stand-up sit down sing a hymn stand up again when im looking for something a little bit more of a worship and sermon structure. I grew up orthodox and would now consider myself non-denominational. Thank you!
Could someone please explain the recent union contract…is this effective immediately all new hired BSN nurses at AHN make $40/hr? I’m so confused how unions work😭 (coming from UPMC)
After... the events of last week, I've decided that I'd like to find a new church community. I moved here recently for school, so I'm not very familiar with what my options are, and I just joined one of the first churches I saw advertised. I am not super familiar with any denominations. My family went to a Baptist church weekly growing up, but I'm okay with others. My only hope is to find a community where I would feel welcome as a black woman. Thanks for any leads you can provide, I've really enjoyed living here so far.
best soft pretzel + honey mustard in the city?
I went to Walmart today and already encountered a bit of unanticipated verbal racism. Somehow I got pulled into conversation with one of the people hawking products in an aisle set up (not a Walmart employee - I can’t even recall the product).
I don’t mind having a few minutes of conversation to distract me since I really hate shopping.
I can’t recall the context of the conversation but at one point she was describing one of the Walmart employees as, “the guy with no teeth who looked like he came over the border”.
I was so stunned and my mind was trying to come up with some way to counter her statement such as “What border?” but she was already on another subject. She was talking a mile a minute and it was actually difficult to disengage. I had seen this young man in the aisles stocking and said something innocuous to him in passing about how crowded the store seemed.
I was finally able to break free but had enough shopping for the day and went home in disgust.
I live in a rural Western PA area with very little diversity.
My heart aches for what this young man might be experiencing.
And if she felt emboldened enough to talk like this to a stranger I can’t even begin to imagine their conversations at home.
I am going to have to beef up my gentle confrontational skills and/or resort to shopping elsewhere or online.
Hi. Does anyone know how I can reach a person at the Amtrak station in downtown Pittsburgh. I left a bag on the train that I'd like to pick up tomorrow. I filed a report on line but would like to connect with a person. Thanks.
Has anyone been in the last few days, I know they are preparing for the holiday show, and I'm wondering if it'd worth going right now, or if most rooms are being worked on?
Just bought a house in city limits. Penn american is my water provider, but I believe PGHh2o/PWSA is sewage. When I try to call and start service for sewage they say the old owner has not payed their last bill and can't put service in my name. Will anything happen to me (water turned off etc) Thanks for the help
Why is it so hard to find a place that’ll hire under 16 I literally just turned 15 and got my work permit and everything 😭😩
Any recommendations for breathwork classes or similar north of the city?
Did anyone else see the car on Penn Ave in Garfield sitting in the middle of the road upside down? Just curious on how that would even happen where it did.
Looking for am improv group to check out and potentially join, I've seen the steel city improv, but they have no info on their site. Preferably in the east end of the city, but I do have a vehicle so can drive.
Are there any stores that sell goth cloth or alt cloth in general?
I was peacefully scrolling through the top posts of a cooking subreddit and found a post that mentioned a ice cream place in Pittsburgh. Except they spelled it "Pittsburg". And I couldn't unsee it and I couldn't say anything because the post was 3 years old so now I'm here because my complaint will be heard
Does anyone have suggestions on where to donate used baby clothes and items? I do not want to take them to goodwill, would like someone in need to use them for free. Thanks
I have a bunch of books suitable for elementary school age kids. Does anyone know of a place I can donate them other than Goodwill?
