Charges stemming from “a call” from Sheetz security?

Has anyone experienced getting a charge (usually is bogus/ you were already targeted/ cops were biased, or something small was extremely exaggerated) from the Sheetz in Indiana pa? I can add more details amout the 5+ cases I know that were false accusations and the cops/ guard profited from.

2nd year in a row without a Spirit Halloween in Indiana PA

It's really a shame that Spirit Halloween can't use the former Kmart or some other location at the Indiana Mall or in Indiana PA. I do wonder if some leasing deal was acquired for the former Kmart. Rumors in the area say the mall and Rural King came to an agreement but Rural King is waiting for construction prices to come down before beginning work. Guess we will find out as it's kind of odd not to be able to use the same spot they have for years without something else going in there.

Soon to be IUP Grad looking for friends

Hello all, with the unfortunate upcoming of graduation I find myself thinking about who I’ll be able to hangout with once all of my college friends leave Indiana next Saturday/Sunday. I am looking for other people in their 20s that live in Indiana that might want to become friends. Some of my interests are music, fishing/anything outdoors, sports, video games, cooking, and exploring/adventuring. If you think we might click then feel free to shoot me a PM! Thank you!! 😄

Are the Indiana Speaks Up Surveys Making a Positive Difference?

I like the idea that folks are asked for their input regarding needs in the community. Reviewing the comments from the 2022 survey and there's a LOT of thoughtful answers.

What happens after the survey results are tallied? I really want to know whether these survey results factor into the planning and budgeting of services. Or are my efforts an exercise in futility?

Has anyone here worked at Gordon Sinclair?

I used to work at this company back when they were based out of New York. What a fucking nightmare!

Anyone into searching for the paranormal in the area?

Inspired by working in a haunted mental hospital, does anyone enjoy any of the haunts of the area? I'm a skeptic who enjoys delving into the paranormal. Any locations anyone can recommend?

Help an International Student Out

Hello, I'm a fellow Redditor and my Peruvian friend is studying at the university. She needs help with public transit options out of Indiana in the summer. She said there's no bus or shuttle service out after May 1st. I'm out west so I don't know. What do people do to get out of town who don't have a car? She's worried there won't be any Lyft or Uber options either to get out and back. She particularly wants to get to Hershey, PA to see Stevie Nicks.

Anyone try this new laundromat in Indiana?

Saw this on FB yesterday. Anyone try this place or know if it's legit? I'm trying to get a free wash.

Pierogies

Here's one for the foodies of Indiana PA --- does anyone know the best eatery for decent (not frozen) pierogies? Raised my kids (who are now adults) in Texas. They haven't had the good fortune to eat pierogies yet.

Reminiscing about Growing Up in Indiana

My family moved to Indiana when my Dad was hired to teach at IUP - late 60s. Daydream: Waking up one morning to my bedroom light being flicked on and off, "Time for School!" It would be kind'ave like Quantum Leap but I would be myself in 1970.

I imagine myself walking after school down N 5th St towards Downtown. Does anyone remember the candy store on N 5th? Stopping in to buy rock candy and paper candy. The first store on Philly to check out was Uber's Record Store. I was crazy about the Beatles and collected their records. I wasn't crazy about Troutman's but Mom loved shopping there.

I will never forget the time Mom found a skirt with a little rip in it. She actually tried to talk the sales lady in accepting less for the skirt. I was mortified - as an adult, now understand that bargaining is the norm in certain cultures.

I miss checking out the movie posters at the Indiana theater, buying white lipstick at Murphy's, window shopping in Brody's and checking out library books at Indiana Free Library.

Grateful Downtown now has great stores and restaurants. Doesn't stop me from taking a trip down Memory Lane though. Ironically when I graduated from high school, I left town with the intention of never returning, again. Turns out I moved back to care for my elderly folks - I wanted them to be able to live in their home for as long as possible. It was 2008. Both parents passed away and my family home sold since then.

Happy Ending: The owner of my former family home put it on the market last summer. And I now am the very fortunate owner of my family home. My parents bought this home for $17,500 in 1970.

The Grateful Dead nailed it, "What a long, strange trip it's been" - HA! Anyone else want to take us down Memory Lane?

The underbelly of Indiana PA besides the obvious (the police)

Moving back to Indiana PA as an old fart. What is fastest way to get involved with the degenerates of Indiana pa? Except the police, Indiana pa cops are weak sauce.

Indiana PA my hometown. People sobbing over Jimmy Stewart’s statue on the day of his death. Bob’s Pizza. Going “uptown” on half-days. Getting harassed by IUP students. IUP homecoming parade. Christmas parade, Conservative politicians lol. Rich Gallo getting kicked out of the Council. Let’s gooooooo.

I love Indiana pa. The people there weren’t as miserable as yinzers. And I’m coming back as an old fart, and will take Indiana to the next level. I will live near the water tower on the hill.

Looking for Info

Just wondering what is the best webpage to look for future development but mainly just restaurants. I tried the gov site and even the Indiana gazette but there isn’t much news at all. At one point I saw a post or two about a Panera, Firehouse Subs, and a Texas Roadhouse coming soon but not much else…

Election Day is on 11/7, vote!

Just a last-minute reminder to make plans to vote on Tuesday, 11/7!

It might be an off year, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything going on! State Supreme Court, Superior Court, and Commonwealth Court seats will be on the ballot, as well as many local municipal and school board elections.

These local elections are small-scale, but they also have the biggest direct impact on your daily life! They're responsible for making sure your roads are maintained, that your kids have a functional school to go to, they provide social services, and, above all, make sure your community's day-to-day needs are met. So treat this election as a referendum on how your local officials are doing in their jobs!

Hours: 7AM - 8PM. If you are in line by 8PM, you are allowed to vote (Do not get out of line or you forfeit your chance!).

Polling Location: Put in your address here to find your polling location:

https://www.vote.org/polling-place-locator/

or alternatively on the Pennsylvania state website here: https://www.pavoterservices.pa.gov/Pages/PollingPlaceInfo.aspx

Sample Ballot: Download a sample ballot by putting in your address here:

https://ballotpedia.org/Sample_Ballot_Lookup

Did you request a mail-in ballot and haven't mailed it yet? Civilian absentee and mail in ballots must be received by the county elections office by 8 pm. Postmarks do not count. If you have not yet mailed your mail-in or absentee ballot, you may be able to drop it off in a ballot drop box; each county is slightly different in whether they allow drop boxes, the full list throughout the state can be found here!

Did you request a mail-in ballot but changed your mind and want to vote in person? You still can! Just make sure to bring your mail ballot with you to the polls so that you can surrender it!

Are you uncertain if you're allowed/able to vote at your polling place? If you have concerns on whether or not you are eligible to vote but still want to, you can still go to the polls in person and request a provisional ballot! These ballots are held off to the side while election officials determine whether your vote is valid. The link has a list of reasons why you might be uncertain, such as your name note being in the polling book, you are unable to show ID, your mail ballot was rejected but you believe you are eligible to vote, etc.

If you witness or suspect intimidation, suppression, or fraud at your polling place, contact the authorities.

If you run into issues with voting, contact your county election office (full list found here)!

In addition to your county election office, here is another number to call if you are having any issues with voting:

https://protectthevote.net/what-to-share-with-your-community/

  • 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683) – English language hotline
  • 888-VE-Y-VOTA (888-839-8682) – Spanish language hotline

Spotlight PA also put together a thorough nonpartisan FAQ here.

...And just like that, you've done one of the most important things you can do in a democracy: participate.

I will be posting this reminder in various PA subreddits that don't already have one posted, so I apologize in advance for the spam.

Groundhogs by Hampton Inn

My wife attended IUP and we used to drive past the hillside where the Hampton is. Years ago that hillside was always covered in groundhogs and I was wondering if that's still the case. If so, does anyone have a picture because no one I tell believes me about it.
