There is a lot of talk in Football/Soccer about players being over coached, resulting in a lack of flair and maverick type players in the modern game.
Has the same happened to DJing? This obsession with key matching, mixes needing to be seamless and perfect, DJs setting markers throughout their track for mixing points then rigidly sticking to that, afraid to switch genres up during a set.
Is the whole scene becoming stale and robotic? a little bit formulaic?
Discuss.
I dj 3-4 times a week at club or corporate gigs. Before this, I practiced at home almost everyday. Now I never do and my time at home is spent organizing music, finding new edits, prepping songs, etc.
Intriguing mix to say the least
I've been getting back into djing again after a few year haitus and have been rebuilding my music library mostly from scratch. I've noticed that on Beatport, there is significant lack of diversity of genres outside of the general dance room tempos (100-135ish)
Dubstep seemingly has 3 categories at best while Drum and Bass has just the one, and then by contrast there are like 15+ categories for 100-135 bpm genres.
I feel like we could use a bit more nuance than that, but might be just be me...?
Is it just a simple difference in scope of audience and Beatport is just catering to that?
What are everyone else's thoughts?
Hey y’all, I was curious as to which approach y’all take to promoting/ contacting. I’ve been thinking about which way I’d like to go with them all having their pros and cons. I’ve thought about basic business cards, a dot. card/watch, a link tree, or just social media advertisement? Just curious if it’s best to keep it old school, or move it to social media for todays terms. I appreciate it!

I am going to buy a new mixer and I’m torn between these.
I know a lot of people have a lot of opinions on all of them.
I’ve used the v10 and the a9 and honestly really liked the a9. But I know the v10 is a beast.
Never used a xone but have friends that love the xone. How are the fx and filters and what not on the xone?
What do you guys think I should buy?
Looking to form an Ireland based DJ COLLECTIVE to create content, record live mixes, promote, collaborate, release music and eventually organise live shows.
WOULD LOVE TO CONNECT WITH OTHER DJ’S WHO WOULD BE INTEREST in being a part of the project
Progressive HOUSE / melodic house / minimal / techno / Electonica
DM if interested
I mix 100% in headphones and I'm coming from a club set up with a cue mix and master knob.
I can't seem to get used to the battle configuration of the headphone cue slider and the knob between cue and master. To my understanding battle mixers are supposed to be the fastest way around the decks and this seems to be completely awkward for doing a quick headphone cue check.
Has anyone else experienced this issue on battle mixers
Currently using a djm800, two xdj1000's, second hand audio technica lp120 and two 5 inch krks.
Since the djm800 has broken and it's an expensive fix, I'm looking to buy a second hand xone px5.
will I notice a difference in the sound with the small monitor speakers?
down the line I will buy better speakers (any suggestions too for a bedroom setup will be appreciated hopefully 2x 8-10 inch and maybe a small sub)
Thank you :)
The mixer I use on the regular at home is a DJM-750mk2. It’s not a great sounding mixer especially if you’re playing vinyl. I lended it to a buddy a few days ago and pulled my old 800 out of retirement. I have no idea how I ever even used this thing. I honestly thought something was wrong with it but no, this is truly what it always sounded like. Screaming mids, no definition in the high end, very muddy low end. Im honestly dumbfounded that this hunk of shit was once “industry standard”
Just a rant

Hey all,
I don't know how to use ANY of this stuff and have been googling but I keep getting generic DJ gift lists. I'm trying to get my girlfriend (23) a gift who already has the headphones, DDJ-FLX6, and the carrying case. Anyone have ideas for something that works with that and costs less than say $750ish? She already has a Rekordbox subscription. Was hoping to add to the "kit" for lack of a better term. Oh, she likes throwbacks, party, pop hits, some house, hip hop / rap, vs just straight EDM if that matters. Thanks in advance!
i’ve been saving up for a pair of cdj2000nxs1’s (can’t afford nxs 2’s), but found an opportunity to get a pair of 900’s for ~1k less. missing hot cues would be a bummer but i don’t rely on them for mixing, just use them to jump to mixing points faster/easier. otherwise i can’t think of much more i’d be missing, aside from jog tension adjust. would appreciate input from folks who’ve used both. should i snag these or keep saving up?
Hi, I am just getting started into DJing. I stick to something better when I have someone to do it with. Wondering if there are any meet up groups in NYC for up and coming DJs?
Thanks
Okey so my father found and gave me a fully functional vestax pmc 30 and I really do not have a use for it so I am thinking about selling it. What would be a fair price for it?
Is anyone familiar with this controller?
Is anyone using it in 2024?
If so, how relevant ir obsolete is it today?
Not sure what’s happening here, I’m on CDJ 900 nexus but have used 3000s and rx3s and still had this same problem, this specific track is much worse than the others, it’s normal 0.2-0.3 change, I’m used to mixing by ear and tempo sliders, but this problem is constantly messing up my mixes, and throwing people off when I go b2b. I’ve tried a new USB, completely updated that record box software, so now I’m at a complete loss on how to fix this, can’t find a fix for this problem anywhere so would be massively appreciated if anyone has any answers? (Tried to upload a video of a certain track changing from 130-126 but wasn’t able to post)
Was thinking of getting a XDJ RX3 but I’m worried about storage being an issue. Any tips?
I'm looking to get a portable recorder that I can use to record my sets when playing out and also mixes at home. After doing some research I know that I want a recorder that can record 4 tracks (2 from mixer rec out, and 2 from the internal mics to capture crowd noise). The model that came up the most when looking was the tascam dr-40. From what I can tell, there's not a massive difference betweeen the newer dr-40x and the older dr-40, but the older model is much cheaper and more available second hand. Does anyone on here have experience with either of these devices?
Im curious because i would like to make more interest in the scene for vinyl dj sets and i would like to propose the idea of having dj nights at the only local record shop i know in a way that Amsterdam and London are doing. But im pretty sure that the record shop wont pay the DJs. So im curious do you get paid if a record shop asks you to play a set during the day (7-9pm f.e.)
It has been a few years since I use to DJ regularly, but I've been asked to DJ at my friend's wedding and want to make sure I do a good job. I need a pair of headphones that will help me distinguish kick drums for beat matching, but I don't need anything too fancy. The Sennheiser HD 400S seem like a good value option, but I haven't found much information about DJs using them.
In the past I used TMA-1s, as well as MX50s or HD-25s, but I don't have access to those anymore.
Does anyone have experience with the HD 400S headphones for DJing at events like weddings? Or can you recommend affordable options suitable for someone in my situation?
I found my old BOSS ME-50 guitar pedal and hoping I can connect this and use with my xone96, anyone know if this is even possible? If not, I have seen others using similar but smaller pedals, is there something needed connection wise on certain pedals for it to be compatible with the 96?
