Hello all I am a very experienced wedding DJ but, more usually, I am DJing at a birthday party in December and have been asked if I can accommodate some karaoke. I normally refuse but I think I'm prepared to allow some on this occasion. What equipment can I use? Last year I loaded the Karafun app onto an ipad equipped with a Bluetooth transmitter to my mixer. Then i realised the Karafun app doesn't allow audio from the headphone jack (seemingly on purpose - possibly to prevent commercial use - I contacted their support team). So I don't actually know how to offer karaoke. Thanks.
I'm looking at these options of lighting a 24 inch mirror ball
2 Chauvet Intimidator 260 x either side OR a single Chauvet Intimidator375zx from the front
What do you think would look better in this space ?
The hall is 50mx20m
The mirror ball will be onstage about 7m out from the wall
Thanks All!
Hi all! I'm looking for something I can set-up and forget while I DJ. Is there anything on the market along the lines of this
I have a QSC Touch-Mix 8 and an iPad with a USB-C charging port.
What cable do I need to use DJay on the iPad and play through the QSC?
I don't need to mix or cue anything. This is just to play songs from the iPad into the mixing board for a ceremony, or a playlist for cocktail hour.
Will this work, or do I need something else?
This weekend I did a backyard tented bday/Halloween party for 6 hours about 120 guests.
It was wild. Being it was a backyard and it’s October, the grass was dead and people DANCED. When the night was over and the lights came on, I noticed there was a film of dirt/dust on EVERYTHING. My controller, speakers, booth. Crazy! The next day I open my laptop and just run my hand across the keyboard and my hands turned black with dirt.
I have a wedding this weekend at an elegant place and I’m gonna have to show up early just to clean everything.
I have alcohol pads for laptop…. But what do I do/don’t do use for the rest of my stuff so as not to damage it. Controller? Subs, speaker poles, tops, booth, etc etc. Lysol wipes and paper towels? Just use a duster? Help me!
Hello
I’m looking for some pointers. I have an existing light setup using a combination of ADJ and Chauvet wash/moving head/scan. I am also using SoundSwitch with the One controller and have my 4 lights running off a single universe via DMX/XLR cables in a daisy chain.
This works brilliantly.
I have now purchased 4 x 360 tube lights from Both Lighting which are wireless only DMX.
I am wondering how others would consider approaching integrating them in to the setup? I know I can buy wireless transceivers for all lights - but I have heard mixed reviews of the “affordable” options like Donner and how they can just cutout mid event. Does anyone have experience with brands like that at this price range?
I was wondering if I was to add a single transmitter in the daisy chain, would the signal be available to the wireless lights and therefore it’s a mixture of wired and wireless?
I’m happy to spend a bit to get a reliable setup but don’t want to have to spend £500+ at this moment.
Interested in people’s experience and thoughts on this.
I’m choosing not to hire a live DJ, but it’s not because I don’t value their work or see their services as important. It just comes down to a few factors like location, timing, and budget. My fiancé and I would love to hire someone to produce a mix based on a playlist we’ve curated together.
Where’s the best place to find someone for this? Is it possible to check out some portfolios or samples beforehand? And what’s a reasonable price range? Thanks! !
EDIT: Thank you all so much for responding!
I gave a quote that included these factors:
$700 to cover flight (if booked soon, it is in the $600ish range now with checked bags etc.)
$500 to cover 3 nights (prices are pretty good right now for excellent hotels right near the property, two nights before and the night of the wedding itself)
$300 to cover expenses over 3 days: meals, transport, etc.
$1500 - fee for work
---
$3000 total. I think that is pretty reasonable. I am hoping the A/V company doesn't charge more than $2000 so $5000 for DJ (for an American couple) is fine...let's see what they say. If you have feedback on this quote please share!

What's Up DJ Friends?
I am based in NYC and was asked about my availability and rate for a wedding in Mallorca, Spain next year.
Very excited about this! I have traveled a bit regionally to DJ weddings and other functions including when I have had to get A/V companies to set up for me, but I have no idea how much to ask for something like this. I would love any feedback. I am okay with going by myself (I DJ and MC) and I don't want to shortchange myself and at the same time I do not want to ask for an exuberant amount without knowing what the market is like out there. Of course rate should cover travel and accommodation, just don't know what to go for in terms of hiring a company to do this work. I am asking whether the venue has in-house sound I could use, and I would love to get your thoughts on either scenario (assuming I am hired just for DJing/MCing and nothing else like lighting, special effects, etc.).
For context, the bride reached out to me because we're both from the same culture (not Spanish), so it's not like she can easily find a DJ that would suit her celebration.
Thanks!
Does anyone have experience with these? How do they compare with Both, Lume Cube, Ape Labs etc?
Looking to invest in some high-quality lighting without having to deal with truss and these seem like a solid option. Wondering if the Titans will be overkill.
I am doing some rave/club type installs as well and I think these will make a big impression but obviously it’s a large investment.

I'm trying to clean out unsuitable music from my library and I could do with some help as to which to keep and what to deleted. I'm struggling with the file sizes and types that I can't play out live as the sound quality will be to poor. Please help, any suggestions. Thanks.
In the image - across the top is bitrate and down the side is file type.
I have added green to the ones I think I should keep and can play out live and red on the ones to remove from Rekordbox and not pay out live.
Hey all. I've been a wedding DJ in NYC and the surrounding tri-state for around a decade. While working I've only ever used Sennheiser Mics. I used to use EW G3's, then in 2019 I upgraded to two EW 100 G4 835-S.
Looking back I have rarely had issues with RF static or cutting on my mics. When I first started 10 years ago I wouldn't even scan the area for open frequencies unless the mics sounded bad on setup. And I rarely had problems. Cut to a few weekends ago I was running some toasts at cocktail hour and had static and cut out with the mic maybe 10ft from the receiver (using stock antennas here). I had obviously scanned for frequencies, but then guests arrived and I didn't have time to do it again. I assumed I would be fine but somehow the signal was bad.
Last weekend I was running ceremony on a dock and watched as my RF took a huge hit when a tugboat passed by. This was WITH two Sennheiser A 1031-U Omni's that I had brought. Probably 50ft between the mic and the antennas.
I am finding my clients asking about mic clarity and dropout more and more. I want to be on top of it and to be able to reassure them. If you explain to clients that you cannot control RF signals from tugboats they don't care they just go "so will it work or not?". I am finding that even with me scanning for open signals and using decent mics, I still have issues.
What is everyone using here? How do you ensure a good setup? Are there things I'm missing? I'm thinking of buying directional antennas. Or upgrading to EW-D system. Any thoughts or opinions on the subject would be super valuable!
I want to generate online leads to get wedding gigs for my DJ business. I plan to run Facebook ads using their on-Facebook forms where the potential client will add their contact info.
I need help finding a CRM that works as follows:
In an ideal world, the Facebook ad would collect lead info, then Zapier would automatically create a lead in a CRM. When the lead is created in the CRM, it would automatically send a text message to the lead who just submitted their info, either done directly through the CRM itself or through another automation set up on Zapier.
I’m trying to streamline the lead generation process as much as possible since I can’t always text the lead within 5 minutes of getting their info. Contacting people quickly really is the best way to convert more leads, so I want to automate this process.
I’m open to a combination of services/softwares. The most important being:
I have already looked into DJ Intelligence, SMPL Events, and DJEP, but none of them integrate with Zapier. SMPL has all the functionality I want, aside from not integrating with Zapier.
If you have worked out this automation/workflow another way (using a different type of FB ad maybe?), I’d like to hear about it too! I’m looking for solutions here. Thank you!
I’ve been asked to DJ for two hours for a middle school dance, and I gave them the following proposal: $150 hr rate for middle/high school functions, rate for 2 hrs of DJ/MC service , including 1 hr for setup and 1 hour for breakdown live, equipment to include 2 12” PA monitors and 1 15” subwoofer, DJ mixer/controller, media(dvs/digital media, microphone, lighting and a custom playlist.
Dance committee (made up of teachers) balked at my price, stating they previously had a DJ who did dances for $200, and only want to offer me $300. No disrespect, but I’m not that DJ, and I provide a highly engaging set with high quality sound.
Am I being an asshole for wanting say thanks, but no thanks?
picked up a used pair or Carvin TRC400a in white (column arrays), they fit perfectly with my wedding themes. I tried them for the first time for a small engagement party last week, and the two column speakers on top of one subwoofer kept cutting out everytime i raise the volume to dancing level yet they work great when the volume at low or medium level.
i reached out to Carvin customer support, and they said there's something wrong with the amp, maybe some wire needs soldering and they even sent me the schematic of the amp...they told my options were, look for a technician to maybe look at the amp as they stopped servicing that amp anymore... or purchase the newer version of the amp for $400 but i would have to carve out the sub because the newer amp is bigger than older (they sent me fitting measurements).
i pulled out the amp and been looking at it for a week trying to see if there's anything broken, anything loose, anything at all, but no luck, i even pulled out all the wires connected to the motherboard and reconnected them, yet no luck.... the speaker plus sub work great at low to medium volume, yet once i raise to the volume to "dancing level" the tops cut out but the sub keeps working.
apologies about the lengthy post… any suggestions ?
I do the annoucning for my kids basketball/football games. I use Djay and a party mix just to have mechanical faders and a few sample pads for drops such as fog horn and audio clips for big plays. The setup works but is a little cumbersome.
I think I would to go to just a sample pad that I could pre load with some songs, and drops. Preferably I would like something that I could label digitally so that I dont have to memorize the order.and I would love to have a volume fader so I could fade in and out of songs/samples. A mic input would be huge as well to limit the amount of wires in and out. Any thoughts?
I had a woman from a wedding party come up to me at the end of my set and say “the bride is sending you a tip on Venmo” I said thanks and it never came. I’m fairly certain the bride knew my venmo name. My question is, do you all ever get told you’re getting a tip and it never comes? It’s been 9 days, should I follow up?
Not dissing the song itself but dear god, I’ve never seen a dance floor clear off more quickly 😂
I DJ'd a wedding ceremony this summer. Two weeks before the event, the bride calls me asking if I can manage a slideshow. Someone at the venue was going to do it, but got fired. So, I made a powerpoint presentation of their pictures and we used the projector from the venue to display it during dinnertime. For this, I added a small extra charge to the client for my labor and equipment rental.
This worked out all right and did not require much extra effort on my part. I'm thinking it might be worth the investment to purchase a projector and offer this type of service as an extra feature. Any thoughts or gear recommendations?
I’m looking to build a lighting setup like the video above. I don’t know where to start, what lights and equipment I need to get and how do I control them. Please give me tips on how to get started with something like this and what software I need to get to make them sync up with the music.
Second hand full LD Systems PA system listing containing 2x Stinger 8 A, 1x Stinger sub 15 A, along with a MON series 10 inch monitor and all the stands + cables. For the same price that Id be able to buy two budget 15 inch tops (mackie thumps, ld systems icoa etc.)
Use case would be for house parties.
The question is whether I should even consider 8 inch speakers as everyone seems to recommend 12/15, but I'm thinking that I would be using a high cut going to the tops anyway above the lowest frequency that the 8 inches can reproduce.
I am getting a 192 channel dmx board. I have a light fixture that has 20 channels but the board only can have 16 per fixture. Will it overflow into the next fixture? And will I be able to control it?
Any videos or guides on how to set up dmx controller and lights for newbies?
