Babu’s tracks

Can anyone identify what Dj Babu was spinning here, and know of they’re available in the beat junkies pool?

Feedback on technique after a looong hiatus

I got back to turntablism three month ago after a 15 years hiatus and I recently made a gig, I would like a feedback on what I should work on. Are my scratchs ok by today's standards ?

Here's two shorts clips of this gig : https://www.instagram.com/p/C5bdOV0i71M/?igsh=OWttNXlkbjNxeHd0 (this sub doesn't allow for videos)

Thanks by advance !

Only one turntable working in Serato DVS

Hey everyone, I just got my second turntable and a DVS system, but I'm having an issue. Only one turntable is working in the Serato DVS.

The DVS interface I have is the Reloop Flux, and my mixer is the DJ-Tech DIF-25 MK2. The mixer has a DVS switch.

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong here?e?

Starter Turntables - Numark TT1520 vs Stanton T60 vs Gemini XL600

Hiya, I'm looking to pick up a set of entry level turntables to mix on, I've came across Numark tt1520s, Stanton T60's and Gemini XL600s for roughly the same price. I'll be mostly mixing house, techno and dub records so not much scratching required.

Can anyone shed some light on these turntables?

Pioneer Rev7 with Rane Twelve mkII

I've seen some users talking about using rev7 as a mixer with turntables and phase.

My question is, will it work with rane 12 mkII? Either using usb or rca? And if so, will i get the full features of the rev7 mixer (cues, stems, loops) - Or just the part in the mixer (meaning loops excluded e.g)? Or not even cues etc

Tone arm level and butter rugs - possible cause for bouncing?

With my butter rugs they are so thin even w the tonearm hight set to 0 there’s still a decent angle down.

Curious what others have done to keep arm level when using butter rugs. Have folks found this to cause issues with juggling?

Trying to chase down culprit for needle bouncing around during juggling.

These are older 1200’s MK2’s that were pretty beat up.

Anti skate tested fine. Stays in place at 0 returns when moved from 0-3. Didn’t feel any bearing issues. Do have concerns about the spindle on one of them though. Need to swap RCA’s and will inspect then.

Jico 447 set to 4.5 (max specification)

  • note they are about 6 weeks old but should have close to 10hrs on them.

Leveled to get to a .0 - .04 divergence going around the platter.

Obviously it could easily be me, which I’ve been highly sensitive to, but I never remember having this much of an issue juggling years ago.

How good is Ecler's stock cross fader?

I just picked up a used Ecler Nuo 3.0 and I was wondering how you would review the stock (i.e. non Eternal) crossfader?

Obviously the Eternal fader is superior and the way to go for committed turntablists. But the stock fader can't be terrible, I assume?

I'm coming from a Mackie d.2 with its Infinium contact-free cross fader.

I may end up getting the eternal fader eventually, or I may not bother (I'm actually only an occasional scratcher. The Ecler attracts me for the form factor and pre-amps as much as anything else).

Scratching device that doesnt need actual vinyl

So I'm making boom bap beats as a hobby and was looking for a way to add some scrathing into my beats. I'd like something that doesnt need actual vinyl, like Portablism SC500, but I have tried it at friends home studio and it sound okay, but feels too small for me to get anything good down.

I also own SP404mk2 and would like to be able to record scratches into that or actual daw on PC.

Using Innofader pro2 as channel faders for Vestax 07

Hello all,

As the title says, I have them in channel fader positions as well as one for crossfader so its all buttery smooth and generally delightful.

However I've recently noticed an issue whereby I get a tiny burst of signal at full level when I open the crossfader from either side when the channel faders are down/off.

I have tried all the factory reset stuff and other presets from the instructions but nothing seems to fix it. I put the old vestax channel faders back in to check and no burst of noise at all.

Very puzzling. I was having an email conversation with elliot about it but it's gone abit silent on his end now. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this?

Cheers

Best headphones for monitoring scratching/routines?

Trying to avoid driving my neighbours (and mrs) mental will drills and practice routines.

Need a decent pair of headphones to practice and get speed up.

I’ve had hd25’s before which were good for playing out, however also had dt770’s for production.

Wasn’t sure if there was anything new out or any recommendations??

Technics SL1210MK2 weak magnet

I've just setup my old Technics SL1210mk2 decks that have been in storage for 15+ years. One of them, a late 90s model, is absolutely fine but the other one, an early 90s model, has a remarkably weak magnet.

I remember back when I was using them years ago, it was a real struggle to get the platter off, the magnet was that strong but now it comes off ridiculously easily and with the spindle still attached (the spindle stays in the deck on my other one).

There's no real noticeable issue with the turntable when playing. It starts and stops pretty much as you'd expect, maybe not quite as well as the other so do you think this is nothing to worry about or a sign that it may be on the way out?

Looking for a record cutting service (skipless/digitally controlled speed control)

Anyone have a guy? Got a record I want to make that has skipless scratch sections and some other stuff. Would need to be someone that uses a Technics SP02 motor or something non-lyrec and has set up for accurate speed control outside of whatever frequency is coming out of the wall.

For example, a Jico headshell is compatible with a Ortofon cartridge? And vice versa?

Cartridge for Stanton T.120

Hey everyone,

I need an advice on a good cartridge for the Stanton T.120 straight arm. Not doing any scratching just looking for audio quality. I know that 120 is not regarded as good turntable but it served me well all these years. Would Audio-Technica AT-VM95E/H be a good choice.

Also, i need advice on how to properly balance the arm on Stanton when installing a new cartridge.

Which Mixer for Vinyl Sessions

Background:

I had two setups in my previous studio, one with a Mixars Duo and two Technics SL 1200 Mk2 to use either with Serato or vinyl only sessions, and the other setup consisted of a Vestax PMC 05 Pro IV with two Mixars LTA, a Rane SL2, an Akai guitar pedal, an iPad, Vestax Pad-One, Novation Dicers and a Vestax PMC 05 Pro SL to use sometimes with Serato, but mainly to make experimental noise sessions with scratch, loops and effects or for reggae/dancehall/dub sessions. Everything worked fine and sometimes I would change the mixers depending on my needs.

Now because of lack of space I have a setup with the Vestax PMC 05 Pro IV and the two Technics for vinyl only sessions and the other setup with one Mixars LTA with the Duo to prepare stuff for Serato. When needed I change the mixers for Serato sessions.

Everything else is now impossible and I don’t know when I will have the possibility to have two setups the way I would like to. Plus, because of a momentarily financial situation I sold the Dicers, the Rane SL2, the laptop where this setup was connected to (MacBook Pro 2012) and I’m selling the guitar pedal and one of the Mixars turntables.

The Vestax PMC 05 Pro IV feels short for what I actually need for my vinyl only setup, sure I love the crossfader but I need something more. I’m willing to sell it and maybe the Pro SL too (this one hurts actually) and with the money buy a second hand mixer for 300$ and save the rest of the money.
In a better financial situation I would get either a Reloop Elite or a Rane Seventy.
But for now I need something to replace the Pro IV and I list the possibilities of mixers that fit my the budget and would maybe be a good option for vinyl only sessions, I’ll list others that I also find interesting but outside my budget:

Whithin budget:

Ecler Nuo 2.0 – starting at 200$. No USB. No hardware effects.
Vestax PMC-280 – starting at 150$. No USB. No fader settings.
NI Traktor Kontrol Z2 – starting at 200$. No hardware effects.

Outside my budget there’s several that come to mind:

Vestax PMC-08 Pro – starting at 700$. No hardware FX.
Vestax PMC-580 Pro – starting at 800$. No USB
Pioneer DJM-450 – starting at 500$. Fader settings limited but would probably be my choice if I had the money.
Rane Sixty Two – starting at 800$.
Reloop Elite – saw one for 600$ (it probably has some issues) but generally they're above 1000$.

So, which mixer inside my budget would you pick? I would like one that’s versatile. Is there any other mixer that I should consider? The Xone 23 is out, great sound but can’t see that mixer together with my Technics...

And outside my budget, price range 300$-800$, which mixer would you pick? Remind you that I would want to use the mixer mainly with vinyl, but sure some extras would be great.

Timecode vinyl needle sound

Sup.

Is there any way to diminish the whine coming out straight from the needle on the record with time code vinyl and for that matter regular records.

I know it's normal basically, but i'd like to if i can minimize it.

Cheers!

Noob question: better to get matching turntables or does it really matter?

Ive been messing around with a controller and finally bit the bullet and bought my first turntable. I saw a crazy deal for an open box Reloop RP-8000 mk2 on Amazon. Product doesn’t look used at all just missing the manual

I also just ordered a NuMark scratch mixer and should be here tomorrow. I plan to do a single TT for now.

Is it advisable to get an exact match for my other TT? Or would a RP-7000 work fine (I think the main difference is that it doesn’t have all the midi buttons). I presume the 7000 and 8000 function the same. Eventually I will add a phase system.

Phase not recognizing remotes after attempting to update

I just tried to update my phase firmware and it failed when trying to update the remotes. Now phase manager is not recognizing any of my remotes (4) but it does recognize the receiver. Anyone know a trick to reset the remotes?

Please help me buy the right ones!

This is gonna sound so cliché and stupid but I’ve been DJing for like 25 years and have been on my techniques 1200 mk2’s which at the time I bought used and were absolute work horses, and still work today. However, I make a lot more money now, and think it’s time to treat myself to a new pair of turntables. The reason I’m reaching out is I want to make sure I buy the right decks I haven’t been spinning on vinyl for quite some time as I’ve been on different interfaces, but would like to get back to my roots. I really enjoyed my techniques because they were great for scratching and mixing but I’m just looking for some insight on if they still hold the crown or should I go with the pair of software ready pioneers? I like having the ability to incorporate scratching at times but mostly will just be mixing vinyl. Also what stylus cartridges would be most recommended for scratching/mixing as I was always on Shure 44-7s in the past. Like I said, I kind of feel like an idiot for even having to ask this question but it’s been so long that I figured I would reach out to people that are still currently rocking decks. All thoughts and insight will be greatly appreciated🙏

I spin Chicago House, tech house, minimal, dnb, breaks, and like to mess around with scratching.

AT XP3 vs Numark CC-1?

What’s up everybody, I want to start with vinyl and I am low in budget. I am deciding whether to go for a AT-XP3 or a Numark CC-1? Any of you have any experience with those two cartridges? Are they okay to start given that I’ll use them mainly to learn how to beatmatch and to do basic transitions? Also feel free to drop any budget friendly alternatives!!

Imma be in Vegas and I know some of the beat junkies used to play clubs there so I'm sure there's others doing gigs there. Would love to see a show of anyone knows how I would find out? Thank you so much for any info.

Was Psychedelic Skratch Bastards really released in 1992?

Trying to sort out my mental history of Scratch Records and 92 (source Discogs) seems a little early stylistically. SuperDuckBreaks was 96 and I don't see a lot of Battle Records inbetween.

How much would you pay for this?

Found this on the market the other day, looking to buy a first setup and I’m very budget-limited. Might be worth waiting and saving up to get something proper, but wondered what are people’s thought on this?
