This year, from mid-November through early January, The Garden of Lights display transforms Brookside Gardens into a magical winter wonderland. Stroll through the one-half mile, outdoor, walk-through exhibit and enjoy the twinkling lights and glimmering one-of-a-kind displays adorning the flowerbeds and grounds throughout the 50-acre horticultural gem in Wheaton.
You're invited to WABA’s 5th Great Montgomery County Bike Summit, Sunday afternoon, September 29 in Wheaton. Maryland State Highway Administrator Will Pines will keynote. The full program is at https://waba.org/MoCoSummit2024.
We got out a note yesterday, with some background: Why attend WABA’s 5th Great Montgomery County Bike Summit? And what’s with the “5th”? Here's a short excerpt:
Maryland has experienced 410 road deaths statewide so far in 2024. Both statewide and local efforts are needed, to advance road safety and build out our bicycle network. Join us on September 29 to join us in our work: https://waba.org/blog/2024/09/5th-great-moco-summit/
Just moved to MD. Looking for people to go to the gym with around Silver Spring/ Wheaton MD area. I have a membership at LA fitness and don’t mind sparing a guest pass if you don’t have a membership.
How’s the application proce
Hi all!
I wanted to share a great (and time-sensitive!) opportunity to get involved in the community. My organization, Generation Hope, helps DMV and Baltimore-area teen parents graduate from college, and we're looking for mentors to work with our students. As a mentor, you have an opportunity to build a meaningful relationship with a young parent in college and make a tangible difference in their life by both investing in them financially and providing ongoing emotional support. It's a really unique opportunity that's super rewarding, and less than 2% of teen moms graduate college by age 30, so the need is huge. We can only accept as many students in our program as we have mentors for, and we still need to recruit about 10 more mentors for the Scholars who have applied so that we do not have to turn away amazing young parents. We are hoping to receive all mentor applications in the next week or so!
If you are interested, please feel free to DM me your email so I can connect with you! Please feel free to also reach out directly to me at caroline@generationhope.org. You can also learn more at www.generationhope.org/mentor.
Note - If you are not able to provide funding for a scholarship but want to mentor, we have limited funded slots available, so please feel free to still reach out! With those slots, we especially try to support mentors who share lived experience with our students, such as former teen/student parents.
Thank you for considering!
Hi all. I’m curious if anyone has suggestions about affordable wifi options. I wfh once per week and watch some movies to give an idea of my usage. Right now I pay about 85$ monthly through RCN. TIA.
Starting with El Catrachito! I think it’s a Honduran restaurant. I am always so grateful of how diverse and unique this corner of the town is. What are some of your favorite Wheaton restaurants? How about hidden gems—not necessarily restaurants. Can’t wait to hear y’all’s insight.
Currently trying to move. I toured the apartment and seems like a nice place but the Google reviews have me second guessing.
