My F31 application was assigned to a study section with only one member who appears to do similar work. There were other study sections I thought would have been more suitable. I’m afraid my section won’t be familiar with my methods. How did this happen? Did the other sections get full, so they placed me in this one? This is a resubmission, and last cycle it was in a much more suitable study section, so I’m not sure what happened this time. Has this happen to anyone before and if yes, did you end up receiving a good score anyway?
Could anyone clarify the start date for the IRTA postbac program? I've heard you can select your own start date, but most people choose between July and August. I also noticed the NIAID application was recently released, but others may not have been yet. Additionally, is the application process still centralized like the SIP, where you rank institutes and your #1 choice is the institute you work at, or is it institute-specific? Thanks in advance!
Hi, I'm a international MD and currently enrolled in a PhD program in my home country. My home institude in planning to fund me as a visiting scientist to study at NIH for one year. I learned that my visa would be sponsored by NIH as a J1 exchange scholar, but I am curious about which designation would I be ? Could anyone please guide me on it since I can't open the link of the NIH designations chart. Would I be a postdoc fellowship or a guest researcher since I'm not going to receive stipend from IC? I need to know my designation to ask my home institude for the amount of funding that meet NIH requirement.Thank you
I am an applicant who has interviewed and trying to understand how long it takes for the grant notice of award to be released. Ideally, the position should have started in September (the institution already had this program funded and the other position I interviewed for is increasing their number of postdocs so adding a T32 spot in the same program)
I was interested in applying for a postdoc position at NCI but heard about the hiring freeze going on at the institute. Does anyone know when it will be lifted (or if it already has been)? I just want to see if it is viable option based on my graduation timeline.
I am just curious. I wanted to "secure" a spot earlier rather than later, so I don't stress about it all academic year. I intend to study with NCI.
When would you all optimally start preparing an app and sending emails to PIs?
Could anyone describe the differences in stipends across the institutes? I understand that NCI (CRTA) and NIAID receive more funding from Congress, resulting in higher stipends for postbaccs. How does the stipend for NHLBI compare, particularly for someone entering with two years of wet experience in academic labs across universities?
This might be a dumb question and i’m really sorry abt tht but I was wondering if the nci hiring freeze affects interns
Is eRA Commons/ASSIST down today?
I've looked but cand find the RFP or any other bidding documents. Are there any updates on this effort? Also would be curious to look at their URS (User requirement Specs)
Thanks
Hi everyone, can someone please recommend a step-by-step guide or youtube channel or with experience an ideal way to construct for F32 grants?
Hey everyone! I’ve been emailing a lot of PIs for an opportunity to interview for a post bac position since May with no luck. I’ve only received one response, which is when I found out the NCI is on a hiring freeze. Does anyone know how to figure out any available PIs looking for post bac candidates? Currently in school for bioinformatics and computational biology but my interests definitely stem beyond that.
I started the onboarding process for a contract position with the on of the NIH divisions and although I filled out my NED personal info four days ago, I have yet to receive the mandatory trainings email. Is this normal? I’m thinking of reaching out to the person who’s helping me out to verify.
My grant is showing up in a strange way in eRA commons:
Has anyone else seen something like this before? The title of my grant is still there, and I only have one submitted so I'm not sure if other grants are affected...
Blue screens on Windows? PCs in recovery mode?
Any PI or institues professors here?? Can someone please tell me a realistic timeline fo hearing back form NIH if about their funding decisions? If an application was submitted in 2023 september- how long can the NIH take to approve/ disapprove funding for a particular positio
Anyone going to the grad fair this week? Come and say hi if you see me!
I am interested in being an undergraduate research at NIEHS and I was wondering if anyone knew whether remote opportunities have been offered in the past by PIs.
Hi, I’m currently a neuroscience undergraduate (junior) who wants to work at the NIH. I’m planning on going to graduate school and then going into research (neurodegenerative diseases) as a career. I have applied to the summer NIH internships and programs for the last two years with no luck. I was wondering if anyone has any advice for breaking into the industry.
Hello everyone!
I have a friend who only has a MD and is on a temporary 2 year work visa.
What are their options of working as medical researcher for the NIH?
Thank you so much!
Anybody received a suitability denial from NIH in the process of getting a public trust as a contractor?
Anybody tried to apply again in less than a year? And been successful or not?
Anybody have any insight into their policy? Is it a 1 yr definite time frame until applying again or is it more subjective? I've read to wait 1 year, to wait a few months, or try again but have a different institute submit the clearance request as long as the year they ask about on the SF85 has passed since drug use or else (while applying for a different position).
Any insight would help as I know each agency has their own rules. NIH suggests a year but is it absolutely required (has anybody tested this)?
Thanks. A family member is going through this. Trying to help. They answered yes to using a substance, got denied, and the substance use 1 yr period ends next month so they wouldn't have to answer yes on the SF85 if they apply again in a month. Will their app get rejected on site?
Hi, thank you for your time reading this and for any response :).
I'm interviewing for a position at a company that has a contract with the NIH. I'm expecting an offer sometime soon but am worried about a possible pre-employment drug screen.
Does anyone know if companies contracted with the NIH typically do pre-employment drug screens? I'm aware that federal contractors are required to have a drug free workplace policy, but that does not strictly require pre-employment drug screens except for positions that have safety-sensitive functions. The nature of the work is software.
Thank you again for your time reading this and for any response :)
Hi guys,
I'm an international MD with several years of work experience, enrolled in a PhD program. I am looking to spend a year at the NIH in the IRTA program and I was wondering if I'd be considered a predoc or a postdoc, following their policies.
What do you guys think?
or should I wait a couple months?
