What is Ralfy.com's problem with GlenAllacie and Billy Walker I've just seen him causally tare into the 17 YEAR OLD MIZUNARA & OLOROSO FINISH. A few years back he was sucking up to Billy and telling him he'd buy several bottles now it's a constant negativity towards walker and his distillery.
Just wondering if anyone has had much experience with Wolfburn outturns? They seem to have been about for a while, however I never really see them in my local bars and pubs and I've never had a chance to try one.
Curious to see if they're a bit of an underrated gem as nobody really speaks about them and I never see them at trade shows or represented by independent bottling...
Ashamed to say this as an austrian myself, but I haven't had any good austrian Whisky yet. Just today I had the Rocky Whisky by Mandlberggut and was yet again disappointed. Frankly just tasted like alcohol, not much on the nose, barely any taste and no Finish to speak of. I am not going to pretend I am a Whisky expert, but I'd say its kind of like a Johnnie Walker Red Label, and I think I'd even pick the Red Label over it.
I am tired of going from disappointment to disappointment so I am hoping somebody could recommend me a good whisky from personal experience. I want a Whisky I can be proud of as an austrian!
Hi everyone,
I had today a really good Whiskey, Tovuz from the same named region in Azerbaijan. 15 years old, sweet, full smooth taste and so on.
Now I try to collate some information but I can't get access to their homepage. Other sources are very rare as well.
Somebody here who could please help me?
BBQ ain't just for summertime! I found Ardbeg's BizarreBQ to be an intense pour with a surprisingly delightful mouth feel with that perfect mix of smoke and sweet. I was actually blown away by this one! Hard to find right now but if you've got it, pour it, I say. My 5-minute take, for anyone interested: https://youtu.be/yhZQRajlK_U
Hello, I'm kind of a newbie to whisky and I have heard that you should pour whisky into a smaller bottle once the original bottle is more than 2/3 empty, to prevent the whisky from evaporating too much alcohol into the air inside the bottle.
Is this correct? If so, what bottle should I choose? Does any glass bottle that is significantly smaller than the original one suffice, or are there dedicated bottles to this purpose?
Just came back after an amazing week in Scotland.
Landed in Edinburgh, drove up to Pitlochry to spend the night. The next day we woke up early to travel to Craigallachie and take the beautiful road through Cairn Gorm. Made a ton of stops for photography and at the end of the day we arrived at GlenAllachie and Glenfarclas and picked up the exclusives. Had a few drams at the Quick Bar at Craigallachie Hotel and then walked past the road to our hotel, the AMAZING Highlander Inn. Great service, amazing selection and there Maggies Collection bottles are the best.
The next day we drove in the morning with fresh snow to the Speyside Cooperage, after that towards Gordon Macphail, shop was a bit of a disappointment for me. Stopped for lunch at Glen Moray and then to Dufftown, to do the Balvenie tour which was great. Made a stop at Glenfarclas and stayed at the Whisky Capital Inn. They have a collaboration bottle with Highlander Inn from the Maggies Collection, so had to pick up this 11y old Aultmore.
The next day we took the coastal road to Edinburgh to spend our final 2 days there. The SMWS club house at Queen Street and Cadenhead are my highlights. Bow Bar was also great with a friendly bartender. SMWS The Vaults was a huge let down for me. Very unpersonal service and no table service. The bar tender at Queen Street was super friendly and very involved in our tasting notes.
Can’t wait to go back to Scotland, and explore Islay and Campbeltown..
I have to get it online because I live in Korea. I want to buy Still austin cs. It's hard to find cheaper than seelbachs (89.99 store pick) Is there someone know cheap shop?
I have been collecting Penderyn bottles for the last 2 years. Welsh whisky is a great investment especially with the Icons of Wales collection. I have 10 of the 11 bottles but number 5 is far too expensive now and sells for £1500 to £2000 at auction. The majority come with a Box of some sort which really adds character and value to them, my favourite box being from Number 11 which is what you could describe as an old shipping crate. Number 4 (That Try) has a rugby ball as an accessory (which I have thankfully). I suggest you all look in to these whiskys since their value will only go up. Let me know if you have any of these.
This is my first time trying whisk(e)y and ginger ale. I like the smokey stuff and I'm glad it's not lost. May try with Lagavulin (my favorite) next
Hi. Do you have any rule about the serial number of a bottle and the year of production ?
It's been a shocking week. I know nobody likes The Macallan or ice with whisky but they're making me feel better.
My son is somewhat of a whiskey aficionado. Maybe not an aficionado, but definitely a fan. He and a few buddies will get together after their shift and sample different whiskeys and/or bourbons every week. (Firefighters)
I’d like to get him something this holiday that will add to the experience, but I do not want to buy booze, as he has his own taste and I probably won’t hit the mark. It’s like buying a golfer clubs, nice gesture, but probably not what they would prefer.
So Reddit, what would you suggest I could get my son for the holidays that he won’t snub his nose at?
Had to go with a classic
My first attempt at a whisky review on reddit. Using WhiskyBase scores 0-100 to base my final score across Nose, Palate, Finish.
Whisky: Bottler: Octave (Duncan Taylor) Distillery: Glentautchers Age: 14 years 7 months ABV: 47.2%
Nose [Score: 89] At first the nose is very sweet, strawberries and red grapes. Inviting and makes me excited, almost salted caramel
Palate [Score: 92] Immediately its sweet, toffee apples to start, develops more into a rich cherry, jammy figs and sultanas. The palate is amazing, completely unexpected.
Finish [Score 88] Warming spices, nutmeg and cinnamon, still getting some dried fruits coming through, a little nutty and dry
Final Score: 90 (89.6 rounded up)
At first I didnt expect too much from this bottle, I had never tried Glentautchers, but ever since I tried my first few whiskies ive always wanted to branch out. Glad I branched out, an amazing whisky.
