Does anyone have a link for singles of this guy I know it’s probably not worth the money by any means but I have to say. I NEED TO TRY IT!! lol
Today I picked up a LAdC Mi Amore from a local smoke shop. I took it home to smoke right away. It was my first time with this product. As soon as I cut it, the wrapper started to peel apart and come off. About 1/3 the way through the smoke, it had completely lost the wrapper on the cigar. I was pretty disappointed. I’m guessing this is from in proper humidification from the store? I am very new to the cigar world and have never had this happen. Any thoughts? What little of the cigar I was able to smoke, I really enjoyed and will definitely give it another try, but from another shop.
Thoughts?
TIA
I always see talk of Olmec, but I have to say that Aksum might be my favorite of the Foundation blends. What is it about this stick that makes it seemingly not as popular as Olmec?
My all-time favorite places on my annual camping trip that I’ve been doing the offer for close to 40 years at the same guys. After that, I really enjoy driving with my cock down, smoking with a cup of coffee.
5-mile hike to start the morning, deli sandwiches for lunch, a trip to Oconaluftee visitor center, then my first experience with a Claro Olmec. Lovely day.
I am trying to retrohale, I’ve never done it before. My understanding is you exhale through your mouth about halfway, like you normally would. Then you close your mouth, and exhale through your nose. I’ve tried it that way, and also while pushing my tongue up against the roof of my mouth ( as Holts Cigars suggested ). I’ve been smoking for over a year. The experience I get is unpleasant. It burns my nose, it’s horrible… what am I doing wrong? Maybe it’s because it’s a stronger cigar? I’m currently smoking a My Father La Promesa.
I know this has been discussed on this subreddit a lot, but please bare with me.
I have been into cigars for about 7 months now and I see myself smoking cigars for the rest of my life. I truly enjoy it a lot. I have 3 tupperdors (Rubbermaid Brilliance) that have served me well.
That being said, I am wondering if it might be worth it to invest money in a wood humidor that would last me a lifetime? Is there something I am missing out on by not having a wood humidor? I have seen it hinted at in this subreddit that, at a certain point, you need to "graduate" to a wooden humidor (and yes I have seen others vehemently opposed to this notion as well).
To be very frank, I feel like I might be in a different class than a lot of you posting here. I am a public school teacher, so I don't have tons of money to throw around on cigars. But that is kinda the point as well. If I am involved in this, then I want to make some very smart purchases that will be well worth it. Would a very well constructed, lifetime lasting humidor actually be worth it? I am happy with my rubbermaid brilliance tupperdor, but I am certain it will not be for a "lifetime."
Any thoughts would be appreciated, as well as any wooden humidor recommendations (if this is what you are suggesting).
I am not interested in "tupperdor for storage humidor for show" because I am not really interested in showing off cigars (and no shade to anyone who finds that interesting because I love looking at others humidors when they show them off to me).
Finally got around to trying the Olmec. I picked up a Claro and Maduro - I lit up the Claro today.
Main Notes:
Chocolate (fudge brownie)
Nuttiness (almond)
Coffee (medium roast)
Undertones:
Caramel
White pepper
This cigar has everything I want from a Maduro stick in terms of flavor without everything I dislike from a lot of Maduro (strong for no reason, overly peppery, off putting earthiness).
I had the chance to try the Padron PB97 at my local B&M where I picked these up. As much as I enjoyed it, I will say I enjoyed the Olmec more by a good margin.
Can’t wait to try the Maduro! (I still consider the Olmec Claro a Maduro in the grand scheme of things lol It’s a dark San Andres at the end of the day - the Olmec Maduro is actually also the same leaf)
Hey everyone, I finally took the plunge and bought my first cigar haul today, and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ve been getting into the hobby and wanted to start off with a solid mix to explore different flavors and profiles.
Would love to hear your thoughts—how did I do? Which of these do you think I’ll enjoy the most? Also, has anyone here tried the Altezas Reales 1871? Heard a lot of buzz/praise for it and couldn’t pass it up.
Looking forward to your insights—cheers!
Did you know that Holt’s Cigar Co. started as a small Philly cigar shop back in 1898, but it wasn’t until the Levin family (owners of furniture and mattress stores) took over in 1957. Robert Levin grew it, and in 1985, he launched Ashton Cigars, teaming up with Arturo Fuente.
By the early 2000s, he expanded into Nicaragua, reviving La Aroma de Cuba and creating San Cristobal, both made by My Father Cigars.
So, Holt’s Cigar Co. Owns: Ashton, San Cristobal, and La Aroma De Cuba.
If you know you know.
Aladino is a brand that mostly flies below the radar. Their limited edition stuff has always pleasantly delivered. The Sumatra was great, the Cameroon LE was great, I went through a box of each. When news broke of this release I pre ordered a box and now really kicking myself for letting them rest for so long because now they are out of stock everywhere. Being a one off release…well that is sad news because this cigar was a true 10 across the board. This is the first totally 100% Cameroon Puro, meaning binder, filler, and wrapper…grown in Honduras on the Eiroa farm.
If you are a fan of Cameroon, which I am, this one may make it to the top of your top 3…of course if you can source it. I am a long time smoker of Cameroon cigars and mostly lean towards Fuente stuff. I have about 25 Casa Fuentes (one of my all time favorites) as well as maybe 20 Don Carlos (Shark, Personal Reserve, and Annivesario) and I will say this one is in competition to top them. This box had 12 and now I have 11 which gives me FOMO hard.
Had anyone had the pleasure of smoking this stick?
Any Cameroon cigars I must try?
Thinking about picking up some sticks and smoking one there. I know you have to be a member or get a pass to go downstairs, but can you smoke upstairs without a charge?
Fellas(and ladies?), first post on here. So I know there’s only a few ways to properly light a cigar and the popular option is a torch.
So, personally, I think a significant number of torches look a little too aggressive and maybe a bit crude. No hate towards any behemoth torch enthusiasts. Instead, I opted to get a vintage-looking zippo and I bought the cheap Chinese torch insert that zippo makes for them. Love the aesthetic of it. However, that insert has proven to be inconsistent and will not work properly when it’s cold outside.
I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for something of a similar variety that is also reliable. Thanks in advance!
Anyone here in the Iowa City/Coralville area know spots with decent selections? Bonus points if I can find Leaf (Oscar Valladares) there
Edit because 3 people just sent me dms - I'm not looking for weed. I want cigars lol
I bought a five pack of these to give them a go after many recommendations from this sub. I have to say that even though I didn’t personally find anything extraordinary about the flavor, it’s a reasonably priced cigar with construction that’s certainly built to please. What a pleasure to smoke a cigar with a pleasing look, firm feel, perfect burn, no running or lighting issues and a more than pleasant enough mild to medium bodied flavor. Add a little Remi Martin 1738 cognac and it was indeed a very pleasant Saturday early evening smoke.
Awhile ago I had a bit of an accident where my humidity unit in my humidor leaked out and coated the bottom in distilled water. Since then I haven't picked up anything to store in it, but I would like to soon and have some cigars ready for spring. Because of this I wanted to see if I would need to re-season my humidor first and at what RH should I do so? I am probably going to try and season it with a boveda pack if possible since I don't want to risk water in it ever again and (if they work) I have some fresh 75% boveda packs from my hygrometer calibration. If it helps; the humidor itself is a small 50 cigar wood humidor with a glass top. Thanks for any help and tips you can provide.
I spent quite a bit on a few good sticks @ Holts and they couldn’t even add a boveda to the package. Sticks were squished together and dented.
I’m sure they’ll taste the same but it’s kind of annoying.
How long should I let these acclimate and rest before I smoke. I don’t want to take a risk with these babies.
Has anyone tried these? I can’t find much about them online. It’s such a cool concept for a cigar, so I ordered a box. Wondering if anyone here has any experience with them yet.
I kind of knew going into this one that it had to be an absolute killer for ne to find it worth smoking, because I'm generally just not a fan of huge cigars. This had a great draw, but maybe too great, because the 1st half was just super airy to me. Not much to note flavorwise, just very tame and one note...not bad at all, just bland. The smoke did improve in both draw and flavor for the 2nd half of it, but by that time I was already too tuned out. I just don't want to have to smoke something for well over an hour just to then start finding the flavor enjoyable.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad cigar...just one that's not to my liking. If I'm putting 2.5-3 hours into a smoke, I need more flavor from the get go, preferably with some twists along the way.
Decided to try my recently bought joya de Nicaragua clasico, these were a bit dry but very nice taste anyways, had a really strong cedar taste and was very mild, it burned hot tho, so it ended up a bit harsh
You get access to more exclusive deals on the discord if you level up in there, correct? How is that done exactly? Is posting photos and liking other posts enough, or do you need to have conversations?
It was a my father cigar and I smoked through the whole thing fine until I was at the nub and it hit me like a truck. Got sick and had to go outside. I’ve smoked a few different cigars before and never had this problem. Is the nub stronger or something? Not necessarily a nicotine newbie but damn this sucks. Sugar helped a little but I never want to do that again.
