How can I age my tabacco ?

Hello wise pipe smokers. I've bought a tin of MacBaren tobacco and I'm wondering how I can age my tobacco? Should I keep the tin sealed, open it or should I put the tobacco in a glass jar?

Thanks a lot :)

What am I doing wrong? The ember is only in the center of the bowl and tunnels straight down.

I’m using a Zippo pipe lighter, moving it all over the top of the bowl, and seem to get the whole top layer lit. But eventually the edges go out and the cherry ends up only being the center. So by the time I’m “done” with a bowl, there’s a ton of unsmoked leaf at the bottom and sides. How do I get the whole thing lit?

Mail Call

I picked up a bunch of new Peterson to try in the near future, and some Black House that came in a bundle with the Nightcap. I got nervous about Pipes & Cigars based on some recent posts here, but they came through and, for 37% off, I have 0 complaints. I also made a video, if anyone would care to join me. Please let me know if me linking them here is inappropriate, I just truly enjoy sharing my experience with y'all. Happy smokes :) https://youtube.com/@leafstem317?si=OePcsn5MPRsd21CJ

New Pipe Rack finally came in. (The mini-cob is unfortunately not useable; my step-son secretly bought it for me from a flea market while he was on a school field trip. 😂)

Popped the last of my Dunhill 965

Haven’t smoked this one in a while and since it was the first bowl of the last marked ‘Dunhill 965’ I have, I decided to do it in style. A ‘Lee Van Cleef’ replica of the Cinema Famous ‘For a Few Dollars More’ pipe. My only meerschaum and a great smoker.

Genuine question for a beginner

I love seeing the amount of cool pipes and assortment of different tobacco, however, I myself am a bit of a minimalist.

I like having just a few good quality things. I'm not a crazy collector.

I play guitar - I used to have like 10-15 guitars at one time and eventually dwindled down to 3 that I love.

Point: I want to try different blends but do I truly need a pipe for each flavor? Ultimately, I'd love to have one pipe for a traditional English blend and perhaps one pipe for a specific aromatic that I like.

Is it possible to just have 1 or 2 pipes and also be able to mix a handful of different tobacco, or will I ghost the pipes?

Won’t stay lit!

I’m sure this is a super common question, but I have read through everything I can, and have re-read and re-read again. I cannot get a pipe to stay lit for more than a few….drags? I’ve smoked about 20-30 bowls, and nothing is getting better.

I pack tight, I pack loose, I pack medium, matches, lighter, torch (I know, desperation), tobacco right out of the can, tobacco dried out for a week, windy day, calm day, sunny day, downpour. Nothing seems to make a difference. What am I doing wrong here? A normal bowl for me is 20+ relights.

Things I notice, is that I cannot get more than a couple strands of tobacco to light at a time, even when I puff away and hold the flame over the bowl and circle it. I can do this for 10 minutes and only get a couple strands to light. I cannot get the entire top layer to light up. Even though the air coming out of the stem is hot in my mouth, no smoke. What’s the deal? Thanks!

Every pipe you don't buy is 2lbs you could cellar

Added 1lb of Yorktown and 1.5lbs of PS402, so thought I'd pull out the cellar.

The PS400 and Yorktown are hands down favorite Va/Vapers. Really high hopes for the NM400. Hoping the topping burns off the PS402. Nice spread of Peterson from P&C sale recently. I'll add more Bayou Morning, as well as the C&D burley blends if I like them.

Anyone had harshness on the retrohale from Sutliff blends? Both the 515rc and Elizabethan sting my nostrils. I haven't had the 507 slices yet, so I'm hoping they're alright.

Guys who want to know about long-term storage.

This is 25 years stored and just opened. Tobacco properly stored can last a very very long time.

How bad are vulcanite stems?

I'm conflicted. I really like a specific Savinelli pipe, the 311 Roma - but it's a vulcanite stem.
I really like the pipe, but I don't love the idea of buying a stem that degrades with time and taints the flavor with sulfur. I've read a bunch of maintenance tips - but on the other hand acrylic needs no maintenance at all.

It'll be in rotation with one or two other pipes, so it's probably going to see a lot of use.
I can just settle for one that I like slightly less, but has an acrylic pipe. Help me out here.

Why oh why Savinelli, don't you make the 311 in Roma Lucite?

Edit:

Thanks everyone, you guys made me go ahead and order it :)
Added a can of "stem polish" too for good measure. Thanks a lot.

Newbie Help!!

I’ve been a regular cigar smoker for the past 6 months and loved the intensity of the flavours.

I seem to think of it as coffee and pipe as tea knowjng that it is much lighter.

Am i only supposed to taste pipe blend through a retrohale or it is possible to taste it in the mouth.

I bought three pipe tobaccos and I am able to taste it in the retro but my mouth tasted the same for all three.

I have Billy Bud, Autumn evening and Bayou Morning.

How common were pipe rolls?

Just wondering how common these were back in the day or are they something that's been popularised more recently because of lotr. Did old timers just keep their pipe in a jacket pocket and their tobacco in a tin or were pipe rolls containing everything common place?

What to open next?

Medium experience piper. I try not to have too many tobaccos jarred at the same time…15-20 at once. Couple aros (least favorite), few English, few VaPers, then an assortment of randoms. As I finish a jar of one type, I open another that is in the same category. I am about done with my Maltese Falcon jar, which I’d rate an 8 or 9 out of 10…I love it. Of the following, which should I open next: White Knight, Margate, Pembroke, Balkan Sobranie, Star of the East Flake. I have never tasted any of those, and only have one tin of each. Some may not be available for quite a while. My favorite so far is Plum Pudding Bourbon Barrel (have one open already). Looking for opinions.

Pipes & Cigars subscription billing???

Anyone order from pipesandcigars.com recently? I ordered on 4/20, then on 4/27 and again on 5/7 I was billed $17.97 for something called MEM-PCLOYAL-1000. I do not recall there being any type of subscription at checkout, and there wasn't anything related to that on my email receipt on my order. I can't find any kind of subscription, or loyalty program on the website either. Has this happened to anyone else?
