Love all three of these. One of my local stores that is usually pretty light on jazz bought a great collection. Was a nice surprise and I’ll be going back soon…
I need Joe Henderson - State of the Tenor Vol. 2. You can still buy brand new copies of Vol 1 but Vol 2 seems long out of print.
Do I shell out on eBay or Discogs or wait?
This is an awesome album. I’ve avoided getting the grey market versions, and finally found this blue note. It’s fantastic until the last track- Lonely Woman.
The piano notes in several spots on that track are distorted pretty badly, as if it was recorded too loud for the tape. It’s frustrating since it’s such a great track.
Given the rest of the album is beautiful, I’m wondering if this is an issue with this particular record, or just this pressing, or if it’s something on all versions because it’s on the master. Curious if anyone else found a similar issue?
Oh and I’m Using an Acoustic Solid Round table with an EAT MC cart - so it’s not my equipment.
Thanks
Finally got an early pressing of this, since every repress seems to be both mediocre and overpriced (I can live with one but not both). This is a South African pressing from the original tapes, best I can tell, or at least very early generation copies.
The cover is super cheap and pretty beat up, but on the plus side, they are using leftover orange and black labels on the record (by the time they pressed this in the US they were onto cheaper vinyl and uglier labels.)
Most important: it sounds fantastic. :-)
