Against my better judgement, I bought this beautiful off-brand phonograph (possibly Victrola parts under the hood??) for $125 called Master of Music by Western Factories Corp. Chicago. Not a bad buy in my opinion. Beautiful condition. Reproducer doesn’t have any serious cracks in the rubber. Mica looks good. Some areas need to be touched up but it looks and plays great.
Hello everyone. I am trying to find a new mounting bracket for this VV 4-3. They aren't easy to come by for this particular model. Are there any other models that might work instead? I thought maybe the VV 2-60?
This is an item at an estate sale happening by me this weekend. They are calling it a "travel gramophone".
Does a phonograph horn have more or less value, than an original, with a unique vintage paint job like this? Has anyone seen any horns ever painted like this? There’s definitely age with cracks on the paint, but you can see every stroke.
Hey all. I am currently in the process of bidding on an Edison Home Phonograph. I assume this is a less-desirable early version that only plays 2 minute songs because the reproducer looks like it says "C". Does anyone know what specific model this phonograph is? D maybe? And I can't tell if it has proper gearing to play 4 minute records with a different reproducer attached. It doesn't look like it, but I figured I'd ask anyway. I know you can get conversion kits for stuff like this.
Anybody got a recording head for an Edison standard they’d be willing to sell? I can’t seem to find one around. Thanks!
Hi!
I recently purchased a beautiful 1918 upright Brunswick. It has a 3 way head for Edison diamond, Victor style, and Pathé needles.
The player has been serviced in the last ~8 years by a technician and is in great working order. However, said technician has passed and I need some advice on maintenance since I’ve gotten conflicting information.
Here are my questions, and thank you in advance for your patience and information you may provide!
1: I can’t find info on how to best oil the internals that are under the turntable. There are three holes labeled “oil,” so I know where to put them, but one person advised me use 3-in-1 multipurpose household oil (the stuff at Lowe’s in a small metal tin) and do so once every 1-2 months. The other person (a seasoned vendor) recommended 1-2 drops of motor oil once a year. He said older oils are too thin, but the machine is designed for that so I don’t know what to use now.
Everything we’ve read says “depending on use” — so for reference, we listen to 5-10 records at a time, maybe once every ten days.
2: I can’t find reliable data on what wood the cabinet is made of. It appears solid, not a veneer, so I want to care for it appropriately.
Also, I’m in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. If anyone knows of technicians they recommend here I would appreciate the referral!
I’ve got lots of spare needles and am aware of the acoustic versus electric record issue for 78 records. I just want to check in and ask about how best to keep this beauty in fine working order.
Thank you!
This was so disheartening. Everything was just thrown haphazardly into the case with a little bit of paper and like 3 sheets of bubble wrap in the box. Zero packing peanuts. Nothing wrapped up individually or separately. Such a shame. Now I have to fight to get a full refund from eBay.
Hello everyone,
Is there any disk manufacturer left who sells them? Especially in Europe?
Also if you know any place that sells them second hand I would be interested…
Thank you!
Where would I find a new main spring for my silvertone portable? (It's from 1928 if this helps) Thx
Hi everyone, I just bought a Pooley upright phonograph at an estate sale (no photos- going to pick it up tomorrow). It has the original turn table (no velvet) but it's not attached, when you open the top it's empty except for the needle arm and the horn fixture inside. The guy said something about gears? I have no idea but it seemed like a relatively simple fix. I've seen people restore these before so I know it can be done I'm just not sure how much I'll have to invest in parts. Is this like a mechanism I can buy pre assembled and just slap in? I feel like I got a great deal as it's a beautiful intricate cabinet, the cabinet alone was worth it, I just really hope I can get it working. The modern tables I was looking at were all a couple hundred at least so if I can restore this thing for under $100 I'll be very happy. I believe it's acoustic btw but I'm not entirely sure, not sure if that matters.
i would like to know where to buy a working wax cylinder phonograph for a low price
I finally got my first gramophone, his master's voice 102. Starting with a Finnish version of the classic Mambo Italiano by our legendary singer Olavi Virta.
My restored Orthophonic reproducer sounds great! It was my first Orthophonic rebuild and it was certainly a challenge. I never have had to solder anything before so I had to learn how. It is incredibly loud in my VV 2-55 and has great response. It was missing a few screws when I first got It so I had my local clock repair shop make them for me.
Need to replace the plastic or bacolite fitting in the neck that connects the needle assembly to the neck.
Any thoughts?
Just picked up this unit and am very happy with it but I don't know what "it" is! Does anyone know what model it is? TIA
